has anybody else played season mode and sometimes the umpire for the coin toss looks at the other team even if you win the toss like if i was hawthorn playing geelong and i won the toss the umpire would look at gellong instead of looking at the winning team of the toss

Yes I have noticed that.

But one thing I do chuckle at is when you look at the umpire at the coin toss, pay attention to the shoes they are wearing.
It’s like they are ready to shoot off to a quick dinner date afterwards as they appear to be shiny formal shoes instead of footy boots

yeah i sometimes see them weaing formal boots and sometimes wearing footy boots

Do we know if there’s another game coming out next year? With how big of a jump afl 26 was compared to the first one I can’t wait to see how good the next game could be

Who knows honestly. Going by history it will be next year but they may hold off for a year to align it with the new Tassie team in 2028

What changes/improvements do we think we’ll see to gameplay? I’d love to see more tactics, smarter ai running patterns and give it a 2k fifa feel to it by having more cut scenes and cinematics during the game to give it a broadcast feel. No reason why after every whistle they can quickly show something like they do after a goal and show off the good graphics. And injury lists for the entire league in management mode so you can have a rough idea what side your opponent is going to put out there. Other then that I think the game is in a great place

I really hope they do more cutscenes like the teams running out in ‘special’ games. Shows off the graphics heaps better

So many options for cut scenes during game after ball ups, boundary throw ins, free kicks, behinds, for stoppages you could show rucks running to position or players and also show there stats during this time if there going good. After free kicks could show players arguing or pushing and shoving or angry. Can show players getting rub downs on the bench or rotations happening. If a player is injured show them with the vest on in the back row then the commentator could talk about it. Would love to see when pressing circle for a set shot have a cut scene of the player walking back to position with players getting around him or getting around the person that kicked it to him. Would just make a huge difference to give it a broadcast feel. That’s what separates 2k also celebrations and cinematics could go for longer after a goal I feel. @JNT_BA are all these things a possibility for the next game?

In the future, BigAnt might save money by using integrated generative AI for cutscenes. The scenes would constantly evolve in real-time, meaning every single playthrough is completely unique.

Yeah more variations of cutscenes too I reckon… so not just new ones (like bench/set shot like you mentioned) but different variations of each of those, and camera angles of them, so that there’s feels a lot more overall.

Half time, quarter time cutscenes currently do this… so yeah… more more more!

But my #1 hope is to have Quick Menus (Interchange and Tactics) stay up through cutscenes and replays… so I still do them on the fly and don’t need to pause the game to get them done.

What’s going on lads, it’s been a hot minute!

I honestly think BA should start looking at integrating AI more deeply into their own engine. Not replacing the devs, but using it to take care of a lot of the repetitive testing, tweaking and manual labour that takes up so much development time.

Imagine commentary that actually adapts to what’s happening rather than feeling heavily scripted, players that learn tendencies and adapt to your play style throughout a game or even across a season, and smarter AI behaviours that evolve as you play.

Feels like that’s the direction sports games should be heading, and I reckon BA could get ahead of the curve if they haven’t started implementing this already.

Some new legends this season!

Ooooft new season of pro team is insane! Crazy amount of new legends in level progress and objectives + the legacy packs are insane!

I really hope they do release a game next year. These pro team cards are just insane at this point lmao

OMG yes! Finally Carey and Archer. Hopefully Hird, Gaz Jnr and Gaz Snr are somewhere in the pipeline. Legacy is a great name for a series given other categories have played in this space a little.

This has a given me an idea for another type of season - famous premiership sides. The level progression could be stacked with cards - players, the guernsey of that year, a coach skin. The seasons would create themselves.

Speaking of which, I enjoyed this most recent one. Not having to kick 800+ goals with a single player is a huge improvement and the cult heroes idea grew on me after a while.

In terms of quirky things I’m noticing, it’s a shame the game doesn’t recognize a two grab marks and I’m getting some loooooooong ‘please wait downloading data’ screens. Once I even copped over a minute applying a contract to a player - ‘please wait get a coffee call mum’ - anyone having the same experience on PS5?

Yeah the long loading screen happens to me all the time.
PS5 too.
I imagine it’s some failed network call, with a 60sec timeout. I’ve sent it to the support team.

Is there a new AFL game in the works? @JNT_BA

If it was coming out tomorrow the first we would know of it is a mention on the JB website.

Inclusion of legends is great, and I love how the current pack is completely focused on them. I might even be able to create Legends Teams for each team depending on how many we get.

But I have noticed a few bugs with them at least on PS5. I noticed that Ross Lyon, Nick Del Santo and Josh Carr don’t have their face scans and instead just have the bald default model instead.

I’ll post some screenshots soon and send it into the bug report team as well.

EDIT: Here are the screenshots.
