Early Access 4 (EA4) Interim Update 3

Hi BA,

Very much been enjoying the game in it’s latest rendition. Some feedback I’ve compiled about some ideas I’ve had for the game and a bug or 2 I’ve noticed.

BUGS

  • Don’t let me select players who are busy getting up until they’re basically up. I noticed when cycling through players in open play whilst playing defense. It lets me cycle through players who have just made a tackle and are in the process of getting up or have just been bumped-off. Feels slightly redundant since they can’t move till they’re back up and their animation has finished. Certainly not helpful when I’m trying to manouver other players into scraambling back to cover a break from the AI having just palmed me off!

I’ve also noticed the referee getting in the way a little. Some might consider this a legitimate strategy (similar to real-life). Others could find it annoying. I feel like having collision-detection on the ref could be a relatively simple gameplay setting that could be switched off. If you’re using ECS, I imagine their is a collision property.

IDEAS
Maybe you have something in the works already but I have some ideas for some mechanics.

  • PRESSURE: I’d love a pressure mechanic which basically provideds extra opportunity for defending players to make mistakes (high/missed tackle, overcommitting in the ruck, etc.) when defending on their 5 metre line. This could increase to a certain amount, the longer time is spent in this area.
  • MOMENTUM: Players receive a temporary performance boost from scoring/making a good tackle. This could stack/be extended depending on good things happening in a row. At the same time, I think it should be brittle. The opposition should be able to build their own momentum.

For both of the above ideas, I like the idea of using commentary as an organic way of letting the player know when momentum or pressure is on their side, or vice-versa. rather than some distracting hud element. Little things like "it seems like momentum has swung the other way! " or “looks like the pressure is beginning to build”.

I won’t mention the game crashes, I think they’ve been well documented so will leave it there.

Much appreciated, keep up the hard work!

I have never seen a potato write this much sense before. Let alone an Indie one.

Two really good ideas, would love to see those both in game. I like the organic way of them being implemented as well. Anything to avoid the game screen looking like a Pinball machine at the end

That’s a great idea.

The point about commentary being used is a good one too. Like the commentator could say “receives the pass” when a player receives a pass

Also would like to jump in and say this is a great idea :raised_hands::raised_hands:

Not sure if some stuff has been updated in the last 48 hours, but I cannot get passed the 10 minute marker in any match anymore without it crashing, no obvious single thing, crashes happening in rucks, when passing, when kicking, when intercepting. All different teams and stadiums.

Did spot a new bug in 1 game though, player missed the pass and threw the ball in to touch, but I was able to run in to touch and collect the ball and continue to play, but could only run forwards so kicked the ball to the other side of the field, and lineout got awarded after the kick not from the pass.
linout glitch

Also something ive not noticed before. AI missed a conversion, and the following cinematic shows the referee doing an “offside penalty” animation. Would be nice if rather than focussing on the ref it could focus on the touch judges waving for a missed kick with their flags behind the posts or something, as they are typically the main signal for a successful kick or not, and the referee simply blowing the whistle whistle in the background.

I hope I’m wrong; but with everything I’ve watched, read, and played, this game still feels very raw. I feel like it needs at least six more months of hard development work. Truth be told, it may hurt, but this is far from a fun game. :sleepy:

Something to pass on to the photogrammetry/player teams having seen more gameplay - there are still issues with Sale Sharks. Ben Curry’s hair is missing and the likenesses for Luke James (13) and Rouban Birch (8) aren’t 100% there yet.

I would also tag onto this that Tom Wright for the Wallabies has a skin tone that is too dark at the moment compared to his real life counterpart.

Only seems to be his head and neck. Arms and legs maybe too light. Not sure if an unfinished version.

Wouldve been nice to bé able to play the touch fast when the défense are not that close. WE Can only play the regular one for the moment.

Hi guys got to say feel happier after seeing the new major update , big thumbs up to big ant studios ot is getting a lot better

Just some thoughts maybe is the lineouts maybe if we can choose maul or pass but still select where tou wanna throw it back front or middle

And is there any difference in kicking for goal stance ? Between different players not sure jist asking have not seen yet any

Also can we just get the right implementation on the offside rule when you kick anyone in front of the kicker is offside and must be overtaken by the kicker or a player who was behind the kicker sorry if I miss spell I am not really english

And can we maybe get a bit better graphics fan wise maybe a cutscene if you score a try wherw they celebrate and if you score the match winning points when time is over with a kick or a try the fans lose their heada and go wild ?

But just wanna say again big thumbs up to big ant they really are working hard to give us a decent game thanks guys

Surely this build is broken. Having come on leaps and bound in the last update this update is just dreadful.

The UI is awful and goes against the rest of the minimal aesthetic the game has going. It honestly feels like the offside and ruck indicators were done by an intern. Also the rucks are still a boring mess, is it ever going to change ?

Lineouts are broken. How did that get passed QA when the notes say mauls are fixed???

Player movement feels off and passes are back to being a bit horrid.

Fast scans for URC aren’t even in and the one showcase with RG is broken, it’s a low poly mess.

Guys honestly. Would of been better off waiting a week.

Please let us disable this new UI it is honestly the worst thing I’ve ever seen in a rugby game.

i really like the direction this is going in…

please please please give us the option to disable the offside line though!
Graphically, this game is tremendous
The gameplay is a lot better, and the franticness of the game seems to be implemneted alot better…the AI still needs to be a bit more ruthess on harder levels though as i am still scoring too easily
No more crashes at the start of the game or AI just staring at the ruck anymore…the game does still crash however stability has been massively improved

Overally really happy and impressed with this update…big thanks to the developer team
