Rugby 25 Megathread

Feeling the disappointment as well. This picture just sums up the attacking shape to me. Ruck in the centre of the field. In 1/3/3/1 so expect to see 1 forward and 1 back on the blindside and then a pod of three (I overcommitted to the ruck so only 2 forwards) with the 10 behind the pod and then at least 4 back line players outside him. Instead I’ve got my 14 on the left wing, the 11 by the ruck, the 12 and 13 standing in useless positions behind the ruck and my 10 on the far right wing.

@JNT_BA we really need proper rugby union attacking shape like below. It’s also annoying to see that things like penalties for knock ons are still occurring.

Decided to give it a go. Firstly, for the first time in a long time, I lost! It was nice to actually feel challenged playing the game - A POSITIVE.

Unfortunately, the positives ended there. Long bullet passes. Hooker taking restarts. Random cut scenes. TMO that pans away from the gameplay. New kicking mechanism meant I missed every kick. Outside half still running onto passes when in the pocket meaning it’s impossible to get kicks away.

I think I’m officially done with this game.

Does anyone know how to run directly forward with the scrum half from a ruck please? No idea how to do it. Nice1 cheers

These update descriptions are still so vague! What are the real changes made to the game?

I have just received delivery of an enormous fried chicken burger, chips, drink, and 4 hot wings. Scran the food down whilst the update downloads, then on to some nonsense

beware of indigestion

Severe indigestion with symptoms similar to a heart attack is probably preferable to 20 mins of rugby 25

So.

Lines.

Games still dreadful as expected though ive not played in 3 months so it felt a little bertter

But seriously though, wheres the structure, and wheres the lines ?

There seems to be a little more movement when the ball is passed out of the ruck which was a minor positive ive always hate how static attacking players are except for the player recieving the pass. Attacking players seemed to line up a little more sensibly.

Where are the lines ? Where are the pods ? Where is the structure ? Why are we 18 months post release of ea1 with a product that doesnt resemble rugby union ?

@JNT_BA i know you tempered our expectations and i know you said theres more to come, but i expected some lines from a patch nicknamed ‘lines’ and some actual structure

Quand actual lines

Quand actual structure

Quand pods

Quand cricket 26

It has probably never been the priority project I guess. And with RL26, it will probably never be it.

Here we go for 18 more Months

Lol I love the fact that this game make us speak frenglish

Getting into the sport and had PS credit so bought this game and looking for some help I thought I’d turn to the forum.

FWIW; I know very little about rugby as it stands and am using the game as a means of learning a bit more but it would now appear it’s maybe not a true reflection.

Regardless, for whatever the game is, this guy who has very little idea is having a bit of fun - probably until I actually learn how it should be.

Have a feeling I maybe should’ve bought RL26 instead but as a Scotsman, picking the code most common in my country made some sense to me.

Hoping to see the game take some big strides over next few months and by sounds of it, they’re very much needed.

My only bugbear is why do some teams names come up in the pre-match lineup graphic but then disappear when game starts? Usually Pro14 teams?

@JNT_BA, on your internal version, is there a big difference between 1-3-3-1, 4-4 and 4-2-4 at the moment?

The decision to expand or not these options is linked to what ? Ross’s decision ?

Just experienced my first ever knock-on advantage since buying the game. No advantage after a couple of phases, in my own half. Ref blows… penalty kick.

Can’t even find this stuff funny anymore. Except for the original conversion kicks now being called ‘classic’.

So having played a few games today this is where things stand for me. I’ll kick it off by saying that I’ve had enough of all these false promises. I want Ross to come out and have an honest conversation about this game. We need to understand fully what the future looks like. We are 14 months since early access and 6 months since release and yet we still don’t have a game that feels like Rugby Union. For me this is what still feels massively off or missing from the game:

  • Player skills have no relevancy to the game
  • no matter what difficulty you put the game on the AI (especially if the opponent is a higher rating than you) are able to break practically every first tackle and offload without any trouble. This just doesn’t happen in real life.
  • Rules have still not been properly implemented. Knock ons should not result in a penalty, kick chasers in front of the kicker shouldn’t be allowed to run freely and tackle the player catching
  • Attacking shape is still so messy and not how players set up in union. A game can break down at times but otherwise it is very structured. Backline players have fairly specific positions on the field and there needs to be proper forward pods off rucks/the number 10 with various running lines to support and backline moves when it is a line out or scrum.
  • Defensive lines also don’t look realistic. Currently the defence doesn’t man make, it doesn’t drift towards the touch line to force the opposition wide, it leaves massive gaps as players randomly move toward or away from the ball carrier and doesn’t set up in basic formations like a real team would.
  • Simply things that have been discussed multiple times or since the last update have still not been implemented. Things like the option to score a try from a contested catch, making the catch button the same whether it’s a contested catch scenario or uncontested catch scenario (square on PS5 and X on Xbox), being able to select a player when the ball has bounced on the ground (either from a bad pass or from a tap back on a contested catch) and marks in the 22 being a quick kick as it was when it was first implemented instead of a complete stop in play.
  • Line outs still feeling too basic and obvious. When the AI has the throw in you just have to wait to see where the scrum half moves too and select the appropriate jumper. The lack of tap/steal that was in an earlier version.
  • Scrums still feeling like a complete pot luck. You can time the button inputs perfectly and still collapse the scrum. There also doesn’t seem to be the option to pass to your backline from the scrum, only the option to pick with the number 8.
  • Rucks still make no sense as to what is happening. You still get moments where you can lose a ruck even if you massively outnumber the opposition

I’m sure the list above is only a fraction of the issues and if anyone has anything else to add let me know and I’ll add it so it’s one complete post. At this point I don’t really know what else to say. We have given so much feedback but it doesn’t feel like it is going anywhere. I really call on Ross to come out and chat to us as I feel sorry for Jordan having to bear the brunt of so much frustration from gamers who just want a good and enjoyable rugby union game.

Okay, I’ve just played a couple of games now and I can see how those who are still very unhappy have those opinions and I can see how those who are a little more pleased have those opinions as well.

First the good:

Punt kicking is significantly better (either version skill based or “traditional”). There is a point to clearance kicks now, they have some range and are smoother to do!

Support play is significantly better (but needs a little work yet). I just scored a try with a draw and pass on the fullback!

The bump-off works as easily as the fend, but is sllightly less over powered!

The new goal kicking system looks good. (Looks good, but I’m yet to actually get one over from 7 kicks!

Now the bad:

Knock-on penalties! How hard would it be to change that.

The pods are not setup in any useful formations. You don’t get the feeling they can be used for phase play to advance meters down the field.

The frame-rate appears to drop regularly.

There are several glitches that have crept in.

I think people are had it with scrums. I think most of us would like to hear that there will be a re-vamp of them at some stage in the future.

It appears that the “5 man in a ruck” experiment is costing the ability to set up proper pods. 3 man is probably best, but could 4 be a compromise (1st man in over the ball, two slightly to one side of him pushing the opposition off the ball and one at the back?). In any case, I think 5 men in is just too many for appropriate forward structures to work.

The conversion kicks are great in method, but seem to go off the side of the boot with even medium power despite aiming right at the sticks.

The punt kicking button seems to not work if you start pushing it as the ball is on the way to your intended kicker, so even when it arrives you sometimes have to push it a second time.

There is some promise in this patch, you can see the work is being obviously done, but several things feel incomplete at this stage.

Already changed will be going out today.

I still think support players are to deep when attacking. Still have to pass 5m behind to next player. Would love my wing to be 1m behind at most.
