Okay, I’ve just played a couple of games now and I can see how those who are still very unhappy have those opinions and I can see how those who are a little more pleased have those opinions as well.
First the good:
Punt kicking is significantly better (either version skill based or “traditional”). There is a point to clearance kicks now, they have some range and are smoother to do!
Support play is significantly better (but needs a little work yet). I just scored a try with a draw and pass on the fullback!
The bump-off works as easily as the fend, but is sllightly less over powered!
The new goal kicking system looks good. (Looks good, but I’m yet to actually get one over from 7 kicks!
Now the bad:
Knock-on penalties! How hard would it be to change that.
The pods are not setup in any useful formations. You don’t get the feeling they can be used for phase play to advance meters down the field.
The frame-rate appears to drop regularly.
There are several glitches that have crept in.
I think people are had it with scrums. I think most of us would like to hear that there will be a re-vamp of them at some stage in the future.
It appears that the “5 man in a ruck” experiment is costing the ability to set up proper pods. 3 man is probably best, but could 4 be a compromise (1st man in over the ball, two slightly to one side of him pushing the opposition off the ball and one at the back?). In any case, I think 5 men in is just too many for appropriate forward structures to work.
The conversion kicks are great in method, but seem to go off the side of the boot with even medium power despite aiming right at the sticks.
The punt kicking button seems to not work if you start pushing it as the ball is on the way to your intended kicker, so even when it arrives you sometimes have to push it a second time.
There is some promise in this patch, you can see the work is being obviously done, but several things feel incomplete at this stage.
