Rugby 25 Megathread

I really hope that we see pods and better attacking structure with proper running lines off the pods. My concern is that there was an attempt at this in EA2 however it was so ineffective that you never made any ground. One of my biggest annoyances with the game is the lack of forward momentum. Forwards especially should be able to use their strength and leg power to drive through tackles and make ground. The pods and attacking structure is going to be so ineffective if there’s no momentum in tackles and AI defences don’t make mistakes when outnumbered.

Agree, Again I think they tried to make this a thing with the “Drive tackle” they said they added but no one understood how to use. I can tell you what though, in RL26 it is the single best mechanism for realism in the contact area. Dynamic 1, 2 and even 3 man tackles with the ability to go forwards, sideways or backwards depending on who is dominant. THAT should be exactly how the close in forward game is played in Rugby25 and they should be able to use that exact same methodology in R25 as in RL26, they even have an animation already for the tacklers rolling off and away from the tackle.

They then have a hold down tackler motion after the tackle is completed that could be perfectly adapted to slowing the ball down and penalties for not releasing before attempting a steal in the tackle etc.

Same with the contested kicks, same with the knock ons and advantages, same with the collisions in the goal area while going over, same with the held up or fighting to get the ball down, same with the game recognising where the ball is in relation to the pitch and being grounded. I could go on lol.

They have the recipe for success already there, they just need to use it.

I think the only hope this rugby game has is some sort of No Man’s Sky situation where they continue to patch it for 5-10 years.

If so, I’m sure it’ll follow the current pattern of: (using punt kicking as an example)…

Hear about issues
Ignore for 4 patches
Accumulate more complaints
Have first go at patching it but obsess about something not complained about much (like the arc)
Introduce other issues like laggy jankiness
Fix laggy jankiness
Wonder why people still want it fixed
Ignore for next four patches
Accumulate yet more complaints
Have next go. This time focus on speed & control of reticle or how it works for side-cam.
Introduce more jankiness, maybe even a glitch or two
Next patch fix that again
Introduce less frequent patching to “get things done”
Accumulate your third lot of complaints about distance
Receive several comments that the League game has better down field range.
Go silent and/or busy. Appear to ignore at any rate
Laugh with Valhalla or Bapean.
Introduce less frequent patching to “get things done”.
Eventually hope a random bug gets introduced that somehow stops the flyhalf moving forward and also extends kicking range.
Pat yourself on the back.

After re-reading this, I realize I’ve been too hard on Hello Games with No Man’s Sky. They inched forward, fairly slowly, but most times forward.

Big Ant have been amazing with Rugby League, but the Rugby team have gone backwards almost as many times as they’ve moved forward.

I think you are underestimating the value of this in regards to the quality of production tbh. Memes are life.

Who?

Sadly agree. Which is ridiculous, because I think if they had made rugby as well as league, they would have done as well as RL26 has.

@Valhalla_Vagabond on the forward momentum I can see what you mean about RL26, it is miles better than R25 and the momentum in tackles does seem to either go forward, backwards or sideways, which is great. However if they do bring this into R25 I’d want to see new animations with the ball carrier going into contact lower. The players in the contact area in RL26 always seem to be very upright. (Never played Rugby League in real life and only just started watching a few clips so don’t know if this is how it’s meant to be). What I’d like to see is a new animation where you press and hold L2 and the ball carrier has a short burst of acceleration and goes lower with the shoulder to drive through the tackle. As for the tackle area agree I’d like to see the defenders able to slow down play by holding down the player/not rolling immediately. In the same way I’d like to see them change the way the holding on works. It’s so backwards that currently you get tackled, place the ball and release and then have the option to hold on. Looks really odd seeing the ball get pulled back into the ruck. IMO it should be get tackled, roll and then press a button to release the ball. Release the ball before your support arrives easy turnover, hold on too long and the opponent can jackal and win a penalty. Time it right with your support and you get quick ball.

Yeah would have those mechanics in as is right now to get the playability to be honest. The animations can be changed out for others as the game goes on as we have already seen from EA1.

The reason we don’t have most of the good stuff is because there were cries about reused animations and they didn’t want those in there at all. Jokes on who now  Unplayable25.

But I get what you mean, in the end with the polished and finished game, animations that better reflect union contact would be better. I agree.

@Valhalla_Vagabond oh yeah if it means getting better momentum than what we have now then absolutely get it in. You do get players going into contact upright in union as well. Those RL26 animations would actually lend themselves nicely to held up tackle.

Yeah, nothing wrong with that at all. Sometimes the only thing that lifts the mood in this thread.

Hello Games developed a game called No Man’s Sky. It was ridiculously flawed and lacking in content on release and gradually has been worked on and improved with relatively constant patching for 9 years since the 2016 release. It’s a prime example of a developer continuing on until they’ve actually fixed their game, no matter how long it takes.

Also makes it a solid comparison to what we’re going through with this Rugby release.

Maybe Big Ant doesn’t think so though. Maybe “kinda functional” is enough with this game and Rugby League deserves updates that actually do what they say they’ll do.

The difference is so night and day that even that isn’t a strong enough comparison.

Was my League money better than my Union money when I bought these somehow?

@JNT_BA seeing as we are rapidly approaching the release of lines

Can we have some more info on lines.

What can we expect to see implemented with lines ?

Will there be lines ?

Just the simple detail for the ball rotating into the opposite direction after a spin pass (not remember sure yet from wich side) is wrong in both Rugby25 and RL26 is raising me a lot of question marks :thinking::thinking:!
But at least the rotation for the basic spin pass in 50% correct!

Huge fat slugs. Rack em up BA
