Go through the tutorials, about 50% will apply. Don’t send 3 into the ruck every time on defense. And on offense if AI does not commit many to the ruck you can do somewhat
of a quick ball, by just adding 1 player to the ruck.
xbox-s version 2491 as far as Rucks go was playing fairly good. Played 15 minute halves was able to get maybe 4-5 turnovers at the ruck per half with Argentina, the AI as Tonga got about 2-3 per half at the ruck. It was Argentina vs Tonga the amount felt realistic. I know the passing particularly the non existent passing of the AI is a problem, the single specialty move for offense is also annoying, its like it is a 1 trick pony, but I will allow other players address those, my favorite part of Rugby, rucking is where I will maintain my focus. Have tested so many systems from Lomu Rugby back in the day, to every Rugby game released since, on various platforms. And I do deep dives into the systems. I play sometimes just to analyze the rucking system.
Right now what is hindering a good rucking system is lack of animations. It’s the same bulldozing/clear-out animation when you are overwhelming your opponent with binding 3 to AI 2 for the pushover, same animation as quickly isolating the player and stealing with the player that is supporting the tackle, the one player will steal at the ruck and same bulldozen/clear-out animation will trigger sometimes having 1 defensive rucking player clear-out 3 offensive rucking players, (does not look good) the out come is good because you gain possession, but the 1 defensive player should not flaten 3 offensive players, the animation should be the defensive player just steals the ball without clearing out 2-3 offensive players. This needs to be fix, to feel like realistic rucking, Again, the outcomes are realistic (the steal), but the animation is not the correct one (1 player clearing out 2-3 players). This animation creates another problem, the 1 player clears out 3 offensive rucking players, and then the team that got the 3 rucking players flattened is left with no one to defend in the middle, so it turns the rucking player into a super human, 3 defensive players should not get flattened. To also help counter this part of play the Offensive player should be able to hold on to wait for ruck support with risk of being penalized. So, the outcome of the rucks are getting considerably better, but the correct animations are not there. I have yet to figure out what Y is useful for in game Rucking, the intentions are good, stay on your feet and try for the steal , but it never works and the animation is to slow for it, tackling player should be able to get back on his feet or remain on his feet depending on the type of tackle and attempt the Jackle/steal, this is available in the tutorial but not available in game. Again, this three-button system could work very well just has to be implemented correctly. Look forward to the improvements.
And please, add the ability to add up to 5 in the ruck for those odd Rucking stalemate battles. Being able to add up to 5 in a ruck expands the game, so much. When rucking is done correct, you feel the same excitement for the ruck turnover as you do when scoring a try. Sometimes depending on the situation in real Rugby the celebration for a ruck forced turnover is as big as scoring a try. And this is why it is so important to get the rucks right.
