Rugby 25 Megathread

GotBy

Something for sure has been changed.
Played two matches; both with equal overall teams.

AI seems to be again as it was last week… boring, can’t take any gap, no real intelligent movement…

Please this is the core of the game, if this doesn’t work basically the game has nothing…

Hi everyone! I see on videos on YouTube of people playing the game, and when attacking they all have the drop pocket option marked as “pressing down”. On my ps4 It IS not the same, appears both left and right marked, but none of them does the kicker preparation. Why?

You have to hold it down

Gameplay wise see what can be done but I did like it prior to last patch to summarise, if we get sliders that would be nice to just help all kinds players. I think the easier difficulties should be easy and then make normal and hard tough

Easy is moving back to hard difficulty it might seem like you need to work on AI defence but remember it is also easy level for players who find the game tough and you can make it too tough I was struggling last night on easy. Prior to yesterday I was having good games on easy, close games .

With academy I think a few changes would be great

Big one is being able to add and remove players from licensed squads that would be nice. Lot players want that one

Personally I’d love to see one more referee or two added in and selectable before games and a trophy option and cutscene at end of custom competition just wrap that up

Being able to select a host team for custom competition would be great and having knockout only for 16, 8 and 4 teams as options would really be excellent

I’m happy with creation options I’d keep those as they are you guys have done great with player and team creator it is simple to use and deep at same time. Stadium creator the same yes. It’s really just custom competition which needs a few final tweaks.

I only bought this game because they had the license to Argentina, so thank you for that.

Other than that though this game is not complete and crazy that they released it. I just played one game that had two balls rocket straight up in the air and a line out call even when the opposition had the ball in the middle of the field.

The only other Big Ant game I bought was AFL 23 and that was a mess too. Definitely not buying their games anymore until they find a way to sell a completed game.

Weird, will have to test new patch, but the last patch for some reason the AI played better on Easy then Hardest , not easiest but easy. Just felt better overall. But still not threat of losing on even teams.

Great to see player attributes such as speed with affect line break ability. Would also like to see options to select attacking shapes and depths/widths and defensive lines,ie:

Attack: Foe example, sure you guys will think better options.
Shape 1: Rolling forwards (compressed to build momentum to have available players nearby to join ruck).
Shape 2: Sweep Play (fullback links with outside backs)
Shape 3: Sweep Play with inside /short ball/ kick to winger/ grubber through for runner options by selecting corresponding button symbol.
4. Pass to kicker(field goal, general play kick)

Defensive Line Select:

  1. Wide
  2. Compressed with sliding
  3. Rushing Up
  4. Outside In
  5. Winger drops back

Totally agree, the side-step is too slow and it’s largely ineffectual. I graded all the evasion skills a couple of weeks back here and said that the side-step is a 5/10 for effectiveness and needs to be increased to a 6/10. That’s changed… for the worse! I’d now rate it a 3/10! It must be improved. It’s an area where backs should stand out from forwards generally.

You’re referring to the fend surely? The bump off hardly works at all. You need a lot of momentum up to have any hope of a bump off working!

Yeah more or less exactly right. The games are an offload-fest! Without overdoing it Big Ant need to make the offload timing window shorter. I do want the AI on medium and above to be difficult though, perhaps on the top two difficulties they could keep a reasonably high degree of the AI offloading.

YES! This is in the “If we’ve mentioned it once, we’ve mentioned it a thousand times” category!!!

Rucks are something Big Ant need to get serious on and prioritize ahead of nearly everything else. We’re months in and no-one knows how exactly to play them. They need to make it a clear system, with clear effectiveness when we input controls.

Again, one that we’ve stated like broken records!

Finally one other thing. When passes go to no-one, they should not rocket bounce to the sideline or backwards to the in-goal.

I had a pass that went backwards missing my players and CONTINUE TO BOUNCE RAPIDLY 80m to my in-goal and then dead. When the ball contacts the ground it must lose 70% of it’s momentum and then rapidly lose all of the rest of it.

I know Big Ant’s team are doing their best and all it seems like we do is complain, but there have been improvements. There is some seriously good work in areas. Whether things are working well post-patches or not, you can see they are trying to get it right. Please keep persisting for us.

The good thing is that other than having slightly varying issues, nearly all the user-base are talking about the same problems, so it helps give clear feedback on what we all broadly speaking want. It would be wonderful to see some of these issues checked off for good.

Hello everyone,
First of all, the bugs I observed after the update:

  • Quick touch for my team recovered by an opposing player who is impossible to tackle. As a result, game impossible.
  • 3-man touch with a maul close to the line who can’t get the ball out, and no whistle from the referee, so play is also impossible.

The changes I consider most important to make the game more enjoyable to play:

  • AI needs to play a more varied game (kicks)
  • More forward passes and dropped balls + penalties
  • The AI must choose its penalties better (it always chooses the scrum).
  • The scrum needs to be fixed - it’s impossible to win and takes too long.
  • Technical moves must be fixed (bump of for heavier players, wider and faster steps for wingers)
  • Players stoping or slowing when receiving a pass
    Thanks for the updates !

Played about 6 games haven’t seen a high tackle in any of them.

Rain back to looking rubbish and not like the games I had before the patch.

Gameplay wise I feel it went to almost launch week especially with the ball just flying anywhere teleport tackles at rucks and ball just dropping for no reason. Even had a team hit gap and before they could score ball somehow just flew out of their hand up to the sky and dropped 50m behind them

Easy fix for Ai choosing a scrum when winning a penalty. Turn off that option for the AI to choose. It is so rare that team picks a scrum from a penalty that no one would notice.

In most cases in rugby teams use scrums to win penalties

Ross posted on X that the team are looking at the latest patch, wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t an hot fix, and I agree with Ross that they need to post 1 patch a week, the latest patch as definitely took the game backwards imo,

Agree with all the comments here. The latest patch has made the game borderline unplayable.

Passing mechanics have reverted - dropped balls occuring far too regularly.

Ruck turnovers down with Ai possession control being very heavy.

I’ll wait until next week before picking up again.

Hi Big Ant,

So I may be going against the grain here but I find the game more playable after the latest patch in a few areas.

I am really enjoying the improved ability of AI defence. Still could be pushed further on the hardest levels or another difficulty level added above it whereby the defence was more dominant and manages to push lesser teams back and exert pressure that way. I used Kiribati for one match and didn’t actually score a try against the other team!

With comparative teams it seems to be slightly better also, 60 or 70 isn’t as usual and more believable scores are happening more regularly. Player stats differences are really starting to show in game now which is also great.

*In both cases though the AI attack, though improved in approach with more passing and variation in the attack then before still has no real intent or danger. Even more variation needed.

I am also liking the increased difficulty in scrums, not winning every scrum regardless of who’s feed it is really takes steps towards having more competitive games. As noted above though in others feedback, on your own feed the only way to get the ball out really is by picking it up with your 8 as if you time all shoves correctly in green you still get penalised.

The last part I am not sure if it was intentional or not but having some offloads where players take them on the back foot is great. Currently the game is just offload city and too easy on attack. So if the intent is to give a risk reward with offloads where if you do them in wrong situations you possibly lose ground then I am all for that. It happens in real rugby so why not in game.

I am not going to list the negatives as I can see most have covered off some things I would have said anyway around the bugs etc. I am definitely not in the revert the last patch camp though. As I started with I find it more enjoyable difficulty wise now then at any previous point in this “journey” and there have definitely been worse patches than this. More in the quand next patch camp.

P.S The world rankings in the career is a nice touch.

You are indeed right I’ve just booted up my game and sure enough an update has been applied.

I can only hope it has reverted the game back to the previous patch.

Even if we lose the grass texture again on PS5, at least the gameplay was more playable.

Anyway time to check out the update, fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Anyone else’s game constantly crash after finishing a game in competitions.

Also why can we remove playing from their original squads to add in our own so we can have our own custom career mode.

I’m still getting the ball rocketing up in the air out of no where. Also am i dont something wrong when getting players to the ruck. I keep pressing O (on PS5) but none of my players join the ruck

Defence is way stronger now, but it’s a forwards game with no width. Kind of tedious after last weekend’s (quite exciting) high scoring games. OP’s players have absolutely no width. This is now the major issue.

Just one of a few things I’ve noticed. Why all of a sudden have we gone back to sides not offloading and passing like they were and now just one pass barge into the defenders?

Also what’s with the little twinkle toes dance as a player attempts to get past a defender? It obviously doesn’t work.

I’m also noticing as soon as a player gets the ball it’s as if he’s carrying one of those large heavy stone balls from the Worlds Strongest Man contest.

It’s as if he’s weighted down and can hardly run.

Scrum Half passing seems to have almost no power in his initial offload from a ruck? This is resulting in too many dropped balls.

Defence will go for a box kick and more times than not it ends up in a right calamity where he’s barged down, loses the ball, opponent can’t pick the ball up for some reason, and then the defending side do and almost run in a try!! It’s comical to see once, a little annoying twice, and completely frustrating more than that.

Oh dear oh dear. Guys I mentioned about rolling the patch back one after yesterdays patch. Any chance you can roll back past todays hot fix, and yesterday’s patch please.

Forget nice lush grass on the PS5, I’d much rather have the gameplay from Tuesdays patch. That was far better than what we have ended up with.

I’ve been happier the past couple of weeks, but it seems we have gone back a few steps again.

Game now plays like it did at least 2 weeks ago imo.

Any chance of a roll back to Tuesdays patch at all maybe……possibly……..please? Or yet again we are going to have to wait all over the weekend and until next Tuesdays patch where I can only hope we get something better.

Many thanks and sigh

Edit: Just quickly, I’ve watched Consistent Walkthroughs video he posted about an hour ago. Now, fair enough he’s actually playing against the AI rather than how I play it which is AI v AI.

Now my question is this, are there any gameplay differences between PC, XBox X/S, and PS5 (which I’m on)? Just gameplay not graphics. I’m not bothered about graphics. Just pure gameplay, are there any differences?

Be interesting to know that.

Anyway many thanks :folded_hands:

Just played 4 games with the latest Friday update. Ps5. Medium difficulty, side camera view. Super rugby competition.

Couple of passes floated up in the air and back down.

Ai and myself passed to ground a few times - but this has definitely reduced from the previous version.

Finding Ai will hand off on almost every play, meaning it’s taking 2 of my defence to bring a player down each run.

Often after an AI sidestep / handoff the ai becomes ‘invincible’ with a huge amount of pace to break the defencive line.
When I handoff it’s almost static and don’t get afforded the same outcome with handoffs.

My defensive line splits often and leaves a huge hole where AI players would burst through.

Players not joining rucks quickly enough. They hover and then join as soon as soon as AI passes ball away from ruck.

Managed to turn over a few rucks which was very difficult before the Friday update. (It’s still rarer and more difficult in comparison to how the ai can turn the ball over).

Had one instance where the ball flew vertically, was off screen for a while and came back down.

Conversion mechanics are spot on.

Quick throws still bug out.

Certainly Plays better than this morning. But still a few things to address.

It could be amazing so I don’t want to lose faith!
