Hey when is Hamish McLachlan getting put into the game?
Iām coming back to the game after a while out.
Is it safe to say that Play Now and the Acadamy are at a good position now? It wouldnāt be perfect but it would mean that I can sink some time into this game creating teams and playing as them as Iāve always been a sucker for creating stuff in game and then playing around with it.
There is certainly a lot of work that needs to be done on the game still, but Iād be able to get some personal enjoyment out of the game if that is the case. Like most people, I do have feelings on how things have gone but Iām done thinking of the bigger picture and just want to check in and see if Iām able to get some enjoyment out of AFL 23.

Wondering if we can get a feature that allows us to alter the positions of players in a management career similar to what we can do in the academy with licenced players. Can be a bit frustrating when a player you want to play in defence gets auto subbed into the forward line as thats his position. Would be very helpful for people who play management career for seasons on end, like myself.

Can you play afl 23 on ps offline?
Hey mate I donāt think thereās a way to do it in management career as such, but as you said you can go into the academy and change their positions which will roll over to management mode as long as you change the tab in the options before your career starts, it says something about changing licensed players will change the game mode slightly etc etc. if you choose that the players youāve change positions will be available in management mode in those positions of your choice
So in management mode does the players rating rise and lower depending how much time they get in a match or season?

While thats a nice option to have I was more referring to changing it multiple years into your career where you have decided over an offseason that you want a player to change positions. For example you can bring a guy in from the trade period who is listed as a defender but a year into his time at your club you want him to transition into a midfield role. The ability to change his position would be desirable so that he will maintain his role during games. Ie. Jordan Dawson.
Oh yes now i understand what you mean sorry, yeah canāt help you with that one. Hopefully thatās something that BA can implement to be brought it. Would be a good way to play the game differently too.
I was doing a season with Brisbane and was getting killed in clearances, for some reason charlie Cameron ended up in the middle for almost a quarter and that whole time him being in there I cleaned up in clearances, so it would be a cool way to change it up. @JNT_BA @RossSymons is this something that is easy to implement?
Wondering how many other are having this issue or if it is just me that needs more practise in these areas? Open to suggestionsā¦
I honestly forget about modifiers, thereās so many chances where there is a ball up near my opps goals, ball spills out of the contest and Iāve tried to soccer it through. The soccering animation is so slow and half the time my player goes to pick it up first before soccering it in. If they just kicked it straight away it would be such a good way to add excitement if the game is close etc. Iām assuming this is a bug and depending on how many people use modifiers it may or may not have been picked up?
Another more than likely me problem, If i get the ball after a ruck contest near opp goal square and try to score with circle (PlayStation goal kick button)half the time Iāll blast it out on the full 2 metres out. Should it be slightly easier to score a quick goal out of a contest near the opps goal square? Anyone else have the same problems? Maybe the shooting bar doesnāt fill up quick enough, Iāve got no clue
Hopefully they look into it. Would be nice in that situation to try charlie in the mids for a full game just to test it out or at least have the option there without the auto subs dragging him into the forward line every time he gets subbed off.

Yeah I believe that is the case. Especially the older guys, if they arenāt getting game time and performing well in their role, then theyāll drop off quick and sharp. The other players develop depending on their age, expected peak time for their position, and gameplay I believe. Iāll find JNTās post on the other site and drop it in here

When it comes to player progression it relies on a few factors when it comes to growth. The main ones are the āpeakā and ādeclineā of each player based on the position will determine how stats are added or reduced. Letās use the example of a ruck. Say the peak age is simplified to 25, at 23 they will still have improvement but they will not be as a large potential allocation as when there are at their peak performance.
Letās play around with some numbers to give an idea, again these are not the exact numbers as there are some variables on peak age and weighting on stat distributions on the role and match performance, but just to get across the idea. With the +/- stats based on individual player performance during the match.
23/50% role match rating +2
23/100% role match rating +5
24/50% role match rating +4
24/100% role match rating +7
25/50% role match rating +6
25/100% role match rating +10
At 25 years old they will āpeakā from that position which will have the maximum amount of gains across the player based on match performance with some weightings.
Now when you peak eventually you will have a ādecline,ā again for the purpose of this example say 28 is when you start on a heavy decline. This will mean a reduction in your stats based on match performance again with weightings taken into consideration such as the position where you may not be able to maintain those numbers.
You will start to see a curve the other way and will start to see your stats and OVR declining to a potentially heavy drop depending on match performance for the specific role. Of course, keeping your player active in their role can help push back the reduction from age but will not stop it overall as time goes on.
For the more visually inclined. Letās use a standard curve to show how a player can progress.
In this, the red line would represent a new draftee. They wonāt start at 0 but they will start somewhere along the curve. Now the black line is where they ācouldā end up after their peak days are over and will have some major degradation which you would begin to filter out before this as why keep someone who potentially has the same OVR as a draftee but wonāt show any more progression. In the game, it would be a flatter curve at the top for the peak but I hope you get what I was going for. Again this is an example of the potential outcomes for each player would have a lot of variance taking into consideration all the different factors that each player has.
Possessions are different to disposals. A player gets a possession every time they have the ball in the hands. For example a player who gathers a loose ball, then gets tackled without disposing, will get awarded 1 possession and 0 disposals.
Major ball winner should line up with total possessions count (contested + uncontested)- not disposals.
FYI- Pendlebury has the disposals record. Does he actually have the possessions record yetš¬
Also im sick of changing my side for every match there should be a way too save the lineup so its ready for the next match
If you change the team lineups in academy before starting a season mode, It will become the default lineup
Yep, completely agree that it should show the total possession getters. I got a response in a support ticket about this saying that a change to that Match Summary page to reflect that should be coming in a future patch.

Thats so weird, what if people dont have access too the internet thats a bit unfair
But you have the internet to download the patches? Game needs to be on same version for cross play too.
