AFL 23 - Megathread

I just did a 15 minute quarter ladder leaders round on easiest, and just had Cripps running up and down the wing handballing it to himself for an hour :joy:

I remember I think they said earlier there would be a surprise or something like that coming but not sure what it is

I guess the whole Christmas event wasn’t a good surprise :person_shrugging:. But no nothing planned for this week.

Most of the studio is on holidays.

Does anyone have any of these GC player cards or seen anyone else with these cards in game? Players are Noah Anderson, Matt Rowell & David Swallow.
I’m trying to build an all Gold Coast team and I saw these cards in one of the coach battle teams but I’ve never seen them in any online games. I’m starting to doubt whether these cards are actually obtainable in game…

Hi @JNT_BA - if you’re back on deck - is there any way you can sync your pro team between Steam and PSN?

If the answer is no, will there be any way to find Level 40 Cripps in the next season?

Have a story you might like to hear - had a bunch of Brazilians playing AFL 23 today instead of FIFA. Hand on heart, I thought the game would last five minutes and they played for a full hour. It was the rush to understand the controls faster than other players that did it, no one wanted to be losing simply because they couldn’t figure out how to handball or kick a goal. They had some really good matches in the end.

I’d imagine you will be able to find the level obsidian Cripps next season… I’ll have to look but I earnt level 40 dusty last season and this season I got him in a pack :grimacing: Was a good 7000FP or something sell

Is the obsidian player 10 goals objective not working for everyone else?

I had to do it twice for it to pop.
And just to be safe, I had Dusty kick 20 goals 2nd time around.

Approaching the end of Season 3 how do we feel about where the games at, I’ve posted a couple of these wish list type posts at the end of each season. Love the game and all the wish list items I suggest is just me wanting to see the game consistently improving for all of us

The new additions to gameplay this season

  • manual field kick to space (loved this addition)

Wish list

Defending

  • More tackling animations
  • (Run down tackles, pin the single arm, multiple player tackles, high tackles)
  • Bumping physics need working on, players either need to go to ground or ride the bump without any glitchy animations
  • Diving on loose balls (risk of dragging back in, holding the ball)
    (High risk, high reward animation)
  • Jostling in stoppages and marking contests are present but would like it to be a bit more than just a stagnant animation, if you have higher strength you create distance from your opponent

Without ball

  • player fatigue is a must
  • Bench to become relevant in the game
  • Player speeds to be more noticeable for loose ball gets and breaking away from opponent (you’ll have many times you’ll have 10m on the closest chasing defender and by the time you max your field kick you’ll get caught from behind
  • Would love to see custom stoppage tactics where you can position the midfielders where you’d like with optional running patterns so you can ruck to your game style
    ( imagine being able to start 2 defensive mids behind the ruck late in a game to prevent a player running out of the stoppage with ease, which happens a lot)
  • Grabbing ball from the ruck, would add another real aspect to the game
  • Players whether it’s a loose ball or marking contest running over/under the ball (this would open up the flow of the game) positioning stats would be the big factor in this

Forwards

  • the game is very contested marking based, the need to make the small forwards more relevant is the biggest task for devs
    Bringing in the manual field kick was a good starting point

(With possible more missed kicks, ball comes to ground, Pace and positioning while a loose ball is up for grabs is how I see it working)

  • Defender on the mark while having shot for goal needs better reaction time to the spamming of R2+O shot for goal on the run
  • Love to see the new kicking mechanic to be implemented with hand balling

Marking

  • Speckies still need to some attention to the glitching launch zone
  • Still feel only 5 star players can attempt these marks, otherwise ball just comes to ground
  • Pack marks with collisions, I know collisions is a hard thing to implement for devs but in a 360 motion game I feel like it needs it
    Imagine being able to replicate marks like Leo Barry coming from the side and players hitting the deck
  • Pushing back off the mark still feels a bit clunky especially when you want to give off a short quick handball to running receivers

Umpiring

  • 50 m penalties (running through mark)
  • Deliberate out of bounds decisions are inconsistent
  • High tackles, in the back, dangerous tackles would like to see more than once or twice in a game

Visual in game stats

  • Coding needs a bit of work so we can get some real representation of player stats when having shots for goals
  • Would love to see random on screen stats of players who are finding the footy (even have the commentary, acknowledging the on screen stats)

Once again these are just opinions of how I see the game, I just put these out with hope they get read from the people who work on the game.

Anyway looking forward to the 2025 season of the video game !
