The endless strokes feature is very welcome, but to be really useful, variation in the speed and length of the shots coming from the ball machine are needed.

No, I mean the endless strokes mode in the tutorials, which is effectively a practice session.
The ball machine varies the direction of the ball, but not speed or the length of the ball that it sends out.
