Finding the Gaps?

Ok. Last patch was very nice for the game.

What Im finding strange is I have a very hard time finding gaps after a powerplay.

i use pro controls. Is there something to help find the gaps to hit 4s and 6s? Settings? Programming issues?

It just gets rather frustrating that every shot i hit on the ground seems to go straight to a fielder for 1. I try aggro-ground shots, unorthodox etc.

Some go through of course, but seems like more could.

I’m with you on this. I feel the back foot cover drive / square cut is my main run scoring shot 1. because the majority of deliveries feed this shot, 2) it’s somewhat overpowered.

I’ve sent Big Ant a couple of suggestion emails on this, but I think that a couple of things could help with this:

  1. More natural variation in line that bowlers bowl. I think too many deliveries are outside off stump. There’s not enough to glance to fine leg/midwicket/wide of mid on. This means I play the back foot cut shot over and over. And the ball often goes in the same place, to the deep fielder for one run.

  2. More natural variation in where the ball goes off the bat. I’m unclear if when using Pro controls, there’s ‘only’ 8 ‘locations’ on the stick (i’ll use the compass: N,S,E,W,NNE,NNW,SSE,SSW)? Or is it ‘infinite’ being digital?

If limited, a right handed cover drive to SSW on the stick is always going in a similar place. More natural variation / more precision with the stick would therefore allow the ball to go to the left/right hand side of the cover fielder, probably depending on the line the ball was bowled. So, a ball cover driven off 4th stump might go between cover’s right hand and mid off’s left hand. But a ball cover driven from say 5th/6th stump line is likely to go to the left hand of cover, and so forth.

It’s the same with pull shots. Tend to miss these shots unless the ball is heading towards the body. However, IRL, you can pull balls from wide of off stump, and the resulting shot tends to go straighter. Short balls heading down leg side should then be pulled/hooked finer.

On driving using SSE on the stick: if the ball is on middle and off the shot would likely go to mid on. If the ball is on middle and leg the shot would likely take the ball between midwicket and mid on.

And so on. But this shot variation is only possible with a bit more line variation from the bowlers to open up the possibilities.

Think they fixed this on the patch, had some drives just fly to the boundary now for 4, faster than they can pick it up. Had some pull shots for six again. It was a lot of fun!

Note I did turn down AI Physical and Fielding to 30 each. But it produced a lovely game for me right now, I had to chase 198/8 and won on the last ball with a 4 and 22 total off the last over with one wicket remaining!

Don’t you think the shot power is a bit too much, don’t think its that realistic?

It’s a little fast. But it’s made it more competitive.

I think it’s because lots were complaining three ideal didn’t guarantee a six. Now it does. Haha.

but yeah, sliders can probably be adjusted. I just hit 200 again. Maybe felt a little too easy.

I’ve adjusted the shot force slider, not making any difference.. think they have broken that.

Ah, maybe. Still, it’s entertaining. Just hope it’s not too OP. I hit that recent 200 on a grassy/dry medium surface.

maybe I can make batting more difficult to make those huge shots more rare and rewarding.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I had my settings just to the point they were comfortable for what I wanted from the game. I don’t play on the most challenging of difficulty but I was happy with the way I was able to build an innings…particularly in the longer format. Now it just feels like shots are zooming off the bat…everything is a 4 or a single. I had it before where with the precision shot I could get plenty of 2s and even the odd 3. Now that shot just basically goes straight to a fielder. Very frustrating.

I know what you guys mean but in my experience so far all my games since the latest patch have been quite fun. Last ball to hit 199 and win, hit 200 defended, hit 204 defended, chased 170 to 19.5 for the win.

Each time I’ve increased AI Fielding and Phyiscal from 30, now I’m at 40. I had AI batting skill at 55, but for the last game I had it 60.

I’ve slightly increased some batting difficulty, up like 1 or 2 points in some areas. I already use a fairly easy batting skill, custom made though. Shouldn’t matter either way.

But yeah, scoring a little high, I guess? But still it’s fairly on point. Video games tend to have a higher scoring rate than their real world counterparts as well. So their not doing too bad here. Step in the right direction for realistic results.

There’s huge scores happening now, you all might have just seen 257 chased in BBL with still one ball to come. 8 of the 29 non-rain effected games in SA20 have been over 200. And like 9 out of 44 in BBL, with 6 teams getting into the 190s, bigger grounds in BBL. Maybe 1 in 3 games statistically have a chance of going to 200+.

Just pulled this up from AI.

Yikes, the unthinkable happened. I increased bowl quality influence and AI bowl quality. Not even talking a lot. like 5 points.
Got destroyed but I love it. Unpredictability is great.
