Hints and Tips thread

As far as i can tell there isn’t a dedicated Hints and Tips thread which is probably abit late now and would have been better when game first launched. Despite being many YTers that post content. It’s abut thin on the ground when looking for some guidance.

Any how a regular theme I see is players struggling to get their shots away and getting 4s and 6s. I’ve played thousands of hours across the franchise. And it may just be my play style. But to me each batting type has its strengths and weaknesses. Even how tall and slender or chunky your batter is. I only play Rookie career and have started many new careers in this game. One because off familiarising myself with the new archetypes and the differences between them if any. Two so many patches. After a few big ones drop with a ton of gameplay changes. I like to delete the game and do a clean install. To limit any errors if any when installing patch.

My 3 go to batting types are 1,3,5

Type one good on both sides behind square. Along the ground and in the air. Hook/pull, glancing, cutting and square drives. And decent at every delivery length. I find a little weak in the air infront square. But for me the most balanced batting type.

Batter 3. Driving on the offside along the ground. Mighty in the air infront of wicket on both sides, with good, full and Yorker length. Weak in air with hook/pull and cut shots. But is decent playing along the ground Playing lofted cut shots or big hooks have got me out many a time. Glance really weak for me. More often than not I get a leading edge.

Batter 5 like 1 strong on leg side hooks, glance. Really strong in the air. Cutting strong in air. When playing back foot cuts along the ground. I advise not to play the shot if there’s a gully or 5th slip. Ball launches of the bat and tends to carry. Also strong playing sweep shorts. Weak driving through covers. And hard to get it past the ring field. Really strong against leg spinners. When they bowl middle and leg. Aggressive glance shots smash the ball into orbit.

As for bowling styles. So many different variations. I play as a fast bowler but still havnt found one I like. Many i havnt. Bowlers that jump then have a fast arm action are the bane of my life so i avoid them as my old man fingers are too slow getting the release right and end up with a weak wide delivery. I like bowlers that have a big side step so more angle variation in run up. Which slightly changes the length the ball pitches. If good length inswingers are just missing top of stumps a one or two steps to the left I find pitches the ball a little fuller. The reverse for Outswingers… bowler types I use are Starc, Star 1 and 2. With Starc and star 1 are best for line and full and good length: star 2 in swing off cutters and plus gets wickets regularly bowling bouncers and Yorkers. Something the other two i struggle with. Jothra i sometimes use. Good bowling short and Yorkers. Just been using legendary 4(Flintoff I think) and wasn’t getting much joy. I googled his height. Change my players to match and body style to 3 as he had big broad shoulders. Wickets have now been tumbling.

I have tried some of the new batting styles and Meh. I would definitely avoid batting styles that have a high back lift at beginning of your career when your batting skills are low. Especially if your batsman is taller than 6ft. Face a high number of fast bowlers early in career bowling well over 90mph. Often fail Getting bat down intime when they bowl Full and Yorkers.

Also. If you want to get easy wickets bring the inner field up. Put fielders at leg gully and short mid wicket. And bowl short deliveries and bouncers. The Ai batters can’t help themselves and pull the ball straight into the hands of leg gully most of the time and occasionally some batters opt to hit it into short mid wickets hands. I find as a right hand bowler bowling around the wicket to right hander is abit more effective. Be warned this tends to work best in first class and tests. As batter will tend to hook/pull the ball along the ground. In limited overs they will generally go airborne and by the time you get the wicket it can cost more runs than its worth.

But in long form matches I’ve stopped doing it because I was getting 5+ batters out in every innings for no more than 30 runs and not only that because I was getting opposition out so cheaply. My team kept winning by a innings and costing me valuable time at crease to improve batting skills. However brick wall archetypes annoy me. Ball after ball they do nothing other than bore me to tears. Only boundaries they get come from edges. However after ducking or getting hit on body a few times: they eventually pull it out get out. All out aggressive batters tend tp get out with a couple of deliveries. If bouncers dont carry to leg gully when batter plays a few shots. Short leg/off cutter will end it
