With the latest update, I noticed a few frustrating bugs. For instance, in doubles, it’s impossible to aim for the alleys! For this reason double are unplayable.
Players with high topspin stats almost always hit the ball out of bounds when using the loop effect—Nadal is a prime example of this. I saw this bug when playing Rafa/Federer challenge…
I also remember that when a player was created with the minimum height, it was impossible to pass the first training sessions in career mode. I’m not sure if this has been patched yet…
Additionally, defensive shots still feel way too flat and overly precise. We should have the option to hit sliced (used to me more flat indeed) or lobbed defensive shots instead.
What I mainly criticize about doubles play is the level of our AI partner. The AI overuses slice shots and often makes a lot of unforced errors. On top of that, when we push the opponent out of the court boundaries by playing into the alleys,
Our partner remains completely passive and doesn’t cut off trajectories to take advantage of the spaces that have been created.
We also can’t choose our positioning when our partner is serving or when the opponent is serving—only when we are serving ourselves. In AO2, we were able to do that.
So yes, there are definitely things that need to be improved in doubles, particularly the AI’s decision-making and overall game awareness.
I couldnt but maybe it was fixed, i don’t know when. In fact i saw this prob after the last patch months ago but then i stopped the game and now one were talking about.
Im writing now because i saw the news about new patch. I thought the last month ago was the last so i didnt try to write a review.
But for defensive shot, i think it’s always a big problem, unrealistic. The loop effect shot depends a lot of top spin statistic i think, because with Nadal it’s too hard to aim properly, and not with players with low top spin stats.
These shots need to be used at the right time, but they’re rarely decisive. They can be useful for buying time to recover your position or for reinforcing a wrong-footing play.
What is certain, in my opinion, is that movement still needs work, especially sprinting with the L2 and R2 triggers. Also, after every slide, you’re left completely vulnerable because the player takes far too long to recover and get back into position.
If you watch tennis, you can see Defensive shots like when you have to hit the ball back in defensive position, mostly in extension while sliding for example. Players use to do that for repositionning, with a lob, but ofc they can slice and sometimes trying “flat shot”, like Sinner or Djokovic sometimes.
