Not what i expected

Just played another 35 min half with a different setup. Better result but still haven’t missed a tackle. Got a bit more work to do.

This is not the result i expected at halftime playing a slightly modified game on legend mode. This is too easy to play now.

Check out the stats. I have added some pre game photos and the setup. All pl except Ramsey have the same player stats that came with the game. I made Ramseys a little better to be more realistic.

42 to nil after 35 minutes in legend mode is ridiculous. I’m not that good and i can’t see what i modified that would create 0 missed tackles from me.

Damnnnnnn we must be playing a completely different game somehow, I have custom difficulties for everything set to amatuer and I’m getting 4-5 missed tackles every set

Maybe they have it round the wrong way. Maybe amatuer is actually legend. I have now played 5 games on these legend settings with some different tweaks and are yet to miss a tackle. If i play just on veteran alone i still win but miss maybe 10 tackles.

Before this i could never compete in legend mode. I’m not sure what they’ve done. Hoping one of the developers looks at those settings and works out why. I like a challenge.

If you play the same game using the default legend setting (not a custom) is the result the same, too easy for you ?

I said in another thread, the custom settings are not what you think. Legend does not equal the default Legend settings, nor Rookie, Am, Pro etc… you are not modifying the default settings, it is something else, but what exactly, I have no idea.

No it is way harder. I expect you are correct. I am still playing around with the custom settings. Just finished another half with some different settings against the same Souths team. It has gotten a bit more competitive but i still have 0 missed tackles compared to their 28. I am going to put the changes in the original post. Just need to find what effects my ability to make every tackle then i think i will have the game as best as i can get it.

Have found that the defence aggression level max = defence compresses in leaving space out wide, lover evens defence line out

It works for both user ai and opposition ai defence

however I don’t find anything besides super low and max slider setting makes enough difference

Really enjoying the game now thanks big ant, just a few small tweaks to make ai team attack a bit more varied with passing/ kicks would be great and more ai winger contested catches for tries

Thanks

That is my next tweek. I will take it up to max as i have been increasing it each time and the game gets a bit harder. Still can’t find anything that makes my defence weaker though in those settings.

The game is definitely getting better.

Hopefully they fix the following.

Dummy half glitch where they stand around looking at the ball. The other dummy half glitch where they try to run from dummy half on 3 consecutive plays and i push them back every time after the first.

My player stepping into touch everytime they collect the ball around a metre from the sideline from a kick even when i’m not the one controlling them.

The defence line retreating beyond the try line. At least they no longer go beyond the dead ball line anymore.

My markers not being square sometime and allowed to make a tackle without a penalty or 6 again given.

Kicks that go into players that are offside and not ruled a penalty or a handover.

They have the OVR influence slider, but that seems to indicate a Boost above normal. To me, it just seems to adjust how many players swarm towards the ball carrier, on max it looks a bit like a bunch of small kids playing footy and all chasing the ballcarrier at the same time.

Theres nothing I can find that seems to decrease the actual effectiveness of the defence.

Yeah. No doubt i will probably just have to reduce the individual players defense. Had some really good games by increasing everyones across the comp before they introduced the sliders. Like most of the custom settings across the game most don’t work. Custom comps just revert to NRL rules. Custom interchanges always stay at 8 etc etc. This would be a really good game if they actually worked. I’m a bit old school. I don’t like 7 tackle sets, 40/20s, 20/40s, 6 agains and i like when it rains it affects the field. Pity because it is a fairly decent game. They’ve gone backwards on the custom side of things from Live 4 unfortunately.

IMO, all they need to do is have a system where you select a default settings, Pro for example, then create a modified version based on sliders and save.

If you do not change any settings, but just save as a modified version of Pro, it then just plays like normal defautl Pro.

Currently you can not compare apples with apples as the system is not based on the above. It seems to be you start with some kind of modified setting which some sliders may or may not affect.

I agree. However i have just played the most competitive 40 half since playinh around with the sliders. 18 - 12 at halftime against the Raiders and the second try was gifted to me when the Raiders played the ball 2 metres out from their own try line and the dummy half threw the ball into the post and my defender fell over the line with it. Still haven’t missed a tackle though but the Raiders hardly missed any either. I think all i need to do now is put a bit more fatigue into the game. Most of my forwards finished the first 40 low 70s with a couple around the 50 mark. Hopefully that makes them miss a few.

Finally think i’ve worked out the best setup for me. Down 18 to 6 at half time the Dragons came back for a hard fought 24 all draw.

Luco - have you noticed anything different with the latest update ? Im sure it has changed as I find I am breaking more tackles constantly and the AI fending is less

No i played a game after the update on my custom settings that i won 17 to 6 after leading 7 nil at half time. The team i beat had a rating 7 points better than my team. Both teams had 0 missed tackles i had around 17 line breaks to their 7.

Just finished half a game (35 minutes) on pro mode using 2026 teams i downloaded before playing. This is the result i got. Melbournes rating 84 the Dragons rating 80.

What i noticed was Melbourne scored 6 of the tries came from a metre or 2 out where i could only get 1 defender into the tacke as the others just looked on doing nothing or were retreating back to the dead ball line. Everytime i got a player over the line but from close out the AI managed to get 2 or 3 into the tackle and roll me over resulting in no tries. They still have a long way to go to get this anywhere near looking like a decent game. It seems to always be 1 step forward 2 steps back way of doing things. I have also noticed the game plays differently when you play now than it does when you play a custom game of a comp. On play now your custom match settings actually work as opposed to it all just reverts back to NRL rules in a custom comp. I expect if they are trialling their fixes using play now they aren’t getting a realistic look at it from a custom comp perspective.

It would be nice if they gave an explanation as to what each slider does as it doesn’t really do what their current explanations in the text with each one actually does.

It would also be nice if we could play a custom comp with a minimum of 17 teams or be able to select our custom leagues when trying to play a preset NRL comp like we could in both live 4 and 3.

Anyway looks like i either just keep playing with my custom difficulties and never missing a tackle, the last game i dropped the tackle skills of all my players by 5 and still never missed any which now make twelve 70 minute games of not missing any or i change the skills of my players to be better than the opposition and play the preset pro mode so i can compete and have an unrealistic amount of missed tackles.

If I use your settings which seem to be all Legend, but everything set to nil or off apart from OVR I get zero missed tackles when playing AI only games.

If though i change back the Legend Evade settings to default, it allows the AI to break the tackles or force the defender to miss and the missed tackles counts go up normally.

Not sure if this is what you are trying to achieve, but without any evade settings, the AI does not miss a tackle mainly because the AI can not evade. This could also affect your gameplay and explain the missed tackles ???

I think that with the very latest updates the custom options were almost useable. I recently noticed that on XBox driving (pushing forward with your stick on tackle) did not work at all, or very very rarely - not sure if that was the case on PC ?

What ever choices and changes I made nothing worked. The results all seemed the same, did not matter if I chose default Rookie or default Legend settings, a simple drive forward while being tackled was near on impossible.

With the latest update, which is the recent one with no release notes. I can actually push forward in the tackle, and the default settings (so far) seem to work more like expected.

Cheers. I will take a look at that.

I have always been able to push forward on the settings i have by the way. Hence the difference in metres between my controlled team and the cpu controlled.

Interesting, there may be differences between Xbox and PC at times - I think your on PC ?

I tried for hours, all different custom settings, could not push forward at all, just like hitting a brick wall.

The next update, bang, can now push forward on all settings I have tried.

No i’m on PS5

I have almost given up on any of the custom setting and custom sliders. Decided to try the latest update just on the normal game settings. I think i will stick with these until they make the custom settings and sliders actually work.

PS5, Pro mode 70 minute game. These stats are almost mimicking a real game.

Dragons reserves v Sea Eagles reserves.

The strange thing though is my halfback man of the match had more running metres than the whole of the team with 1867 to the teams total of 1452.

Anyway i actually enjoyed this one. 7 to 6 at halfime. 13 to 6 fulltime.

Totally agree with the above.

There is something basically wrong, not sure what though.

My current take is that that you start with a new customer level which has nothing to do at all with the normal game settings.

You then are just adjusting the new custom setting. The terminology shown for Rookie, Pro, Legend etc. has nothing do do with the normal game settings. You can totally ignore those and just use the sliders to adjust this custom setting.
