Pre Launch Megathread

One thing I noticed that has me concerned, when Panters was taking his kick outs, majority of the players were running into defensive 50 and keeping it clogged up where as normally there would be a pack of players forming on one side of the ground outside the D50 or if in a huddle situation, you’d still have players leading outside the 50 and only a few short options inside 50
Not sure if this is just a tactic thing but looked very questionable as no AFL team has all their players leading inside D50 from a kick out

Release day version might be slightly better than what we seen last night and this morning.

Anyone else notice the 10 metre kicks from AI getting called a mark? Gameplay looks clunky

I wonder if this will be some more juicy gameplay we are after

Disappointing that the goal on the run graphic is still the same. Doesn’t make a lot of sense for it to be horizontal when the goals are vertical. Makes it impossible to judge in a split second where to aim when trying to snap a banana or something like that.

Also still seems very small and difficult to see with the camera zoomed out.

Seen this on X just then in a comment

I tend to lean the other way on the horizontal vs verticle piece, I think it makes sense how it is.

The purpose of the meter is to select / time the angle / width of the kick in relation to the goals, whether it goes straight or across the face.

I’m not sure how vertical relating to height would work thb.

it’s definitely a mechanism that would love to see updated somehow, I’m just not sure there is an easy and logical answer given all the different kick types.

Interesting perspective, stopping the meter between the two vertical marks that appear and look like goal posts seems pretty logical to me?

It will be interesting to get others views.

Alright my Essendon nuffies I hope someone has somewhat idea for tactics for Essendon because there is alot to do there :joy: I don’t get in tactics why we can choose where the opposition has there spare player? Or am I reading that wrong

Not vertical relating to height, more that on the side camera angle, the goal posts are aligned vertically. So for a player at the bottom of the screen trying to kick a banana, you’d want to aim at the top post.

With the meter being horizontal it’s so hard to know in a split second which post I should be aiming at so that the ball curves in.

Yea same for me, got the last two on release day. I seen that if u order it 3 or more days before release date you’ll get it around release date time

I was under the impression footedness, natural curve and wind played a part. So for a right footer on the run you’d generally want to be aiming at, or inside, the right goal post.

On an interface like this, which one is the right goal post?

The one on the right of screen? Makes sense but then the graphic of the semi circle is misleading when considering the curve of a footy oval.

Or is the right goalpost the one that would be accurately represented as on the right hand side of the semi circle, which is actually on the left of screen?

A much clearer graphic is just to rotate the meter to match the alignment of goals on screen.

Or does footedness, natural curve, wind etc not actually play a part and I should just be trying to hit the centre every time and let the game figure out where to aim it?

Is the new game similar in size to AFL 23?

I always found a check side you aim between the lines didn’t move much once kicked

Snap - aim it on the line opposite to where you are standing would usually curl in

Personally, I’m always trying to hit the middle. I think footedness, pressure on the kick, direction you’re facing at the time of kicking all have bearing on the outcome. As does a natural randomness to that type of kick. The gap narrows, the more difficult the position on the field. Aligning it with the goals would work I guess, I personally wouldn’t like it in front of me as I kicked. I also like the fact it matches the curve of the other meters that exist in the game.

With goal kicking and on the run and set shot, there needs to be a pressure mechanic/or even confidence

For on the run, if your player is under pressure or off balance, it should be harder to get it on target, or even if stopped on target, more likely to spray it left or right. much like the comfort threshold in tiebreak I think. without some sort of system which affects your kick due to pressure - feel like it will become too easy

For set shot - much like the confidence metre in cricket when batting, higher rated players higher confidence (possibly slower metre run and bigger indicators) - and the opposite for lower players.

and it dynamically changes depending on past actions like missing a few set shots previously from easy spots.
