Hi there, I’ve just recently got the game. Has rucking changed with subsequent updates or are these tips still valid? I can barely win one or two a match on Easy/Medium, and when I do, I don’t really know what I did right!
Not as I’ve noticed still use the same method
I think the reason the rucks feel a little different, is because the AI cheats some when holding on, many times we should be able to steal, but we can’t, but we have no way of knowing if the AI is holding onto the ball, because unlike the user the AI never gets penalized for not releasing. I noticed the change when the holding on feature was implemented, so they have to tune this to either get the steal at the ruck, have the AI get penalized for not releasing the ball in the ruck, or the AI getting away with not releasing every now and then. There is a good system there, they just have to fine tune it, and add some elements, and flip the animations around from including anything from a simple steal, to 1, 2, or 3 man counter ruck push over. The animations are there they just have to organize them to fit better for the situation. 1vs1, 2vs1, 2vs2, or 3vs3, is when the counter ruck pushover should happen. Not 1 vs 3 pushover, maybe sometime a big forward 1 vs 2, but not 1 vs 3 that looks ridiculous. And then well eventually, be able to add up to 5 in the ruck, will make it a true Rugby sim rucking system.
Reply to [IanOM]: Yea up and unders are terrible at the moment, and it seem to have a fairly easy fix. Speed up the animation for the kick, particularly if it is a player with good infield kicking stats and increase the hight trajectory of the ball. Should be a simple fix, so I think Big Ant will fix this.
Yes, let’s hope so, it’s such an integral (and exciting) part of the real sport! As for the rucking, have you found a way to combat your own forwards hesitating to enter? I think this is the single most frustrating aspect of the game at the moment. Is there a timing element do you think (i.e. the game punishing frantic spamming of the buttons)? If they could introduce something similar to what Rugby 22 had, I think it would be far more rewarding.
I play on mostly on x-box -s , I don’t find much hesitation , you have to make sure you are not pressing the analog stick when binding, only press buttons, sometimes it does feel like they join quicker if I press the correct shoulder button, but not 100% on this. It could be the action of turning into defender and then binding that makes it quicker. I’ll check the steam version to see if I have any issues binding. And let you know.
To add to this, I am hoping it is not the action of the AI holding on that is causing an invisible barrier not letting the player join the ruck.
But again I am not finding much hesitation. Unless it is a stamina thing. I mostly only add 0-2 on defense and 1-2 on offense with occasional 3. Maybe that causes less hesitation on the next ruck because the stamina is higher? Maybe lower stamina is causing more bind hesitation? And I only sprint on occasion not always. So maybe it’s a stamina thing. Actually would be good if that was the case. So you don’t over commit players every ruck.
Cheers
Hey thanks for that, much appreciated my friend. I’ll try to put it all into action after tomorrow’s. patch!
Is the scrum tutorial bugged on XBox? I tried about 30 times to win the scrum…failed on every occasion!
yes, it is, its like they removed the 3 vs 1 , 2 , or 3 push over. This should come back because it gives more options at the ruck if you miss the intial tackle bind jackle/steal before the rucks forms. The system is there, its just been about 50% implemented, isolation passive steal turnovers at least have finally made into the game, but not with the same tackling player, that animation takes way to long to be effective, it’s a lot quicker to just bind the supporting rucking player after the tackle, this was intended (tackle, stand and steal with the Y then x) to be in the game, just very un-effective at the moment, this should be done by players that are good at this type of tackle, stand and steal when the offensive player is lacking rucking support.
Nice little resume on how the rucks might work better with some code tweaking Mr Lionmaul.
My problem are the scrums. I just can’t win the ball against the head in in the scrum tutorial.
Thinking about scrums in actual gameplay… I’ve probably ‘won’ two scrums…but then given away penalties on both of them for not using the ball early enough. I’m playing on XBox console…what do I need to do to win a scrum…then play from the back of it?
Tonwin scrum no choice, 1st step with rt lt, then 2nd step with A and then the 3rd one with X and you release the ball with your 8 .. if you continue with lt rt its penalty each time…
I was able to win scrums until the latest patch which seems to have made it harder again on easy difficulty
I cant win one scrum. When do you hook? How important is greening?
One tip I’ve noticed at a lineout watch we’re the AI Scrumhalf goes up the line and that’s we’re they’ll throw it
