Rugby 25 Megathread

Hey team @JNT_BA

Played on hardest difficulty

Game is broken after the last patch. Update has made there be a turnover at every ruck, making it very hard to put any phases together and get any attacking momentum. Would suggest balancing it out. Tackler should have an opportunity to jackal the ball when the ball carrier is isolated, resulting in either a turnover, penalty against the tackler for being off feet or not releasing the ball carrier before going for the ball or should win a penalty for the ball carrier holding the ball on the ground.

There are counter rucks but they aren’t always frequent and mainly occur when the ball carrier is isolated and there’s a massive mismatch at the ruck. Would suggest adding a bar, showing your chances of winning a ruck, that would help the player decide whether to add players or remove players from the ruck depending on what their chances are on winning/securing the ruck.

Please sort out positional play, support players running lines, angles, line depth/width etc. Still killing the enjoyment, creativity and realism of the attacking gameplay. Need structure and attacking flow. Support runners are still running aimless lines. Get them running on different angles and at different gaps. Have the 10 distributing with support runners running good lines. Look at the attacking gameplay of rugby league live 3 or 4. Need crisp passing, cut out passes and smooth animations.

Tactics and formations need to be fixed. Players don’t go into the correct formation to the tactic you’ve selected. Changing the tactic doesn’t seem to change or have any affect on the formation at all, so it’s pretty much aimless having it when it doesn’t work. For 1-3-3-1 get the 10 running behind outside the forward pod ball carriers shoulder getting ready for the tip pass.

Need to do some work on the side step as it’s broken and impossible to get the timing right. Your only options as the ball carrier is to either pass, draw in the defender and get an offload away, or use the bump off.

Please fix the offside calls, keep getting pinged for being offside when I’m not offside, and forward passes result in a penalty for being offside.

Please start prioritising this stuff. Every man and his dog continues to bring it up. We want this game to be a success and want to support you guys, but the constant disappointing patches and the lack of communication is making it a really tough gig.

Address these issues and watch your game improve massively!

Big thing for me is the player positioning. They stand way too deep. It’s like you almost passing behind you breaking momentum. Passing should also be less floaty. Float passing is ok for passing to a forward but back line passing should be quick and flat.

Ross has posted on X that there’s a fix coming today for turnovers to be adjusted and turnovers will be sorted next Wednesday patch with an option to withdraw players in the ruck :+1:

The patching merry go round continues…anyone for Rugby 22?

All these patches and hardly any improvements highlights one big issue for me: They clearly don’t have a testing team that knows rugby union.

The developers probably have more rugby league experience but it’s up to the testers to make them aware of changes / improvements.

That’s not the testing teams fault but they need to make sure they have poeple that know rugby union when testing.

Addressing that will go along way of speeding things up.

What the… the possibility to withdraw players from the ruck ? Oh come on, they’ve held on this 3 man-rucks for a year now (yeah, since the beginning of early access), people have complained about the ruck mechanic not being logic nor rewarding, some have asked for 5 man rucks… and then, 2 months after full release, when the rucks kinda felt less worse but the risk/reward mechanic was still unclear and kinda still broken, they throw in there the possibility to add 2 more players to the rucks, and the mechanic of course is still broken. So now it’s gonna be 6 more months of updating rucks before we have something decent, while the rest of the game is still lacking so much in every aspect of the game.

When mauls ?
When set plays ?
When line out set plays ?
When pick and goes ?
When close line defense ?
When AI defense ?

When end of Early Access ?

The Artificial ā€œIntelligenceā€ explained in one GIF.

Here the AI (Wallabies) team is 3 tries down, they get a turn over from a kick off receipt in my 22 with time just gone in the first half. They create an overlap, the winger has an open try line … instead of finishing it … he does a limp kick into touch instead.

They are clearly programmed to kick the ball out as soon as time is up, even when losing. Its stupid

Hey team,

I’ve only got a few minutes so just a short one. I’ve played some more women’s six nations games this morning and there are still squad management issues. The changes you make before a game are not reflected once you get into the match. They also still only have 5 subs available.

This means that I am still yet to be able to put the best womens player in the world Ellie Killdune into my team.

Also another MAJOR issue for me is that I cannot resume my career mode save since the update. Will this get fixed or do I need to start again? Very frustrating as I have a career mode series well under way on my channel :joy:

Thanks to the people who were super quick to send their save files to us. This patch has addressed all issues that we have had reported around the Career saves. If there are more that have popped up the support team never got reports or data about them.

Latest 5 man ruck patch update review. I like the ability to do this, but it needs lots of tunning. Quick note to help with new rucking(It is now important to hold on to the ball if you want to retain the ball more on offense, just do it briefly/quick and add rucking support, if you do it to long , you will be penalized, its a balance and a learned technique, but it seems to help retain the ball more on offense, just have to be careful to not hold on to long,(you will get penalized).
Having said that (the offense should have a better bonus at rucking retainment) on for both AI and USER.
Main points

  1. The offense should always have a considerable advantage at retaining the ball. Thats why in the sliders on RC4/RC3 you could do this , give higher advantage of ruck retainment to the offense.
  2. The animations are of, ther should not be a passive ruck animation when counter rucking with 3-4 defensive players, (this is when the push over should happen) Scenario: The offense takes to long to play the ball they retained, has only 2 in the ruck, the defense counter rucks with 2-4 (a pushover ruck should trigger. At the moment it is almost opposite, there are more 1 defensive rucking player pushing over 2-3 offensive rucking players. This should be more of a passive quick Jackle/steal . (it does happen sometimes) 1 defensive rucking player quick passive steal.
  3. Once the offensive rucking team secures the ball, the counter rucking pushover with 2-5 players should be rare.
  4. There should be 2 button functions at the ruck, steal/jackle button, which if you arrive early would do exactly that, but if you use later, could be a steal, but could also be a (hand in the ruck penalty) risk vs reward. The other button , could be the Y button, once the ruck forms should be a counter ruck attempt, this would factor in how many you have added to the ruck. If you did not add enough counter rucking players and the offense has more support at the ruck, if you attempt the counter ruck with Y you could be penalized with some kind of rucking penalty, be it (coming in from the side or a crocodile roll), the animation would not have to be there, just a be penalized for trying to counter ruck , when there is no chance to win the counter ruck.
  5. But the main point is the animations are reversed , if there is to be counter rucking this should be the 2-5 man pushover animation, not adding 4-5 and then getting a passive steal. That should happen on the 1 vs 1 , or 1 vs 2 situations. Counter rucking should happen if the offense is taking to long to play the ball.
  6. The addition of two extra rucking players, should be used on rare occasions, to slow down play, to give the offensive team more time to line up for a play,. If you have only 1 or 2 in a ruck on offense and retained the ball you should have to play it sooner before the defense counter rucks with 2-5 players. So that is the reason for the extra 2 rucking players, to give the offense more time to play the ball, that should be its function, and to help defend against a defensive counter ruck, should the defense try to counter ruck. The game has it all , just need time to retune. The addition of 2 more players at the ruck, will change the mechanics. So more tuning will be needed to get it right, I still applaud Big Ant for the courage to do this. 2 more in a ruck, does change the mechanics, so , lets give them some time to do this. It would of been easier to leave only 3 in the ruck. So I am glad they chose the more difficult path, because in the end if they get it right, it will do justice to the game of Rugby, because the fact of the matter is, although rare, you can add up to 5 in a ruck.
Again, many thanks to the Big Ant team for continuing to tune. We will get there.

Cheers and salud

I agree, give them time to do this. If people are getting impatient after 2 years that is their issue. I am sure it’ll be fixed up before full release.

On a less salty note: If they did follow your logic (Not that this has not been provided to them since day dot through many many peoples feedback already, but hey) then the 5 man ruck could work very well.

Yea agree 2 years is a long time. But the fact they did this, I believe shows that they are actually trying to improve the game. The much easier road would have been to leave it at 3. So, I have changed my attitude some tours the game, I see it at as more of a hobby (our feedback trying to help the game), since they do implement some changes every week, even though sometimes it takes a step back, overall, it has been progressing, though, it’s been at a slow pace. Players do have to learn to play the game as Rugby as well and not just smash the bind button. For example, the holding button does help on offense with the current update, but I bet 80% of players are not using it. The idea is even though you have the option to send 5 into the ruck, most of the time you will only have to send 1-3 depending on what side of the ball you are playing. Many times, on defense, I send 0,
Pick and go’s must be added as well, so that quick ball counters the occasional slowing down of the ball of adding 5 to the ruck. Let’s see what happens next Wednesday. I get the feeling it will be the best build to date.

No I did not ā€œsort of say there shouldn’t be an optionā€. Those words are not present at all.

I was just pointing out to those who wouldn’t accept a meter as an option because they aren’t there in real life, that other existing things in the game are like meters already (other pieces of UI that aren’t in real life).

I was making a point about non-real UI elements already existing, not stating that there should be no option but a meter. I hope that clarifies things.

Yeah, I understood what you meant correctly then :slightly_smiling_face:

@Lionmaul That’s great that you have that optimism mate, we would all love to see a great rugby union game in the end. Did you take part in the EA? Or did you pick it up when it came to console?

Personally I do not mind the rucks, I find they work mostly as they should if you use it as you would in a real match. Some surprises of course. I do hope they keep improving the logic on it though. Best build to date this Wednesday you reckon? You’re gonna get me all excited over here

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Anyhow @JNT_BA - About Improved Kick Aiming, is this just for line kicks, or for general play kicks?

I’m not happy with what has been happening with the game but credit to @JNT_BA, dev team, and Ross for keeping communication open and releasing a quick update to try and make the game better. They are clearly not just giving up. However, they do need to test much better before releasing an update. Sliders could also do much of what they are doing. They are tweaking a lot of things we could do on our own.

So @JNT_BA could you please request the team put in sliders? Also kicking distances should be increased, which if we had a slider for it, we could tweak to where we liked.
