Rugby 25 Megathread

I play hardest on pc.
This is my priority list for making gameplay fun and realistic, but I think it covers a lot of players’ requests.

  • Implement the rules completely
  • Increase fouls: High tackles, dropped balls on tackles, forward passes, penalties on rucks.
  • Improve phases: repair the scrum, more complex lineouts, more challenging penalty kicks (wind, precise gauge).
  • Improve the effectiveness of special moves (shoulder charge doesn’t work well, sidesteps are useless) and make their effectiveness dependent on PLAYER ATTRIBUTES.
  • Improve up and unders and drop kicks.
  • Implement set plays
  • Improve support runs for the ball carrier. Team-mates should converge and get to the ball carrier’s level.
  • Make AI more dangerous: a little harder to tackle, capable of precise kicks (50-22).
  • Prevent forward players to dive for tries. Only allow dives within 1m from the try line or within 5m from the lineout.

I’d also like to stress that the game really does have its strengths, and I think that’s where a lot of players’ frustration comes from.Graphics, menus, animation, content are very good, and gameplay needs to align with it.
Thanks for the updates.

Game crashed a couple of times around the 70 minute mark, PS5 , difficulty deffo stepped up on hardest with the lower ranked side, not complaining about that at all need the challenge :+1:

Agree with this, also offloads need to be adjusted. It is too easy to pull of offloads and most are unrealistic. @JNT_BA I think this should be adjusted based on the in game passing rating and then also stop offloads from the ground, allows online players to just spam offloads and handoffs to win.

@MaD_Dragon_Rugby
Do you think playing the game on side cam, knowing that it’s more buggy and less developed in certain areas, is a fair reflection of where the game is atm. I know it’s not your fault but for the sake of giving fair feedback, wouldn’t it make more sense to do your videos from behind cam. A lot of people are watching your videos and I think a lot of your issues, is more intense on side cam than behind cam. I play behind and it’s totally different game than what you are showing people.

PS. On that note, I would recommend BA remove side cam all together because obviously they are focusing their gameplay improvements from Behind Cam…

I like that @MaD_Dragon_Rugby is using side camera.

Haha. I also like the side cam but it’s sooooo broken… Behind cam gameplay just so much better

Don’t get me wrong. I also love playing side cam but if it’s broken it’s broken. Why play on a camera angle that don’t give you pleasure. It feels like people are complaining about stuff on side cam that I don’t expierence on behind cam

@JNT_BA What is the current gameplay situation regards to different cams.

Oh yes for sure! running lines and support lines suck atm, backline positioning is terrible

Yeah, I get you.
Game is broken anyway, whatever camera you choose.

MAIN THINGS TO FIX

Rucks - you need to put 5 into a ruck to secure it and seems random on whether you win the ruck or not. If you enter a ruck and the oppo doesn’t have anyone there then you should be able to steal the ball. A lot of it needs a revamp and a new look.

Scrums - theres no favour for the team with the scrum, there should be an advantage to them to keep the ball and should be harder for oppo to steal it furthermore the system rarely works and isn’t user friendly at all

Kicking off the tee - one of the most frustrating things is lining up a kick and powering it up and flicking up instantly just for it to pop up a metre and go no where

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Competitions:

  • With custom competitions you should be able to name them to be able to tell them apart from others as at the moment its just ‘competitions’ and would be cool if you could add custom logo for the comp.

Career:

  • International teams when selecting team should be 38 players instead of 30, more realisitic and you have lack of depth when players are low on stamia and with carded players
  • Additionally when players get injuried or between games of a cup (week 1 and week 2 of six nations for example) should be able to change the squad drop players and call up new ones.
  • In European Cup you CAN NOT play teams from your domestic league i.e. Saracens wouldn’t play Harlequins if they were in the same group

So the league live games all have some good attacking gameplay. Every attacking player has a running line. Automatically selected every play, or you can manually change. But it Gives you clear options, players moving onto the ball, some hard lines, some deep. Surely using this, with basic union forward pod play and out the back for the backs would make the game so much better. And if the ai is utilizing this then it would at least give the impression the ai is intelligent. Rugby 22 had a decent system with the selections of basic structure. Selecting 2 options for a game, but being able to decide where my forward pods are in relation to the ruxk or my playermake is so good. Id love so much more depth than this, but im a rugby nerd. I feel like just some of this basic stuff would vary the gameplay and make it fun.

I also feel for defence. Being able to change line speed would be good. If you have a numerical advantage then up the line speed and blitz, or if im short, slow down and drift using the touch line as a last defender. Again, having the ai do do this would add varying gameplay and give us the imlression the ai is good.

So for me the videos have a few purposes.

  1. I enjoy making content about rugby gaming, and rugby 25 is the latest rugby game out so want to cover the updates.
  2. To try an make entertaining videos that hopefully people enjoy and can escape their own lives for half hour a week.
  3. Its a fun way to provide “live” feedback to BigAnt, on how the game currently looks and plays from a customer perspective rather than in in-house game tester, and the guys at BigAnt can watch the video or clips to see exactly what went wrong, as opposed to me writing a paragraph of text on here, that they might know know what I mean or how to replicate it.
  4. To give my completely transparent and honest thoughts on the game, and in turn potentially help someone else decide whether its a game they would want to pick up.

So the videos try and combine all those things into 1 package.
The choice of using the sideline camera in the videos is because that is how I as a person have played every rugby game ever. You can go through my full content catalogue, any “end on” is only ever for testing purposes, but i dont find it fun. “End on” to me feels like cheating, you can see all of the pitch, you can kick to space behind the AI with ease, you can run gaps in defencive lines so much easier. Ive said numerous times in videos, “playing the game in end on [in my opinion] is playing the game in easy mode”

Im fully aware in the social media scene that being negative is always a bigger view pull, than being positive, thats just the state of the internet in the modern day. But playing on side camera isnt some purposeful attempt to put the game in a bad light for more views. Ive certainly become far more cynical about the game post launch, but thats mainly because to me the gameplay changes keep feeling worse than it was in EA :joy:
But the videos arent designed to make the game look worse. I COULD record 5 matches, and edit all the worst bits together, then post that video and say thats my experience. But i dont, i play 1 match, try to leave as much of it in as possible (except when is just 10 rucks in a row or something else boring) and let the audience ses that experience and decide whether that gameplay was enjoy able enough for themselves.

But theres a couple of other things worth touching on with the cameras. Before Rugby 25 came out I honestly thought about 90% of people played side camera in rugby games, because its the best representation of how the game looks on TV translated in to a game. It was in this very FAQ page where I found out I had been wrong about that my whole life with more people playing “end on” in basically every rugby game ever.
So in actuality whats happenned, is ive stumbled in to basically being one of the only content creators who represents the customer base who play the game side on. Seen other CC’s videos like BearsGamer, Rugby Guru, SammyX2, CW, Odd1x. All play end on. So if you were looking to buy a new rugby game but you dont like end on, you might not even know Rugby 25 has the option of a side camera if not for my videos. But also, if there are bugs caused by side camera, the audience/customers need to be aware by watching the videos these bugs exist, otherwise they are never caught, and then people pick up the game and experience all sorts of problems.

I remember when it got revealed that BigAnt were focussing the game to be played end on. And understanding like 60% play end on, theres some level of logic to it. BUT, ultimately I think its a stupid idea. I cant ever imagine hearing the guys developing a new Forza game say “were going to prioritise how the game works, when only driving in cockpit camera view”. So anyone who plays racing games from a 3rd person view behind the car is screwed, with a broken mess of a game .
Camera angle to me as a consumer shouldnt be prioritised, should be as equal as possible accross the board. And therefor it shouldnt be my responsibility to play a game (that costs money), in a way I dont enjoy, in order for it to be represented “better”, when im part the customer base BigAnt says isnt their priority.

Final point is how much does side camera impact the bugs? There certainly are bugs that are actively worse on side camera, some even exclusive. I have found a good handful of full on exploits, that I have specifially kept out of videos and the FAQ page so people wouldnt exploit them in multiplayer, and contacted the BigAnt guys directly about for them to patch without anyone ever knowing.
So there are issues that come from the side camera. But then there are other bugs, like at Scrums, Lineouts, Conversions, cutscenes. That I just dont believe can be the result of your camera choice. I also play side camera on the PC version, and the Xbox version, and on some updates have WILDLY different experiences. Game feels like it changes from person to person. But to me end on doesnt make it better. It just makes it easier, and so you dont face the issues.

So does side camera allow the absolute best representation of the game, when that camera isnt the priority for BA. Probably not. But the videos are absolutely the fairest representation of my experience as a customer playing their game the way I would play any rugby game. It just so happens my experience can reach 1000s of people. If you can watch my videos and think “this makes the game look really bad with all this broken stuff in it”. Then that thats BigAnts job to fix. BigAnt are fully aware of the channel, fully aware 1000s of potential customers every month watch to see whether they think its good enough to buy. They by no means have to make any changes just to make my personal experience better, certainly not at the cost of other players.
But I play the game duting videos exactly how I would play whether I would make videos or not, and give the most honest representation of my experience playing the game that way. For every 1 of me showcasing the issues, there might be 1000 people playing on side camera that just uninstalled the game because there is too many bugs, without ever contacting BigAnt.
If the gameplay was solid, wouldnt matter what camera anyone was playing on. So hopefully the updates will one day bring the improvement.

I don’t think Mad Dragon is purposefully choosing to play side camera to make the game look bad. Check out the other channels he’s listed. Theres plenty of examples showing the game in end on.

He’s not the only one with the same opinion. You appear to be playing a totally different game than everyone else.

Also, your suggestion to remove the side camera is terrible.

I really hope the game improves as I enjoy the content the YouTubers release. It allows me to see what’s changed without having to play the game myself.

I’ve noticed Bears, and Odd1x have stopped/slowed down Rugby 25 content so it would be a shame to lose Mad Dragon as well if Rugby 25 doesn’t improve.

I like the side camera I use it every game and like that I can zoom with it also

I’m not a fan of behind camera. It makes the game lot easier to play and lot less fun

But they can keep it in as long as side camera is retained
