Rugby 25 Megathread

I dont know if big ant read this thread, but here is an idea to possibly fix the ruck. How about when a ruck is formed a random button combo is generated allow players to join the ruck. For example, ball goes to ground, first player selectable press x, once x pressed circle flashes up, press circle then triangle and so on. This would mean that a players reflexs were what gained an advantage and it would force players to practice and as it would be randomly generated there are a number of different variations that could happen.

Same with scrums. Would it not be simple to have a bar which moved from side to side generating a random area to stop in so again it would rely on a players reflexs meaning those who practice would be good.

Just a suggestion.

I am playing on Playstation 5 and a career mode is currently locked when trying to start a new career. Is this a bug?

Just an idea, but could be cool for lineouts and scrums to have set plays in the way of EA College 25.
Maybe it would make more sense than all systems previously implemented in rugby games ? And maybe easier to code ?

I’ve gone back to playing CF 25 simply because the whole game is set up brilliantly.

Plus, if you know the work around, you can take control of all teams in career mode.

I like to play my seasons out AI v AI. It’s a better game than Madden imo.

Back to Rugby 25, since the latest update, I’ve noticed that when playing AI v AI the home team has a massive advantage for some reason.

I’ve just watched Vodacom Bulls beat Ulster 47-0 in the URC season I’m running. I thought perhaps that was a one off.

But when I went to play out my Bath v Bristol in the Premiership season I’m running, Bath beat Bristol 42-0.

So something has gone wrong again with this patch. Oh well back to CF 25 for me and wait yet another week for the Devs to sort something out. Hopefully they can fix it.

There you go @JNT_BA for some reason the home team in an AI v AI game has a monumental advantage over the away team. This is happening in Play Now and Season modes.

Also there are far too many turnovers in the games. There are no penalties or very few penalties occurring. The only ones that do occur are offsides.

I could go on and on but I’m sure you are aware that other people on here are raising concerns and issues with the game.

I just need to get a good set of sliders for AI v AI on CF’25 now.

I’ll head over to Operation Sports and take a look. Maybe Schnaidt has a good set out.

I have this issue aswell

Personally I find it so much easier playing end on, (the game isnt hard no matter what you do really) but if im playing online im swapping straight to end on because the advantage feels massive in Rugby 25.

Seems to be a common reason people play end on because thats how it is in real life. But it isnt really. its certainly closer, you run in the direction you would run if you are on the pitch (my brain cant handle the spinning camera on posession swap), but for me theres still a huge advantage to just being able to have this view of the entire pitch as you are playing which isnt how it is IRL, you can just pick running lines and kicks exactly where you want, and can even change your decisions on the fly because you just avoid the backfield AI, rather than attempting the tactical kick, where maybe the AI is able to cover and sweep it up. If I play on end camera I feel like I can just batter the AI in to submission, Ive had games were im finishing with >95% territory becuase you can just kick to grass for fun. Along with the shift in button layout to just be ā€œpush forwardā€ makes other things so easy. hitting a drop goal is basically unmissable on end on, hitting a line break is so easy because the gap is right there and you can see where the fullback is for cover, and choose where you want to break though.
Having played with people on the discord and done my own testing, it feels like the more extreme the camera angle is the easier the game plays.
Most people playing on end on probably play with a camera like this:

But i saw people playing with cameras like this:

And I messed about with it myself and having this super high up end on camera gives you so much visual info 100% of the time, the game feels much easier, for online multiplayer especially it feels to me like theres a meta to it, becuase I can put a kick anywhere in to space away from my opponents players and they cant do anything about it.
Whereas on the side camera, you dont have that info available all the time, even on the max FOV im still not sure if they have this bottom right side of the field covered, so for me thats what adds a level of difficulty, and risk. But on top of that, the controls being rotated also make gauging that kick placement tougher too. So takes some getting used to, muscle memory and a bit of skill, especially with drop goals. Not ā€œhardā€ once you get used to it, but certainly harder than on end on.

For me if you wanted to play rugby as close to IRL as possible, then really the camera settings should allow you to play like this:

Which honestly, I think might be really fun to try, actually playing from a players height, you get the closest level of realism, you can still pick some good running lines, you can still see the space in the back field, BUT judging the kicks into that space would require a good amound of skill to land correctly.

But I doubt many people would want to play like that, because the difficulty of getting closer to IRL would be too much for a lot of people, but might be a fun challenge mode or something. One thing I brought up with JNT a long time ago was asking if the space on the field changes depending on camera mode? Logically it makes no sense, but it felt true from a linebreak standpoint, so there must be other factors at play.
So is the space in red in images below the same amount of tangable space to run through?

And the answer from JNT was yes, it has be the same which is what I expected. However, if i do a one off runner on end on camera, i reckon theres a 70% my guy gets through those 2 players untouched. Whereas on side camera, I reckon it drops to maybe 10-20%. And im not sure why, maybe the controls rotating make it slightly trickier for your thumbs to pick a straight line, maybe the AI on side camera move latterally quicker, maybe the AI tackle radius doesnt account for the side camera and therefor they can tackle further away? But I even tested for it a number of updates ago. And was litterally swapping the camera from phase to phase, just doing 1 off runners hitting the gap. And the success rate on end on is so much higher. Havnt tested that in maybe a good 10 updates or so, so may well have changed wit the updates to the AI’s defence.

Even the CEO at BigAnt said he doesnt play Side on because its too hard :joy:

I dont mind how people play, its a video game, best to enjoy it however resonates with you. But there are a number of issues that I do seem to stumble into on side camera, whereas end on is just a challengless breeze.

Feel like ive looked in to camera orientations impacts on the game more than bigant ant this point, hopefully Rugby 27 somes with a VR headset and you see through the players eyes, and I never have to think about cameras again.

EDIT
Decided to have a game using the match I was grabbing screenshots on just as a challenge of how easy kicking is on End On. So rules are, cant run forwards with the ball, cant use hand off, cant use grubber kicks / chip kicks / up and unders, must kick long to space to move up the field, cant score tries or penalites only drop goals.
Deduct about 5 mins of the overall match because I was grabbing the screenshots for the post. But in 75 minutes of a 5 minute match on hardest, I won 24-0 by landing 8/8 goals. 73% posession and 62% territory (if you believe the stats which im not sure if any of them are calculated 100% right), without carrying the ball forwards. Just utilising the end on camera to kick to space repeatedly, then knocking over a drop goal. And the AI couldnt do anything to stop me. (doesnt help the AI is also terrible, and the also random team I had was Fiji who are 85 compared to France’s 88 rating) but its just so easy to not even interact with the game properly and just win with kicks.

And pressing the wrong button can result in a penalty like joining from the side

Custom camera settings would solve everything talked about above. There are plenty of spaces in the menus almost like they planned to have more options. We need sliders for Height and Zoom at least.

From Ross!!

I am overseas ATM but I will be having a big focus on #Rugby25 when I return to the office. The past two weeks has not been good for the game, we will make it up to everyone.

I hope it’s not something tacky like the nameplate thing AFL 26 got. I just want a decent working game

Exactly.. means ppl have to practice to get good

With Ross saying that, or potentially saying that, I shall wait it out another few weeks.

I guess we will see if he puts his money where his mouth is.

Sorry that sounds blunt and direct, and I mean no personal offence, but I’ve seen far too many devs, and people in general let me down.

Let’s see if he breaks the mould.

I hope he does, him and his team, I seriously hope they do, but I’m not so sure atm.

Did he say when he comes back ? I hope it’s not on October 127th

With people that can’t access manage logos, are you guys on console because I can’t access it and I’m on ps5. It’s starting to get frustrating because I can’t edit or share logos. Also I cannot stress how much I want to add the real players to custom teams. All the filter stuff is there for it. I am currently trying to make the British and Irish lions and don’t really want to make all the players. I also want to edit players because some if the players are so far off its better for players to make them.

I really hope the best for this game but is hard to suppory it if ever update is ā€˜updated stability’ when there are french teams not scanned and tons of things missing that you woukd think that would be in the game LIKE SET PLAYS (and please can we get grip socks)

I can’t on Steam too. Kelvin striked again

I’m on PS5, but I think each platform are currently running different builds from how various folk are talking.

So it’s hard to gauge who’s having what issues on which platform, and with which patch currently.

My gut says it’s not Big Ant :ant: themselves. I play Cricket 24, Tie-Break, and their other games such as RLL4. I have such a blast on those games as they are absolutely bosting. (Awesome, good etc)

I get the feeling Ross and the teams hands are tied as to what they can do or allowed to do.

Rugby 25 is certainly the odd anomaly out when it comes to Big Ant :ant: games. I’ve played no end of them all the way back to DB14 and RC3. They are all good so it is certainly a change, sadly, from the normal stuff they develop.

As I say I really hope they turn it around I really do. They have in the past. But for now I will refrain from playing and keep an eye out what happens over the coming weeks.

Anyone fancy a game?

I love how much this game is getting better, went from unplayable on release day to actually becoming one of my favourite games at the moment that I’m sinking hours into.

There’s a few bugs such as some offload bugs where it throws the ball out of the pitch at a thousand miles an hour, but other than that the game is very enjoyable.

Only issues I have is that career mode feels really empty, it’s by far the most fun and involving mode but there isn’t really much to do. Its wrong to compare to a company and game like FC25 that seem to have an endless budget, but their career modes seem so much fuller. You can negotiate contracts in person, or have trophy lifts when you win a trophy, but just in general there are so many fun little interactions that make it extra special.

Rugby 25 looks a long way away from being a game like FC25, but with how much progress this game has had, I can only hope it stays on it’s current track.

-Thank you Big Ant.

Note: I love that we can customise clubs kits and actually if we wanted to make kits for teams if were doing multi-season career modes. This game really has potential.

As if the last 3 months have been acceptable… best thing to do for us would be a roadmap for realistic expectations and we can adjust feedback accordingly.
