Rugby 25 Megathread

When are the issues that we have been asking since early access going to be worked on as this game is not great. Mad dragon video pretty much summed it all up. Or be straight with us and rip the bandaid off what we have is that pretty much what it will be just with tweaks each update?

Hi Team,

Just some feedback: High Tackles.

This below is an example. Coach Career. PS5. No Yellow or Red Card Issued. Penalty only.

Injuries - No injuries occurring in coach career for Super Rugby or URC for Realistic injuries setting. Only for Extreme if selected for a match.

22 Zone. Passing sometimes goes in opposite direction. Sometimes when you press a pass to go left on PS5 controller it goes right into touch. Only in 22 metre zones.

Half time Ai Kicking. This example below was criminal behaviour by the Ai down by 35-7 in the match. Hardest Difficulty. PS5 coach career. Just unrealistic Ai behaviour by a rugby player. I accidentally passed to the Lions centre. He had no defenders anywhere near him and he decided to run a few steps and boot the ball into touch. It’s just so silly like they want to lose the match on purpose. Surely this half time Ai kicking can be removed to make the game competitive and realistic. Thanks

Don’t forget that backs in rucks more than forwards and more forwards in the backs at rucks. It’s one of the most non-realistic things for me and the support runners positioned so deep, which resembles rugby league instead of union.

Anyway the conversation feature seems to be partly broken, why they played with this I don’t know!!!

Personally I think we are owed one small thing and that’s a roadmap of where this game is going. If refunds are not going to be given then I think the best gesture they can offer is a roadmap.

Yes I know it means that if Ross gives the go-ahead to do this then they maybe thinking ā€œThey’ll pester and keep asking when’s this feature coming from the roadmap or when’s that coming from the roadmapā€ however you could put a disclaimer saying ā€œProviding everything works out correctly like no bugs after they’ve been fixed then this is what we are aiming for but it’s subject to changeā€.

If a roadmap won’t be given then maybe an explanation as to why it won’t be given? If there isn’t a roadmap and it’s a matter of we’ll just keep correcting stuff until it goes quiet here and social media then fine but an explanation I believe would turn a lot of people around.

@JNT_BA @Lachie_BA I know it most probably takes Ross or someone from the development team / advertising team to give the go-ahead for this so maybe something that could be brought up in the next meeting?

This is my worry, development will slowly be wound down allong with the dwindling fan base. Thanks for your money, cheers all the best. Blatent basic errors are being ignored time and time agsin and patches are being released with minimal to no testing. Its worth noting I think Nacon must take some of the blame for clearly forcing the release of an unfinished game in the first place.

Yes I truly believe nacon pushed for the game to be released when it shouldn’t have been, for sure, I do feel sorry a bit for BA, however now it’s been released I feel it’s on them now to fix what everyone’s been crying out for, a lot of posts, it’s there in GIFs for them to see, yes I think they’d have to replicate there end to debug but they have a starting point with is showing them to get the ball rolling so to speak but right now it feels there’s 3 pieces of the jigsaw and only 2 of them are doing there job

Just seems like there’s a hole somewhere and it needs to be plugged.

Its either that or they genuinely dont know how to implement the improvements/corrections we’re bringing up, which is alarming.

@JNT_BA are we going to see a big patch again wednesday??? Or nothing really since afl is releasing a day before patch day. Please be honest with us Rugby 25 members

I’d honestly be very happy if they took like a whole month to implement and test real improvements:

  • Improve player positioning and passing
  • AI variety in attack
  • Laws of the game
  • Set plays (even if it is simple things like playing out wide, cross kick and crash ball through the middle)
  • High tackles, knock ons, sin bins…
    I’m not including mauls, scrums and line outs here because I feel they would laugh at me as they read it.

In the meantime, they could use wednesdays update to add photogrammetry, show players names instead of positions during matches, update players skills, gripsocks and new kicking tees.

Would be nice to know if any of this is going to happen, we have paid already, they have our money, and if nothing changes we are going to stop playing the game anyway.

Not understanding why people are having so much issues with the passing. I am having pretty good passing and run and pass rugby some real nice offloads, maybe tone down the offloads when being tackled up high. In my opinion the game needs considerable more tuning and a major increase in AI intelligence, where they vary there attacks more using, sidesteps, fends, dummies, overlaps, and tactical kicking. Even the maul and ruck system seem to be a good sytem , just not fully implemented , with more risk and reward, I would welcome more graphs for mauls and scrums, the rucking meters need tuning but they do seem to help. Even Rugby Challenge 3, 4 needed proper rucking sliders to fine tune the rucks to play well. The advantage is Rugby 25 does have better animations for the counter ruck, but they need to be used more and better implemented, the tackle, stand, and jackle the isolated player, even though it is in the game, it is impossible to do, needs to be better implemented, I try to talk about other things about the game like passing but I always circle back to rucks. :blush:

  1. fix the isolated jackle (AI needs to be called for holding at some point)
  2. fix the rucking animations to match, jackle, and counter ruck moments better
  3. make the other offense skills like sidestep and barging more effective
  4. tone down the effectiveness of the fend, make more of timed thing rather holding the right anlog up.
  5. Fix the dummy , and make it faster and more effective, (works only to one side)
  6. Give a bigger reward for playing scrums to perfection ( have the AI colapse for a penalty, or have the AI continue to loss ground of you continue to time the meters well. Bigger rewards so it makes the scrums worthwhile, make the AI more competetive at them.
  7. Add maul penalties to make them more worthwhile, Mauls are reletively boring and the AI is not good at them, no point in adding more players defensively to stop the AI maul (Use some kind of meter for mauls)
  8. For skilled players have I higher trajectory for the Up and under.
  9. Great job on the grubber kicks do the same for the other kicks.

Each time enjoying the game more and more, but still a way to go.

I’ve just tried another match in Play Now. AI v AI, England v Scotland on PS5.

Everything was fine until about the 60-70 minute mark then the game crashed back to the PlayStation Home Screen.

I tried another match this time in my season mode and same thing crashing part way through the 2nd half?

Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Maybe I uninstall the game and wipe my saves and start a fresh?

Or are there any less drastic measures I could try out?

You are experiencing ai draw and passing, using open wingers to score open try opportunities rather than take contact, passing through the hands out through the backs,? If you are then you are playing a different version than other people. If not then there’s definitely passing issues. All I’m getting is contact offload Fest, absolutely nothing like actual rugby and add in zero tactical kicking ( occasional box kicks) but no territory kicking…

Online mode - offloads and handoffs still too easy. Defensive urgency and responsive AI must be looked at. All.games are high scoring, ball possession is king. In rugby games can also be won on good defense and urgency to force attacking sides to make mistakes or kick ball. There is no incentive to kick the ball.out of 22 in this game, easier to run and score 100m tries. And we play in a very competitve online group where guys have been playing rugby games since jonah lomu rugby.

Yeah, it’s not just online either. The kicking game is not strong enough to be worth using online or offline.

It seems to me that PC users are way ahead of PS5 in regards to patches. Am I right to assume that or can anyone tell me any different?

The way I like to play the game, which is AI v AI, is unplayable atm. Game crashes part way through the 2nd half no matter which mode I play.

Question for @JNT_BA or any other dev that may look at these comments.

Do you plan on patch the PS5, or consoles as a whole, up to the versions that the PC are at?

Played on the xbox version today. NZ vs Aus. Hardest, 10min halves. Finished 24-19.

Actually had some fun with it. I slowed down how i would usually play, and played as realistic as possible, not playing any cheese or using the games exploits.

Ai scored 2 trys from my mistakes, poor control of a fb and an intercepted offload. The good try they scored was the usual one up and offload, however they were in my 22, maxing out 5 to the ruck to hold possession so it was a viable and realistic option.

Ai need to be more intelligent, more variety, and need to have a kicking game. The ai kicked twice, both box kicks in this game.

Some animations need tidying up or changing. Side steps are not effective, its too slow. Try scoring dive into getting tackled is so immersion breaking. The played on the ground in a ruck rolling over and handing over the ball in a turnover is ridiculous. Big fan on the automatic breaking tackle animation tho, need more of this sort of thing.

Passing confuses me. Im not sure if its support player positioning that makes it feel off, but something just doesnt feel nice. The positioning is bad, support players always so deep. I dont mind a deep option, but give me some flat hard line options. Wingers need to be flatter 100%. Most well executed offloads actually feel good. Players running onto the ball, nice and flat.

Goal kicking annoys me. Im not a fan of the animation, however i can live with that. But i hate the stick flicking, i hate the floaty ball, i hate the swerve that cant be adjusted or anything, i hate that everyone seems right footed.

Few bugs obviously.
2 knockons that seemed to be ignored.

1 ai lineout, seemed to be a substitute hooker throwing, however he was sat down, and did not throw. Maybe a bug with lineouts when a sub has been made but not completed?

2 times the ai made a break, stopped and made a strange run backwards.

1 pass left from a ruck, went right and into touch.

The last time i played was on pc, and the game felt broken. Not sure if its the latest update or the xbox version is slightly different, but it felt better today. (Still not good btw)

Im a huge fan of rugby league, and i enjoyed league live 3 and 4. So im obviously buzzing theres a new one on the way. But please get this union game to a decent state before abondoning it for new stuff.

THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED IN 1ST HALF.

GAME DOES NOT PAUSE on Series X when going to xbox dashboard. Shocker. Tested this three times with same result.

Oponent took a quick lineout and was penalised for no reason.

Perfected the kick meter, ball went about 5m…

Passes going opposite way to button press from ruck on occasions

Vertical passes

Halfback runs opposite direction off ruck (side camera)

Teleporting players to rucks

Basic basic basic issue. Time incorrect on opening scene. See screenshot below, night game being played at 1pm…

Best looking, worst playing rugby game unfortunately. Seriously half baked and broken to the point where matches are decided by fundamental issues caused by poor development, rather than player input.

Would prefer they make a game that plays well than fluid player ratings…….

So much of this game feels like rugby league live 3&4 but massive parts of it feel more like three tbh
