Rugby 25 Megathread

Righto that will do me. This game is obviously not getting a major update. They are just tweeking minor Things. The game had so much potential.

To think they thought they could release it before the world cup lets you know everything you need to know. We gave them so much time! I don’t know why they even told us it was coming out and help off until 2026 to release it.
I rememer deleting rugby 22 thinking I’ll never play this again…. until EA games make another rugby game I don’t think any of these little companies have the funds.

These guys obviously have only ever played or watched rugby league, the whistle is even league. The tackles look like they have been used from their old games.

First step would be forgetting about photgrammetry and just making the first game that can actually play. What a waste of time and money travelling around to clubs and stadiums to make a flop. Once you’ve made a decent game then you can focus on that the next game and leave customizing for us to do in the mean time.

Has there been another secret update to make the game worse? Or is the xbox version just rough as nails.
First time playing on the xbox since wednesdays update. This is the final tackle stats on a 5 minute game on hardest.


My players missed 84 tackles. Every single carry by the AI is back to Handoff or Sidestep.
Sometimes they are able to perform both actions on a single carry. Followed by an offload, for the next guy to just dodge another tackle with a sidestep.
AI also sprinting to rucks whereas my guys take their sweet time and I couldnt get the ball back.

Issue with kicking from tee has returned where once kicked the ball rotates 90° and the ball flies like a watermelon rolling down the hill.

AI also missed 2 conversions (which dont get me wrong, I like they CAN miss conversions now) but AI were playing as South africa, and Pollard missed 2 conversion from infront of the posts? Maybe on easy they could miss that, or on hardest missing from a touchline conversion, but litterally infront of the posts on hardest is so jarring as basically no international fly half would miss that type of kick.

Weve also got the return of the classic “once AI offload, they become a ghost for 1st tackler” glitch. Which isnt helping those missed tackles as they can litterally walk through the defence.

Also had loads of issues with my defensive line have these enormous gaps because of the 5 player rucks, and the AI can exploit way too hard. The AI attack seems to be able to pick a pass from anywhere on the pitch where the first reciever just runs through 2 defenders (while both my guys dive on the floor not even close to a tackle) and then run atleast 50m up the field before my fullback can get the tackle (which is just handed off anyway) and they run over to score. I had 4 instances of the AI running 80m tries against me from 1 phase and I couldnt do anything about it. And 2 of those tries were by props. How can props still sprint 80m and outrun wingers in this game after multiple updates targetting that exact thing.

Its crazy how different this experience is to playing the PC version on wednesday. Where the AI could barely get the ball off me. Is this going to be another instance of the pendulum swinging too hard the other way as a consequence of nobody liking the last couple of updates. Because if so, were in for another rough week this week.

No colour screens today though, so thats a… win… i guess :joy:

Started messing around in testing, you can pick the ball up with your scrum half and run laterally across the field, and the AI dont move until you run forwards, so you can run 50m sideways before just running around their winger, and because everyone is still the same speed. You are away for a try.

I think could be difficulty level, I was noticing less fend offs and break tackles from CPU, I think playing on easiest I had 28 or 30 user missed tackles, still a debate if that number is too high I’d like to see it under 20 for a 7 min game

I think it maybe be partly due to you playing on Hardest and a mechanic to try and help AI against you, its a basic tactic but probably effective to an extent but really makes stats look bad.

Still crashing for me every game I try and play.

Also after watching Mad_Dragon and BearsGamer’s last videos it sums up entirely how I feel regarding the game at this point in time.

I’m on this bandwagon to the end but it sure is a bumpy uncomfortable ride at the moment.

I’d like to really hope that by the end of the year I can look back and think “Wow, what a game I’m playing”.

However, I am also preparing for the worst if I’m being honest.

I have no enthusiasm, no interest in loading the game up as it is in the state it’s in right now.

I sincerely hope for the best, but like I said, I am planning for the worst.

I’m sure there are different issue’s with each platform,I’m on PS5 Hardest and it plays fine for me tbh might be wrong

Also playing on Xbox Series X and I just had a great game against France. Had to score after the 80th minute to keep the Eden Park record intact! :slightly_smiling_face:

Kicking was as you described and basically broken at the momemt.

But strange, its like people are all playing on different builds even on the same systems and latest updates! :thinking:

Very happy for AFL fans, gutted for Union fans. Would be so cool to have that…
We only have a 0 to 5 stars thing for the coaches, scouts etc, and no clue if there is actually an effective difference between 0 and 5, if it’s doing anything or not haha.

This is just crazy😦, they actually thinking nothing big of Rugby Union, took our money and just moved on, will think twice in the future to buy a Nacon/Big Ant game. This is really sad

Two different teams two different career modes that are different scales. I don’t see how one team working on a game with a much smaller scale of teams, tournaments and schedule adds up to missing out on something. In some places the rugby mode is way more in depth and afl in others.

I only said that I wish we had the same :wink:

I reckon the career mode in R25 is probably the one with more depth a union game ever had.

But tbh, imo, the only aspect where R25 Career mode has more depth than AFL26 (from the AFL 26 screenshots) is just more teams to play with: competitions and tournaments, international games and promotion/relegation for French and Romanian leagues.

Apart from signing players, there are 0 things related to money management

What are the timescales to finally give us competent and enjoyable passing?

When will the AI play ACTUAL union and not lazy league one up runners of the scrum half?

We have been asking for this for some time, when will this very basic and central point of the sport be delivered?

As the videos the YouTubers are putting out has to be killing the sales and potential impulse purchase when people do a Quick Look at recent videos for the game.

Btw @JNT_BA, are there some blocking points regarding photogrammetry ? Are you still waiting for the approval of some teams ? We had maybe less than 5 men teams in two months ? Cheers

Some further feedback on some small fixes which could really improve play online.

  • Offloads are abused atm, for example, you can basically offload to your hearts context until the ball goes loose. I think this should be highly skill dependent, for example, a prop should nto be able to pull off ofloads 100% of the time, while top rates backs should be more successful. I think if we implemented this style system to allow offloads, it would force people to kick more.
    • Online defending - this is both a tackling issue and a defending issue. Can you guys try bring in some tap tackle mechanic and maybe give an onscreen prompt to go for a tap tackle. So many tries online are from 100M out as people just offload until they get some space.
    • I think rucking is generally okay in online play now, much more difficult against high rated teams.
  • As mentioned above, overall positioning needs work as well as picking up the ball. When the ball goes loose from an offload or kick, sometimes the players will kick it even without pressing the kick button. Similarly, I find 50:22s quite easy after a few phases as defensive shapes disappear. I dont think there is a scenario in professional rugby where the backfield has no one back so would love if there was attention towards this aspect.

Overall, online play is relatively stable atm but just full of high scoring games which are just boring and tedious as it becomes an offloading fest, as opposed to the better player winning. @JNT_BA would greatly appreciate if you could pass this onto the team.

AFL has more licensed teams with facescans tbf. Rugby 25 just has extra kits and logos. Way more redheads too :smirk:

Only part of the career mode that is deeper than AFL is the international part … because AFL doesn’t have it :sweat_smile:

Pro-team should be scrapped for this version, BA should work with us and get this game to a decent level, then release Rugby 26 in fall time with new squads and kits etc aswell as pro team (and us beta testers should not have to pay for it)

Did you read the post? For clarity, we should not have to pay (as I said in original post…), however, this game will have 0 playerbase even if issues are fixed and for online play this doesnt work. Steam reviews and most reviews are locked in now. Best case is we get a fresh title with fresh reviews if they can clean up gameplay.
