Rugby 25 Megathread

I love the “I had a dream” concept.
Patch Notes:

  • Now much harder to perform handoffs (joystick down)
  • Introduced AI offensive tactics
  • Fixed passing; after-touch passes are now much harder to perform
  • Improved stability in online games.

For me, the game is pretty good, it has potential, but there are still some areas for improvement.

Lineout tactics

New scrum system

Higher up and under.

Application of all rules: offside, forward, touches in the right place, and more yellow and red cards.

Improve the step and the 360. Add tactics for the back lines. If all this is implemented, we’ll have a magnificent rugby game because, for me, the gameplay is fun. I thank Big Ant for creating a rugby game for us, and it can’t be easy, and I think their first attempt, the result, is more than adequate. Keep it up, guys.

Guys, Ross coming back to the office is really not a good sign: A year and half ago he was the one pretending the gameplay was reasonable, photogrametry has been his year long excuse for delays but still isnt complete, he conned a whole community into buying this crap and then flips off anyone complaining about the game on twitter.

Pretty sure he tries helping the team by coding under the name Kevin too…

JNT, can you tell us if you all plan to add a team selection screen before entering a competition ?

For example, i don’t watch URC so if i want to play this competition, i would like to select one team at the beginning of the season and only play with that team, i don’t want to be able to play any game with any team, it feels like cheating. You can loose all your games with all the teams and still get to play the final with any team and win the competition anyway.
So a team selection screen when entering a competition would be cool, so you could scroll through the teams, see their stats, and even look into their players. If you select one team, you can only play its games, if you select none, the system works like today, you can play any game with any team.

So yeah, that would be cool for when the game will be enjoyable, cause right now it just feels like playing any quick match and it doesnt feel rewarding.

To be fair I did a see a post once that detailed when changes are made to coding other areas within the game can be affected. With that I assume its a balancing act between customer experience and what the game itself allows for, either way I believe the intention from the dev team is grounded towards improving and satisfying their customers.
Be mindful Ross is led by NACON who ultimately have final decision and direction things take as owners of Bigant and its intellectual property.

That is true, changing code in one place can impact another.

But when their base code for many aspects of the game isn’t close to an actually rugby union game, using industry terms to gaslight people into thinking they are being selfish and unreasonable isn’t great.

They wouldn’t have so much to fix from people who actually watch and play rugby which breaks their badly made rugby league in costume game, if it was actually a rugby union game to begin with that wasn’t riddled with problems and lack of accuracy to the sport and how it is played. If they had done a better job through EA and listened to the players, then many of these issues wouldn’t be there to cause issues when being corrected now.

The big problem with the side camera view, aside of the exclusive bugs, is the lack of a mini map. That’s how they do in Fifa (and all football games), even there you’re not able to look at all your team mates and opponents, but with the mini map at the bottom of the screen you can

Im actually a big advocate for side camera as it mimicks what we see on tv. I like to think im playing the game as i would see it in real life. If it was a ‘be a pro’ type mode then id play it end on though

A mini map is indeed a must so we can check the position of the back 3 (attack /defence)

Many times when AI is breaking the line i have no ideea where my fullback is

Just had Ross to the phone.

He is currently in Finland, doing the photogrammetry of the teams competing to the Wife-Carrying World Championship early July in Sonkajärvi.

After May 14 patch, on xbox S. Main points

  1. Ruck turnovers do seem to happen when they should (except for the offensive player being isolated and defensive player tackle, stand, and quick steal is still missing from the game. The animation does seem to match better, but quick steals should be passive, pushovers should be when offense holds ball longer and you overpower the ruck hold. Again would be nice to have two options asigned to the controller button , steal attempt and push over. But over all rucks getting better and better, if you play like true rugby. Holding on penalties should be given to the AI if they are isolated and do not release.

  2. AI is still very weak on hard difficulty with to even teams, I have no fear of losing against the AI.
    Ai should do more steps, fends, and play kicking and better overlap offloads, like the AI in Big Ants League games.

  3. Fend is to overpowering for the User, really no reason to do any of the other skill moves like sidestep, barge, dummies, and spins, Would be nice if these other skill moves would be effective in certain situations, and better then the fend in certain situation, at the moment no reason to do any other offensive move other then the fend,

  4. Scrums , although it is a good system, the reward for playing them to perfection is weak, There should be more scrum penalities on the AI, and more meters advancement if you out play your opponent in the Scrum, Make Scrums exciting again, more risk vs reward in the scrums.

  5. Dummies only work in one direction, but have no effect on the opponent.

  6. High tackles should prevent offloads more but should be more suseptible to the fend, low tackles more effective against fend, but you give up more offloads, the should be a risk vs reward when attempting a higher tackle vs a lower tackle. Depending on what offensive move your opponent does, either the high or low tackle would be the better option, this is how it should work.

  7. UP and Unders (bombs) should have a higher trajectory when executed by a good play kicker. So the player kicking has a chance to rechieve the ball.

  8. Mauls need a better mini system, more risk vs reward in mauls with possibility of being penalized if not playing it well.

Over all I do see the game improving, and it could be a very good rugby game if everything comes together, at times there is very fun flowing rugby, but the AI needs to step it up, if there is no fear of losing, it takes the fun out of it. In saying this, AI improvements must be through smarter AI decisions like Big Ants Rugby league games, not cheap cheats, like, not turning the ball over at the ruck or impossible offloads. Thank you Big Ant team looking forward to continued improvements, and thanks again for adding possibility of 5 in the rucks, this was a great addition for the Rugby purist , and when players learn to use this option the correct way its a great addition. " Even though I can add 5 at the ruck most of the time I only add 1-3"

As an addition, Control Movement (offence/defence) ,set-plays ,mud on players kits would be amazing also for me ! Even that thing where you could watch oposite team stamina was nice so you could plan your next move ,i dont know why we dont have this stuff as basic ,since rll4 was such an amazing game !
