I’ve tried on Xbox and finally a good patch .. no pb of framerate or stability, better Ai, better kicks, for me it’s the best version for the moment .
Still waiting improvments for scrums rucks and game variety, then we will have a good game

Well… in contrast to my experience on PC yesterday, i booted up the xbox after work to see how it faired (version ID is v1.0.3423, not sure if that was the version meant to be out yesterday or today’s hotpatch ID)
And I had a game… that was fun.

France vs Australia Hardest 5 minute halves.
Final score 42-28.

  • AI brought real intensity, saw quite a few really nice choices of passes that picked put the player running a clean line through a gap in my defensive line. Actually saw about 4 “set play” set of passes and worked around me. AI even performed Box kicks that felt tactical, bouncing in to my 5m line while my fullback wasnt there.
  • Box kicking direction been corrected so pushing further away makes the kick go further, so now inverted from the PC version which was an immediate complaint by me yesterday, glad thats fixed (just need to invert the kick offs now and @JNT_BA wont have to listen to me complain about it any more :joy:)
  • AI actually played off a lineout, didnt just go for the maul, actually went to 9, then on to a crash ball 12 carry that caused me all sorts of problems to defend.
  • AI slotted 2 beautiful 50/22’s against me. (Did feel like AI have the ability to kick perfect long range kicks within milliseconds of recieving the pass, which obviously a human player cant do, so pretty unfair, but atleast they took the kick) but from seeing others feedback, seems like i might have had many less kicked against me, could easily see how having 10 in a match against you would be frustrating, especially as players dont always pick up loose ball, so you dont have the ability to cover them well.
  • AI made 4 subs accross the match without injuries forcing them.
  • Didnt have a single incident of ball getting stuck in a maul or ruck.
  • AI took tactical defensive box kicks in their own 22 to clear their lines.

Had to actually sit up in the chair and focus on the game rather than walk over tries, or just put the controller down knowing they were going to “hand off” all the way to a try.

Issues still remaining.

  • Scrum half can still clip through the ruck by being pushed by arriving forwards and kicks the ball out of the ruck.
  • AI offloads are off the scale :joy: the repeat patter of “handoff 1st tackler, offload on second tackle” is leading to some outrageous offloads to players i didnt even know they could pass to. It doesnt even feel like a target pass, more like them playing the offload HAS to be recieves by the next nearest player.
  • couple of target passes being thrown to ground and bouncing along the ground to touch
  • issue with commiting 0 players to a ruck. The game seems to expect you to put in a minimum of 3. So if you put 0 in a ruck, a lot of the time the tacklers stand offside waiting for you to add them in the ruck, but because you dont they stand offside and give away a penalty even though you arent playing as them, and just simply didnt compete at the ruck to keep more people in your defensive line.

Hopefully its not a one off match, because other peoples feedback on here sounds like a much worse experience than what ive had today, ill play a couple more games over the evening.

I also found out today, that the dummy pass option if times correctly activates the sidestep animation and beating a defender. I didnt know that was a thing. I feel like that may actually be a better system than having the action on the analog stick, because it takes a lot more finesse and timing than just flicking a stick.

Oh also, name cards at the bottom of the screen still dont work… ill mention it every time, because i still dont see how thats broken.
But playing the match as France on the xbox. Not only were opponents name card not on screen. But 0 of my own players had their names at all? Not in open play, not scoring a try, not when scoring a conversion. So somehow they may have gone further backwards, than alrwady broken :joy:

Game 2 had another fun game. Wales vs New Zealand, 5 min halves hardest. 28-7
Most of what I mentioned above still applies.

  • New Zealand actually run an inside switch set play which means you have to defend really tight which is fun.
  • Did have a ball stuck in a Maul, so not completely fixed.
  • Have Evidence AI 50/22 is actually a cheat. One of their players was mid sidstep animation when punting the ball for a 50/22, so it feels like a pre determined kick, before they receive the ball and can override any of their actions. They scored five 50/22s against me, and 2 of them the ball actually just phased through my player rather than it charging down.
  • High tackles are back aswell though, havnt seen one of them in a long time

Couple of other bits noticed.

  • Penalty Kicks , the label for applying power with Y still says “kick off” over the button as I assume its brought over from the dropout/kick off set piece. Could change to “punt” or something as its not really a kick off.
  • AI knocked a ball dead after I kicked the ball and it bounced behind their try line. Resulted in a 5m scrum to me. But result should be a dropout. As the ball was taken over the try line by my action, even though it was their fault the ball went dead.
  • might also be specific to xbox version. But quite a few issues with momentum after getting a loose ball, either by a catch or picking the ball up. Both me and the AI seem to need to stand still for a second after getting the ball before running. Wouldve got a brilliant crossfield try, ball bounced off the ground perfectly to chest height to my guy running on to the bounce, but once he got it, he stopped dead, then started building up his sprint again which was enough to be caught by a defender that didnt stand a chance.

But overall, this feels much more enjoyable than what I played on PC yesterday.

Did you get XBOX patch? For me I have v1.0.3366 on xbox no updates

Xbox patch is out, just downloaded it on my console. Xbox One build (not Series S/X) now at v1.0.3423 - reboot your console and start the game again, should prompt you to download a 700mb ish update.

I played now my first match after the latest update and I had a very good and intense game

I was playing France vs Ireland hardest difficulty 7 min
I was France and it was an good game the AI actually playing good rugby they kicking way more to win field like box kick or 50/22 that they do very good kicking way more .. so Ireland was leading the game 15-7 and I made a comeback to lead the game 17-15 at the end soo onlybfew min left and then I was shocked wat happend in the 80th min Ireland AI was on attack and I was defending my best and suddenly the AI decided the fly half to take a drop goal and win the game so they did it the AI actually took a drop goal and won me 18-17 at the end :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
So just want to say its getting there I know still alot a work but I actually enjoyed it @JNT_BA :call_me_hand:t2::call_me_hand:t2:

Please BIG ANT the defensive placement of the AI has become too easy, we can almost cross the field without being tackled the AI runs next to it or does not fill the holes, can you for the next updates solve this problem in order to have a great challenge in very difficult mode and to be able to have fun to pass the lines and score tries after 2 passes and that the closest players tackle us instead of running next to

Quick note, AI v AI attacking team completed a 50/22. First one I’ve ever seen. They then scored from the resulting line out.

I’m noticing a marked increase in the kicking game including some good box kicking.

Good improvements imo. I’m on PS5 btw and I got the update earlier. A step in the right direction for the AI imo.

Edit: Knock ons are clearly still not registering as I’ve seen a player clearly drop the ball forward and play has been allowed to carry on.

We know the game is far from finished but this is the best it’s been since April and very playable, even fun. If this game had released like this in Feb, Big Ant would have not tarnished their reputation.

Give us sliders, roster customization, pitch markings, full competition options and call it a day.

ONE IMPORTANT URGENT FIX @JNT_BA user kicking needs to be changed urgently as I can’t do the same distance Punt the CPU does. Hotfix?

There will be no hot fixes for anything this weekend, while we hear what people thought of this week’s update as the weekend has the most feedback.

So let’s talk about the future.

Some changes have already been prepped for next week. Some QOL changes and some long standing requests. Teams editing will not be in there. While yes it is still planned it will not be soon as that requires lots of work to work this unfortunately is more complicated than “unlock it” this will be a longer term change.

So what have I been looking at and what has been worked on. Now these are not on a time frame but conversion kicks are getting some updates to how we give visual feedback and some of the mechanics, I’ve seen all the flub kicks and people really not understanding why. Scrums are being looked at while will not be getting a “full overhaul” from the ground up but will be getting some updates again to show what actually happens, yes I see all the times people just get into them and go :person_shrugging:.

If you could fix

The ai breaking every 1st tackle
Defensive positioning
Defensive ai
Attacking ai
Attacking shape
The kicking game
Vastly improve rucking scrummaging lineouts

Implement rules properly with a greater variety of penalties, side entry, neck rolls, collapsing mauls etc

Add a variety of set plays that are contextual rather than on rails to allow us to choose when and who to distribute the ball too

Make it so that all attacking players start running lines when the ball is passed out of the ruck rather than just the player receiving the pass to eliminate the first receiver being 5 yards in front of everyone else

We might have a solid base to build on

Patch Feedback. PS5 Coach Career

Ai kicking a lot more for field position. Great to see.

Major issue I have Identified is it’s hard to get any control of your Fullback when defending or putting him in field position if you think the Ai is going to kick downfield. Even when Ai makes a line break in some instances I can’t get control of the Fullback even when pressing Buttons.

Also the Super Rugby Pacific Grand Final in Coach Career shows Top 14 and reference to it being played at Stade De France. This match was at Waikato Chiefs Stadium in NZ. Thanks

Also the Referee making bizarre “Held Up” decisions when the ball is grounded in the in goal areas. This occurred twice in a 5 min period.

I too find the game very enjoyable today compared to its release in February. Even if it’s slow, as long as there are updates made, it’s great as long as the game evolves in a nonsensical way. It’s a shame because the Steam rating doesn’t represent the quality of the game, as it deserves better. I enjoy the game. For me, the urgent needs are:

The AI ​​should no longer break tackles automatically.

The step and 360 should be improved because they are unusable.

Change the penalty conversion system

Add more penalties

Increase the power of the kicking game.

@JNT_BA thanks for this feedback, I think this is what we as the community were looking for, BA communicating with us and sharing what is being worked on, and what is being planned. Please do not stop with the communication, even if you cannot disclose everything.

I also feel the update was positive, there are still major general bugs, which everyone has pointed out.

I would be very happy if the current mechanics with issues can be addressed and fixed, thereafter new additions can be looked at. Explaining some of the mechanics and what needs to happen will also help alot. For example the rucks, if you do the tutorials it seems straight forward, but in a game, there is no logic behind it, and it does not work as intended. I wont go to in details, as this has been mentioned by alot of players, the ruck system needs to make logical sense. Hopefully rucks will be relooked and tweaked very soon. Glad to hear scrums are getting some attention, mauls also need to get attention, balls get stuck in the mauls 8 out of 10 times, and it should feel more like a maul where it can be turned and actually get collapsed will really make it feel true to the game.

Then some smaller mechanics that needs tweaking, the Punt kick in the tutorial work great, but in game you do not get the distance or time to do a punt kick in general play, bringing in a trajectory arc like you have for the box kicks will also be welcomed. The held up over the try line, also needs to be changed again, so that you can score even if you get tackled, maybe a button for the defending player should be implemented to hold up the player or to try and get between the ball and the ground. The TMO reviews clearly shows the ball being downed, but then gets called Held Up.

Addition in future: Lineouts, if you can add more to lineouts, like fake jumping or moving the lineout, not sure what you can do at this point. Then setplays or just the options to changing the running lines from scrums, rucks and mauls would be great.

I have new hope and looking forward to next week’s patch.

Hello BA Team,

Pick and go with the scrum-half (or whoever is playing that role) from the ruck is not allowed when attacking to the right in the side camera view. It is allowed when attacking to the left.
This has been the case for the last two patches. At least on PS5; I don’t know if it works on other platforms.

Not sure if this has been flagged already, but since yesterday, trying to hold on at the breakdown renders your forwards unable to enter the ruck (PS5)

You havent finished downloading the game.

No mate, I don’t play online, the one time I tried it was a farce. It used to work occasionally when I was completely isolated, though at times the opposition would steal the ball immediately anyway! Now, though, it just seems to freak the game out.
