Rugby 25 Megathread

I won’t, I only have RL26 on PS5 :stuck_out_tongue:
I really like RL26, but don’t know League enough to have so much focus on it

As a refund is probably out of the question, a free (or heavily discounted) digital download of RL26 would be a nice olive branch for those of us who shelled out!

@Bapean I’m assuming the only way to get these on console is with custom teams downloaded from the fanhub?

Unfortunately not, it is only for PC as not made with BA tool

@Bapean oh that’s a shame as they look really good. Hopefully us on console get 25/26 update from BA with all the new kits

Just to be sure , you do know you don’t have to add 5 at the ruck on hard difficulty most of the time I only add 2-3 on offense and on defense I will add only 1 or 2 in the ruck until the right moment. Not sure if you are complaining about the 5 man ruck possibility, this should be in the game because it is in the game of Rugby, even if it is rare. Petitioned for the 5 man ruck for while brother. You can fast ball at the ruck and even pick the ball up with a forward and go with only 2 players in the ruck for a faster ruck play. Just got to be careful not to go button press crazy at the ruck, binding players like crazy, the ruck still needs lots of work, but they have improved throughout the updates some. I like to have control of when I send 1 or 5 into the ruck.
But agree there could be a better quick ball play system.

Big Ant please never go back to a 3 man ruck system, because rugby is not a 3 man limit in the ruck. Players have to learn to not go button smash crazy when binding. Or worst case create an arcade mode and simulation mode , arcade with 3 players in the ruck maybe automatic, and a simulation 5 man ruck system, but build the core play around the “possible” 5 man ruck system.
Because it is huge part of real rugby to determine when it the right time slam the ruck with more players.

In saying this, not sure if the 2 player mode is not allowing fast ball, and you are forced to add 5 to the ruck, to win it, If that is the case that needs to be fixed, but not by removing the capability of adding 5 to the ruck. I play mostly against hard, and hardest AI and I feel like most of the time I only add 2-3 in the ruck offensively, and 1-2- defensively, with the occasional pile on in the ruck for the push over if they are taking to long on offense to play the ball.

When Union?

To each their own. This is why options are nice.
Maybe an option for 3 or 5. Or a rugby sevens were they really only use up to 3.
I agree that positioning of the players is not great
But that there is the problem, not the “ability” to put up to 5 in the ruck. What’s the old sports saying “if it’s in the game, it’s in the game”. If you remove this it’s a cop out in my opinion. For me part of the strategy is deciding when and how many to add to the ruck. Rucks in real rugby do control the tempo of the game, and they should not dumb down the rucks just so the positioning of the players are better, they should keep working on the player scripts so that the positioning of players is better ,that is were the problem is. As an example the newly released JL game, added 5 back in the rucks,(had 3 before) and it plays much better than its Rugby challenge 4 predecessor. Again, even though I only add 4 or 5 in a ruck maybe 20 to 30 percent of the time.

It’s also extremely important to have and use pod formations, fb positioning, and set plays to put the players in the right position , we should be able to control all this manually, in Rugby 25 you can do this a little bit with the forward positioning strategy, but not like RC4. The formation is much different when trying to go out wide then when your trying to pound it up the middle. And we should be able to control this.

Not so sure it’s a complete placebo, because plenty of time, it was taking a while for Ai to pull te ball out of the ruck, and I decided to slam the ruck with more players and created a push over.

Also, do this test, hold on to ball at the ruck longer without playing the ball with 2-3 players in the ruck see what happens, if you take to long the Ai will add 4-5 and turn the ball over by pushover or steal, pushover makes more sense but the end result is the same. I think player positioning and ruck animations are more important to fix then going back to 3 in the ruck.

Sorry, don’t agree, when we say 4- 5, can be 4 in the ruck not always 5. Watch any game of Rugby on any side of the hemisphere. There are plenty of 4-5 going into a ruck moment, it is part of the game. The problem is not with how many go into the ruck, because you control the amount that goes in. 1 tap one goes in, 2 taps two go in , 3 taps three go in, up to 5, You control this. Limiting the amount of players in the ruck may help some in player positioning, but what needs work is player scripts and positioning. This is where the problem is. Lets just agree to disagree. I will alway push to have ability to add 5 five in the ruck , until in real rugby it is ruled illegal. And if that ever happens , it will change the dynamics of rugby. Agree with more quick ball mechanics should be added, and the ability to offload from the ground. That would be a great addition, and it is like the ability to send 4-5 into the ruck in real rugby. “If its in the game, it should be in the game” .

Yes, that to , but the game must have the art of counter rucking which many times involves 4-5 players, check this out and see how many players are involved in most of the highlights. This action this moment in rugby is a great moment, counter rucking in rugby , depending on when it happens in the game can be as satisfying as scoring a try.
Well, at least for me.

Cheers

Yes it is rare, I have seen it in Rugby 25, but the rare time it does happen, it should be more of a pushover animation rather then the RC4 passive automatic possession , but yes agree it has to happen about as often as tries, has to be the right time and right moment. I think there should be a separate function/button for stealing the ball and counter rucking. Choosing when to do each would either lead to Successful turnover or foul, or failed attempt. Big Ant if X is for stealing Y could be for counter rucking. And there should be better mechanics for quick balls, like offloading from the ground. And a better system for pick and go’s, this would balance out the rare moments 4-5 are used in the ruck. I think this game has a potential to do it they just have to figure out the mechanism for it. Ruck infractions are a must as well. Here is hoping they can continue to improve.

Too many projects at the same time I guess. Unlucky for us that R25 was the worst of them. Still hoping that JNT brings some magic

I really hope that we see pods and better attacking structure with proper running lines off the pods. My concern is that there was an attempt at this in EA2 however it was so ineffective that you never made any ground. One of my biggest annoyances with the game is the lack of forward momentum. Forwards especially should be able to use their strength and leg power to drive through tackles and make ground. The pods and attacking structure is going to be so ineffective if there’s no momentum in tackles and AI defences don’t make mistakes when outnumbered.

I think the only hope this rugby game has is some sort of No Man’s Sky situation where they continue to patch it for 5-10 years.

If so, I’m sure it’ll follow the current pattern of: (using punt kicking as an example)…

Hear about issues
Ignore for 4 patches
Accumulate more complaints
Have first go at patching it but obsess about something not complained about much (like the arc)
Introduce other issues like laggy jankiness
Fix laggy jankiness
Wonder why people still want it fixed
Ignore for next four patches
Accumulate yet more complaints
Have next go. This time focus on speed & control of reticle or how it works for side-cam.
Introduce more jankiness, maybe even a glitch or two
Next patch fix that again
Introduce less frequent patching to “get things done”
Accumulate your third lot of complaints about distance
Receive several comments that the League game has better down field range.
Go silent and/or busy. Appear to ignore at any rate
Laugh with Valhalla or Bapean.
Introduce less frequent patching to “get things done”.
Eventually hope a random bug gets introduced that somehow stops the flyhalf moving forward and also extends kicking range.
Pat yourself on the back.

After re-reading this, I realize I’ve been too hard on Hello Games with No Man’s Sky. They inched forward, fairly slowly, but most times forward.

Big Ant have been amazing with Rugby League, but the Rugby team have gone backwards almost as many times as they’ve moved forward.

@Valhalla_Vagabond on the forward momentum I can see what you mean about RL26, it is miles better than R25 and the momentum in tackles does seem to either go forward, backwards or sideways, which is great. However if they do bring this into R25 I’d want to see new animations with the ball carrier going into contact lower. The players in the contact area in RL26 always seem to be very upright. (Never played Rugby League in real life and only just started watching a few clips so don’t know if this is how it’s meant to be). What I’d like to see is a new animation where you press and hold L2 and the ball carrier has a short burst of acceleration and goes lower with the shoulder to drive through the tackle. As for the tackle area agree I’d like to see the defenders able to slow down play by holding down the player/not rolling immediately. In the same way I’d like to see them change the way the holding on works. It’s so backwards that currently you get tackled, place the ball and release and then have the option to hold on. Looks really odd seeing the ball get pulled back into the ruck. IMO it should be get tackled, roll and then press a button to release the ball. Release the ball before your support arrives easy turnover, hold on too long and the opponent can jackal and win a penalty. Time it right with your support and you get quick ball.

@Valhalla_Vagabond oh yeah if it means getting better momentum than what we have now then absolutely get it in. You do get players going into contact upright in union as well. Those RL26 animations would actually lend themselves nicely to held up tackle.

Yeah, nothing wrong with that at all. Sometimes the only thing that lifts the mood in this thread.

Hello Games developed a game called No Man’s Sky. It was ridiculously flawed and lacking in content on release and gradually has been worked on and improved with relatively constant patching for 9 years since the 2016 release. It’s a prime example of a developer continuing on until they’ve actually fixed their game, no matter how long it takes.

Also makes it a solid comparison to what we’re going through with this Rugby release.

Maybe Big Ant doesn’t think so though. Maybe “kinda functional” is enough with this game and Rugby League deserves updates that actually do what they say they’ll do.

The difference is so night and day that even that isn’t a strong enough comparison.

Was my League money better than my Union money when I bought these somehow?
