Rugby 25 Megathread

Is anyone having luck winning rucks?!

On any skill level, turnovers almost never happen. Perhaps 1 possibly 2 in a game.
Cannot seem to retain ball at rucks to build any phases because the AI keep pushing my players over.

When defending, in spite of spamming B, players do not enter the ruck.

Am I the only one? Do the devs not see this issue too before issuing the patch?

Ruck play appears to have gone backwards.

Platform: Playing with latest patch on PC through Steam.

Coming from tiebreak which didn’t release or have sliders for a good while and now it has them the game is way better , I agree I love sliders and should be in all sports games… Yea they can’t leave passing and I’m sure they know it’s not acceptable level… Ruck’s i personally like rugby 22 system and a similar system here would Go a long way to improving the experience. Funny you mentioned rugby live 3 I just redownload that yesterday and rugby 22 until this gets in a decent place. Hopefully today’s update is a improvement…

On xbox im finding pressing B three times followed by X has been working well. Having trouble getting players to commit at times, but this seems to work.

Just a little comment on the latest patch (steam) (hardest settings)

The passing has most definitely improved. Spinning the ball wide is al ot more accurate and i could more easily made outside breaks int he 13 channel. There was still the odd pass that flew into touch with the winger, but there was definitely a noticeable improvement in the passing.

The rucking still seems the same, which is a little disappointing. If it could just be balanced, where say between 12 - 15 plus phases and the probability of a turnover has to massively increase if you are driving them back and dominating tackles (as it would in real life).

Also, more knockons are being applied correctly now, which is a good thing.

As someone who really appreciates the game, i’d just like to thank the devs for their efforts. i really wish some people would show a bit more patience as it is clear the devs are doing their best, andwith a few more tweaks the game will really shine.

Regarding penalties, there should be less offside, and more ruck penalties.

Im finding pressing B three times to commit players, then X works for turnovers. Maybe punishing button mashing in this instance can result in a penalty, itd be more realistic as teams/players get more desperate, rather than the high number of offside penalties at the moment.

Penalties could include:

Attack/defence:
mashing B = Sealing off the ball
Mashing X = Hands in the ruck

Defence:
Mashing Y (currently tackler commit) = tackler not releasing

Attack:
Mashing X = tackled player not releasing

This can help the defending team slow the ball in the ruck, but also result in advantage being played to the other team or a penalty.

And 10, 12, 14, 20 and 24 team options. Essentially intervals of 1 team as is currently in game, but with a much higher maximum

Sorry strategic kicking, defense and attack positioning are skill issues…

I’ll give you the rucks but nothing else on that list needs more than tweaking. If you don’t like it there’s plenty of other rugby games to play my friend

50-22 used to work during EA

Following today’s patch, it seems that the contest in lineouts is possible

Drop goal is possible but the animation doesn’t look so good as the kicker is not in the pocket

Cross pass by kick are possible, I already achieved some

But there is indeed still a lot to improve in every aspects… When Patch ?

Just curious, has anyone had a player sent to the sinbin yet?

You’re just confimring that you didn’t play the EA bro…relax, its just a video game

There is no support play when the ball is passed to the backline. As soon as the center gets the ball and makes a break to try and score, there is still no support. The winger is nowhere to be found. Many times the ball gets passed to the left or right. It ends up going into touch.

What system do you have RLL3 for? If it is for steam, someone downloaded an awesome slider for it, It has been a few years since I downloaded it , should be able to google it, but helps make the game what it should be, you can tweak everything how you like it, most Indepth slider system I have ever seen RLL3 plays great. Yea, I like Rugby 22 rucks, has a little of everything, sometime quick ball 1 player ruck sometime your sending 5 players on rare occasion in to control the ruck, it has so many variation. And the jackal works great. Lots of folks don’t even know its a split second thing the jackal to gain advantage in the ruck in Rugby 22 on both offensive and defensive side. If they fine tune Rugby 25 system and add ability to add 2 more to the ruck, add holding on and improve the isolated Jackle, could be a cool 3 button system, where each senario is different and has different advantages, I like how if you hold the shoulder button and B on a tackle straight on you can do a standing tackle, that should put you in a better position for the steal/Jackle. Although it is easier for the offensive player to fend you. This is a great risk vs reward system if implemented correctly. The high and low tackle system of RLL3 was great , just was not implemented well on standard settings, with the sliders you can tune this to perfection.

Sadly I’m in console (playstation) so no sliders for RLL3 , sadly but it still plays good enough for a career mode which is what I play . Yea 22 was actually a decent game just so much screen prompts and writing everywhere which is bit annoying. And I have no idea how to get more angle in my goal kicking, I’m missing some absolute sitters… Annoyingly I actually really want to start a career mode on this but currently just can’t face the gameplay…

Online Opponent received a yellow card yesterday but i am not sure if the player was removed  looked like a sub annimation :man_facepalming:t2:

Come on man, im not saying that the option for more depth and set plays wouldn’t be nice, but if you have issues attacking, especially now with the latest patch, then its a skill issue.

I’ll say it once more, you have to pick up and go and hit in tight at the rucks. if you do this, then big gaps open up in the midfield. You should also hold the pass button for long throws or double tap it for straight short passes. Anything other and you risk interceptions etc., This is how the game wants you play. If you think they’re going to rewrite the entre code to be more like rugby 08 at this stage then you’re going to be disappointed.

@MrBacon, love all the points you raise, the differentiation of look and stats between players is vital for overall feel of the game. The players also look very similar in their body shape - Union is for all shapes and sizes, which this isn’t yet portraying but arguably get the game play right before the art element is what’s needed. All other points 2-8 make total sense and (for the Devs) i concur with these thoughts for their trending.

After 2 - 5 times going backwards in the tackle (behind the gainline) a team would have “lost their momentum” and usually look for a kick of some description, especially at the top level.
The offside in defence needs a look at, I have been able to stand in the passing channel / fully offside when defending (which I have done a lot of) and not draw an offside penalty, which is funny for a time, then gets a little silly - think the Italians against England in the 6N game a few years back.

Lionmaul, AI single pass and rucks, 100% agree need modifying. Sliders would be a great addition, but if the game can be made effective for all levels through the difficulty selection, sliders wouldn’t necessarily be needed?

@FilthyBandit, YES! Could make these element enforced above a certain level / difficulty? Make it alterable in the game settings? So that those learning the game or that aren’t regular gamers / rugby fans arent put off by not understanding why button mashing isn’t working? But those subtleties would improve the feel of the game.

BonnotXV, agree with you that there are a lot of areas which need adjusting, but the foundation is there, it holds promising shoots from a gamers perspective.

Definitely needs the ability to enter a defensive and offensive strategy for a team, set starting positions in attacking shape, set running lines, pod structure. Like the fact the forward’s field split and defensive pressure can be adjusted with the D-pad in game, which still doesnt make much difference with the whole stats not seemingly being that well employed at the moment, but having ability to set strategy before a game starts and tweak in-game will be a marked improvement.

BA Team - the comparisons are probably getting annoying to games which you may not have developed. Probably easier to take mechanics from AFL 23 or RLL 4 and apply them to Rugby 25. That being said, if you are able to take the “good bits” out of the other historical Union games and combine it with your licencing and sports video games knowledge then Big Ant will be able to firmly add the Rugby Union society to their roster of games - firmly hitting the Ross Symons vision - “What we decided to do, because my passion is sport, outside of [video] games, and so we thought, “Sport is renewable. There’s always a sequel. There’s always another season.”” It doesnt need saying, buuuuuut: gamers can be a fickle but loyal bunch, think of the success of Fifa vs Pro Evo Soccer, get it right and we will all flock back for more and more, get it wrong and it’ll be Tennis and Cricket dev (this thread knows which is the best of those 3 sports). We are wishing and willing you to succeed! We all want you to create a game where we ask ourselves “Where did those last 2 hours go!?”, not “What is going on here?” We all have faith you will do it, keep up the good development, early days since release, big up Big Ant.
