Rugby 25 Megathread

Ok. I’m going to cause a stir but hey, don’t care. This is my take.

The game for me is great n terms of player models (lightyears ahead of RL or AFL and Madden or CFL (college Football) so that I love.

But this is where my love for it stops. These are the issues.

Try scoring motions – need a huge overhaul. Like scoring a layup in NBA 2k, a TD in Madden, a goal in FIFA (what used to be FIFA) one thing these games ensure are the celebrations of having scored the TD/Goal/Backet. That is the icing on the cake after the effort to get to the Rim/Goal/Endzone. Please, get rid of this pathetic generic try scoring where the player dives with the ball in his arm extended out like its stupid as this is not how tries are scored especially by elite player or grassroots. It’s an ugly description to this great game as NFL and NBA and FIFA show, the showmanship or class of scoring.

Attacking lines and Defence lines. Please, please, please have these lines out from sideline to sideline to make the realism of the sport. About 70% of attacks, the team are always bunched up near the ball that when you want to spread the ball out wide, you can’t as nobody is set out there. At least have the Wingers/Midfielders as our AI (non-controlled players) set up outside the attack. Please do this as this should have been fixed since day one and don’t anyone tell me that Rugby Challenge is better because that game had exactly the same problem and was NEVER fixed and still isn’t.

AI line breaks. This is seriously out of control. No matter what, the AI will always break the first tackle and you can have you entire defence out wide (struggling to even do this at times with the lack of control to force players out wide) the AI break/fends my defender and I have to bring in the FB or worse, have another player run back to cover defend but even that is a struggle when the selection of that player goes to everyone but your defender who is the closest to the ball carrier. Someone once wrote me saying it’s the only way for the AI to at least get through to score. That’s BS. In Madden, you have your strongest player strong, your fastest players, fast, and they can always make a tackle, but now and then, with skill, the AI can slip past your defender. That’s the realism of the game, base it on skill level and power an not just blatant unlimited fends, it becomes pointless when the AI makes a break, I have my FB like Will Jordan on 99% yet he gets fended by the AI halfback who is 78% rating. Have the AI smarter, with grubber kicks, chip kicks, cross kicks etc. Make it challenging in that perspective as there is no challenge in just watching the AI roll over all my players on it’s first tackle.

Anitmations is vital as it is in all games. Give me the option to selection my try scoring reaction. Allow me to make a big hit and please stop with the hug tackle that even the RL game does. If one thing Rugby Challenge has over this game are the bone crunching tackles. They are low and look more Rugby realistic. This game has the engine to allow the more realistic animations.

Try scoring – can we PLEASE stop with every try being a dive in the air. Even my Locks are diving for the tryline.

I love the models of the game as it makes the feel a realism more reactionary for me to re-play this game for hours. But, you must compliment it with motions and celebrations to place that icing on the cake.

I know, set plays MUST come in at some point. Please for both attack and defence.

I know the game has all it’s licensed teams which is why you cannot remove players from international teams or official club teams. But why not? It’s simple to remove an entire roster for Madden, NBA 2K, the more elite games. Please allow some room to allow us to update the roster. I know some will say use the community teams. Yeah nah.

Creations – please allow the ability to copy/past current team jerseys. Also, what is up with the Logos when almost 90% we can’t see those Logos they’re blacked out you see just the names. How are we supposed to know what it looks like?

Captains … why can we not have the selected Captain in the selection menu? I selected Cody Taylor as my All Blacks captain but for me, it was showing a different player?

And my last one … in Competition creation … can we please have Pools added to the creation, or a competition where it doesn’t have to have a Finals.

I tried to create the Tri-Nations between NZ, South Africa and Australia with playing each other twice, but it will only allow with a Finals. This is ridiculous. Please fix to allow points table at the end of the regular season wins it all.

Just another thing … can we please fix the running motion … the players look slightly like they are gliding on the grass.

I can’t see why what Rugby Challenge has in terms of player motions that this game can’t take to the next level especially with the game engine used for this Rugby game.

I have more but I’ll save for later.

This is just my suggestion for the next patch for the update.

Agreed, Big Ant are on the cusp of something great here!

Just a couple more implementations especially breaks in plays, more intuitive ai and player ratings/skills coming through and having an impact in game play.

TBH I think game sliders will solve 90% of all these issues as we could then taylor the game to what brings us most enjoyment ie:

More penalties, aggressive ai, more challenging placement kicks and wind actually having an impact!

I have extensively played both RL 26 and cricket 24 and the game sliders have made it a completely customisable experience and literally the difference is chalk and cheese!

Please please implement game sliders!

I just wish we had Sliders for Team Attack and Defence. As a minimum with Team performances.

At the moment if we want a team to be poor defensively we need to edit and adjust every single players tackle skills.,

For instance - Moana Pasifika , Western Force. Zebre Parma. I would like to lower their defence as a whole instead of just individual players.

@JNT_BA,I hope you don’t give up on this game and get the resources required for the amount of work needed to finish this game off. We are finally seeing some decent progress and this game has the potential to be something truly great. This current release should have been the first of the Early Access releases tho

From now on, updates will come when they’re ready.

Three things that have been worked on are Scrums and Mauls to make them more functional and give them more substance to them.

The other thing is passing, this change is quite significant in terms of feel, and I’m not sure how well it will go, compared to what everyone has been playing with for the last… since release basically. It needs more time to get rid of the jank since the major change has been made. I prefer how this looks and how it feels, but I’ll wait for externals to get their hands on it and give feedback before choosing to release it.

Any news on premiership kits and top 14 and pro d2.

Is the player selection (on defence) hard to work on? This one is a big one as it never selects the right player and so I do not change players and let AI do defence otherwise it leads to gaping holes every time. I’d like to be more involved in the defence but feel like a passenger. Thank you.

I’m surprised passing has been changed. IMO this was something that worked in most part and was low priority compared to other areas. Is there anything you can share on these changes?

Finally is there anything you can say on rucks and tactic. These were part of the original focus post 7 months back but we’ve not seen any changes to these. Ruck changes have been teased a few times but have yet to be released.

I (personally) do not like the passing, looks so weird and not natural. Definitely not the worst part and wouldn’t have thought a priority but excited to see what the update will look like.

Passing is one of the worst parts of this game, definitely needed fixing. If it is completely different that is a high chance of being decent I would guess.

@Mr-Brightside what is it that you don’t like about the passing. To me it’s not the passing system that is bad it’s the things around it that are bad. No proper structure to the backline, no clear running lines & poor support runners. IMO it’s these things that force the passing to look bad.

Speed, arc and velocity. The positioning and lines just exacerbate the problem in my opinion. It is the positioning which causes the overly severe sharp angle backward passes etc. But the passes themselves look bad. There was a time back in early access when it looked much more natural and flowing/fluid.

What about the originally indented (tackle, stand, jackal on the isolated tackle) that was supposed to be on the Y button. Rucks are working ok, but this and infringements like (holding on, hands in the ruck) would add significantly to the rucks and make them much more complete. But agree the scrums and mauls is an area where most improvement is needed. Look forward to the next update.

Could someone let me know what the abbreviations on the player stats correspond to?
(i.e. Mins AR P T MT TB LB K KMG TA HE PC TRIES C FG PG).
I can figure out most of them but some are aren’t clear.
