Rugby 25 Megathread

Adding more to the ruck is sensible in so many ways as it will create more space for gaps and better attacking rugby

I still think all the players run way too fast, and it makes the game feel frenetic rather than fun and tactically interesting. I’d slow it down at least 20-30%, they run nearly as fast as the ball.

BUT, I genuinely think the game is becoming a lot more fun to play and has improved loads in the last week or two

I have not been able to play too much but have really seen great improvements. The passing still needs some work of course but the game is really starting to be fun. The next step should for sure be passing and decision making on the AI side, and still fine tuning passing on our side. I have seen as you go up in difficulty the AI for sure seems to run al little bit better however it is still crash ball after crash ball.

They also always kick for touch when the kick off is deep even in the 78th minute when they are down points they would still kick rather than run. The scrums are also very frustrating. I get the timing right but then at some point the ref says use it and the scrum collapses.

I also really like the drop in the pocket option, and I saw the 50/22s has been corrected so that is great. I’m sure BA will come with more tweaks and improvements in the coming weeks.

I know everyone has been frustrated and negative and rightly so I guess but it is what it is. We can now just support the BA team and provide constant feedback and hope that they get us at a level that meets the expectations, which is massively high :grinning:

I feel like the gameplay is slowly but surely getting there, that along with my own playing improving is making it more enjoyable, however still a bit worried about aspects outside the gameplay as they don’t seem to be being addressed and aren’t even being mentioned from what I can see with regards to patch notes or plans for future patches.

-custom competitions, is this getting tweaked or is it only ever gonna be 8 teams max 2 format style?

-squad editing, again is this something that is not changing? It is a HUGE Julia Robert’s level of mistake if not and I would like to know early if it’s not gonna ever be a choice to add players to squads and edit lineups.

-would be nice for some extra cut scenes for things like war dances and deffo for things like subsitiutions.

As well as these a couple of changes I feel could be made to the game play and very quickly.

-don’t have the scrum half move at a line out, essentially telling me exactly where the ball is going, make it a challenge!

-get the linesman out of my hookers face! Doesn’t need to happen!

-remove what the commentator thinks of my kick to touch at a penalty!

Also out of curiosity, do we all have the same commentary team? Or do the guys in the southern henmisphere have have Grant and Tony?

Still no fix for the MLR grand final crash; anyone else experiencing this?

Believe the official term for hakas etc is Cultural Challenge if we’re going full World Rugby lawbook here, each team has the option to lay down a 90 second challenge to their opposition, these are the ones I remember off the top of my head:

NZ- Haka (All Blacks and Black Ferns have separate versions)
Fiji - Cibi
Samoa - Siva Tau
Tonga - Sipi Tau

For the cutscene makers, this is straight from WR’s own matchday guide for the people who run these things: “Where only one team is performing a challenge, no player from the team performing the challenge may cross their own 10m line and no player from the team receiving the challenge may cross the halfway line. It is not mandatory for the team receiving the challenge to face it”.

Yeh I mean the cibi (Fiji) is actually my favorite, but the Haka is iconic and everyone knows it, even outside of rugby so feel it should deffo be in the game!

Surely gotta be an option for a lions tour and eventually World Cup settings, surely!

IF, and only the if coz it’s all pointless if not, if big ant can sort out the issue and let us edit squads and line ups, I think it would be amazing if they could take a look at a “legends” option or something for a few classics teams

Seen a few people mention about the hand offs not working in side camera and ive experienced it too. Ross put out a tweet today which answers the question.
Very interesting to find out more people play end on, I always thought more people would play on side camera because it more similar to watching a game on TV. But because End On is the preferred play style thats how BigAnt are focussing on the game. Which is why there are functionalities in the game that work using one camera, but not the other.
Also a bit of validation for me after tonnes of replies to me saying “playing on end on is playing on easy mode”, if even the CEO agrees side camera is too hard :joy:
Something ive never really thought about in other rugby games that camera orientation chosen by player impacts the mechanics inside the game, I just thought swapping camera just required the analog sticks input to rotate with it. Ive only ever really played side on in every rugby game before Rugby 25, because personally I think it looks visually better, and any time I tried end on against AI in previous games I found it too easy. So havnt tested swapping cameras in other rugby games to see if they also have difference from a mechanics standpoint.
But thought other “Side Camera” players may want to know about this. We will get fixes eventually, but we may find End On camera will have an advantage long in to development if its the main focus.

There’s two main ones for the ABs, Kapo o Pango is the one they did through Rugby World Cup but on very special occasions they bring out Ka Mate. All stuff for the animators to discuss with NZR and the All Blacks if they want to implement them.

I scored a perfectly valid try, but the match continued as if nothing had happened. This happens to me about three or four times per match, it’s awful to score four tries per match and not have them count. I specified this a few days ago and asked to fix the problem quickly if possible. Thank you!

Can’t perform quick lineout when opposition goes into touch after a restart. All players remain on one spot except for the one I have selected.

Rugby 25 Quick Lineout Bug

Update: I moved the assistant ref on the pitch so they could discuss how to fix this situation

I know it’s not accurate to real life but I would love to have all competitions have the teams logo next to their score(like the photo above). Like the Super Rugby UI Design, the Top14 and ProD2 don’t have the logos and it feels like it would just fill the gap and improve aesthetics.

Another very quick one from me tonight before I play this again

It’s one looking for advice fwiw :stuck_out_tongue:

I discovered that the best defence option is to go with “rush defence” so what is the best attacking option and what are the options available?

I’m a side cam player myself and what Ross is saying about more players playing end on is true and it goes back a long time now.

I was an admin on The Rugby Forum for several years and we conducted surveys with nearly every game that came out and after a LOT of feedback we discovered that the End On cams would have something like a 55-45% advantage on average. This increased a lot more when side cam was poorly implemented and depended on how poorly implemented it was. Some games where it was terribly implemented it got massively higher percentages.

There are certainly people playing End On on Rugby 25 right now through lack of choice and better end on implementation.

This said, given historical data for other games the percentage of users who use side cam cannot be so insignificant that it’s worth stalling those customers and ignoring what are flat out bugs?

Ross’s answer explains the poorly implemented angle (lack of height and angling down towards the players more), it’s simply they’re catering to the bulk of their customers. Understandable, but surely an approach of “for now we’re stalling a decent subset of our customers with actual buggy issues” is not the way to go?

Some of the issues they are currently exploring and fixing are issues which will only matter to a subset of their customer base and not so much others, this is always going to be the case. So I’m hoping they will help out us side cam users at some stage?

One last thing, side cam is so much better for local or couch multiplayer, as the whole screen doesn’t spin around for every change of possession. It’s much better for both players having a similar and tv broadcast like angle to play the game from.

Big Ant are generally doing a great job with fixes so far, piece by piece this game is getting better. I really hope they can help out us side view players.

But…broadcast camera… :sob:

Anyone know who’s the guy getting face scanned players and releasing them on the Fanhub/Community?

I know you have to be on PC to do it.

Would be nice if we could also pick either a default UI or real UI from other comps when creating a custom comp. And have different custom comp UIs to select, such as centre bottom of screen with the team’s full name displayed

It’s you lol?? Or am I wrong

I find you can spot space on side cam, but you have to move the defence around attacking different sides with forwards and then try and move out wider with quick ball. It tends to work better as the opposition tire (this feels like a legit thing - and would be improved when the AI can make subs I guess).
If you select a runner aligned to a slightly wider gap in the defensive line you can get through - esp if they have pace and you can get the hand off working.
Keep at it - it’s well worth it when you get a break and some passes together.

Broadcast camera means they the E-SPORT players can do their thing. It’s a non negotiable in modern sports gaming, look at how EAFC’s competitive scene has gone. Tap into that market and the sport of rugby gets in front of new eyes.

Rucks turnovers happening at the proper time now. You do have to manage your rucks. When to send 3 players when to send 0 on defense and when to send 1 or 3 on offense. (Would open up the gameplay if we could send in up to 5 on rare occasion) Just have to have better animations for the end result. 1 defensive rucking player should be able to Jackle or Steal the ball, he should NOT be able to plow over 3 offensive rucking players in the process. The only way to steal in the ruck is by plowing over the other team, this is unrealistic, again the end result is good, you gain possession, and the timing is good but the animation for it is not good. I have 1 or 2 times as the AI has stolen the ball in the ruck without plowing through other players, but that was because there was no opposing rucking player in front. Fix the Y to function like it should and like the tutorial states which is contest the tackle, stand up and steal, (“WITHOUT” the plowing animation) don’t get me wrong, I like the plowing animation when it’s under the correct circumstances.

Good thing is, we are headed in the right direction. Have been playing lots of Rugby 22 and Rugby Challenge 3 to compare.

There are many things Rugby 25 is doing better. The control of players and animation is better at times when the players hit the gap, they really hit it with good, exciting pace, better than Rugby 22 and Rugby Challenge 3. The animations for sidesteps and fends and bump offs are better, when they work. The multiplayer tackles in Rugby 25 are nice, just need more variations. The different animation for getting up from the tackle is also nice, just have to implement it correctly so that when you do a standing tackle you have a better chance of a Jackle if isolating your opponent (and I mean jackle/steal not a plowing through the other player animation) so there are a lot of good things, but things like, mauls, scrums, and lineouts need to be given more importance, and deeper systems are needed, if you want to make a great “Rugby Union” game.
