Rugby 25 Megathread

There is no way around it. I know it’s very frustrating. So much restrictions with teams. We just want to enjoy the game and edit any teams with adding or removing players. This is what makes a sports game fun and keeps up the longevity and replay-ability.

The people worried about the online leaderboard are the same people who consistently pick and go with the 9 knowing player switching is too buggy or kick it short on every restart cause they know the scrums are bugged. I even played someone who was taking advantage of the game not having an offside on kicks, Id kick to him and hed kick to his player up the field who would pick it up and score. I think we have bigger issues then the leaderboard being off.

some things that needs attention:
Career Mode:

Can someone explain to me what is the points system and what to do with it. you accumulate the points for doing objectives but no idea what to do with them.
the budget needs to be looked at. you must have a budget to sign players every season. for example, my existing players i cant resign and now half of my squad transferred to other teams, really frustrating. then there is the training sessions, does this actually contribute to anything or did i just miss the contributions? also the fatigue element needs to be addressed. every game I’m actually playing with a new squad because half of my players are dead.

then on the game play:
AI needs to do more then one pass. really annoying because you just target the first runner the entire time. the laws of the game needs to be stricter applied. for example, when the AI kicks the ball and i receive it, i kick it back and my player then basically stands next to their fullback and grab it and score a try. AI must also do substitutions because they play an entire game with a guy that has a broken arm.

i really enjoy the game and think in a few months time this will be the best rugby game ever.

Important that difficulty is tuned. Playing on hardest - essentially because of AI incompetence in attack, I rarely concede any tries that aren’t a result of glitches at this stage, and only conced pens from the pretty broken scrum mechanic or random offsides when I box kick.

Hopefully as the ai attack improves it will get better

Just want to discuss rucks in depth for a bit.

The situation with rucks and there being instances of turnover after turnover seems to be very related to the early stages of the game when sides are fresher and their stamina is still very high.

Later in the game turnovers become harder and harder to get causing really long periods of phase after phase of relentless AI attack.

On another note, the more I’ve played this game the more the ruck situation has appeared to be fairly random in who’s going to win at times. That random factor is likely not random at all, but who has gone into the ruck and how much stamina they have to be able to access the full power of whatever rucking stat they have.

Even if those are the factors in play or something similar, it’s still quite random in outcome and not really a game we play or contest, because:

You don’t control who’s coming into the ruck.
You’re not able to pull in the main forwards who will win ball.
You’re limited to 3 men only coming in.
There is no game played from our point of view to win the ball.

Other games have had different ways to handle things.

Rugby Challenge allowed you to either pull in nearest players or to bind the nearest forwards, which had mixed success, because speed was of the essence at times and forwards were often too far away, meaning backs got pulled in and the whole structure of back play often became a mess.

Rugby World Cup 2011 had a button to bind forwards and forwards came into the ruck pretty much exclusively. After all forwards that could be bound were bound, you could quickly use the same button to intensify the defensive forwards effort to turnover the ball and likewise for the attacking forwards to keep it. This worked generally well, but people didn’t always want to bind the maximum number of forwards to have access to attempt a turnover. There was a meter and this was helpful to show how close you were pushing the ref to a penalty, but also on the other hand this was also a slightly button bashy kind of method. This system did allow for better back structure as backs were not expected to commit to rucks and could find their formations a lot better.

Rugby 2025 would work better with a hybrid of the two systems.

These are the changes I would make.

Being able to bring in upto five players would be the ideal maximum number to the ruck.
Allowing only 1 to 2 at most nearby backs to join a ruck at one time (okay not realistic, but in real life you’d not often get more and it’s not ideal for good game structure otherwise.

Not allowing the 10 (or possibly even the 9) to join those rucks.

Add the function for the Triangle (PS) button to also work for the tackler standing immediately after making a tackle and attempting to get hands on the ball (this is how the tackler would “Steal”. Pushing this for too long would result in a penalty.

Having the tackler supported by upto 4 bound players with the same Circle (PS) button we have now (this makes 5 maximum). These players are attempting to blow over the ball as currently.

Once player number chosen are bound and until the ball comes out, then Square (PS) which is currently “Steal”, becomes like the intensify forward effort button from Rugby World Cup 2011. If you do this swiftly enough you could blow the opposition off the ball, if you continue it past a refs warning or too long in general, then there could be a penalty.

The Square (PS) intensify effort button could be accompanied by a meter with a red-line area similar to RWC 2011, but if people don’t like it they could switch it off in options.

I’d also add the ability to click in or hold the right thumbstick to hold onto the ball when in fear of steal or turnover. This would have a small amount of tolerance before the ref would blow a penalty.

We also need to have a change where upon winning a ball from a turnover that you cannot immediately lose it before having used it. It looks very silly with turnover following turnover at the same ruck!

I believe these changes would help facilitate some actual structure to the game and turn rucks into a legitimate contest. There is nothing wrong with using similar ideas to other developers as those ideas were not unique in video game usage.

At the moment we don’t know why people are winning the ball most of the time and an optional meter like (RWC 2011) would help clarify that for people. Once they understand it enough they could always switch it off.

These are some ideas, be keen to know what others think?

They also have Michael Currys face as Sama Malolo in this picture hahahah. Must be a glitch because they have Samas face too.

Hi everyone!

Just thought I’d jump in and thank you all for your continued feedback with each update. You’ve all been a big help to the team, and it’s nice to see so many new members joining the community to share their insights.

Myself and the rest of the Support team have been trying to remain as nimble as possible, to ensure the feedback following each patch is reviewed by the team, and is taken into account ahead of each update. So I do apologise for any questions here that have remained unanswered here.

I’m happy to say that I have some Extended Patch Notes that I can share with you! We look forward to hearing your feedback, and as always - if you run into any issues, the best way to report this is through our Support Site.

Hi Lachie, everytime when i play around halftime, i only press the pass button but then the game stop for second half is there any manner this can be fixed.I did not kick out or anything.Should also submit a ticket for that trough your support site.

@Lachie_BA latest updates look pretty exciting, thanks for including the detailed patch notes.

Do you have any word or info around the team editing function? Whether this is something that’s in the works? Or if not what the reason behind it is. I think a lot of people in the community like myself just want to have some clarity moving forward, many thanks

Played a few matches and all honestly don’t feel there was really improvement on the AI passing more and games where it still feels the same, if I can give you advise play the game on ps5 without any updates and go from there because that’s the most fun as AI are actually playing good rugby

New update is on pc consoles usually few hours after

I would say about a 5% improvement in AI, sad thing is knowing the game can be fun when AI passes the ball around such a same the game has gone backwards with AI, it’s like they will improve something but then feels like game goes backwards alot at the same time.

Just hope the team can get all the dots to work together I feel atm yes rucks needs work but AI needs to get better because atm due to gameplay being the same it’s not that fun anymore as you know it will be the same with some improvements

I’m on PS5 but haven’t received the update yet, keep checking every 30 mins, yes I know I’m sad but it’s my day off so I wanna play lol

One thing I have noticed, I’m not quite sure if anyone’s posted this issue but when I make substitutions at half time they don’t save and you have to do it again after half time.

Anyone else able to check this?

Yeah i have that isshe also. Only subs made during a half seem to save, not the ones made at half time
