There needs to be a significant distinction in players and positions. That’s what is missing from games. Wingers and props has same speeds. Halfbacks doing lock tackles and anyone can kick like a half. It’s a simple but tedious fix that requires ratings and players to be adjusted. That’s why pro team is broken and not fun and to be honest any game play. Example being Jye gray sliding over terell may to get a try. 91 players don’t feel as amazing as they should. A 78 FB is as good as a 91 except might get one more fend
I was going to make a list of the new player overalls and how wrong they were with reasoning but the list was already getting too big halfway through so to put it bluntly the following are not 90+ overalls.

That’s 51 names there with a 90+ overall rating undeserved, for the most part they are older players that should be in decline stats wise, fringe Origin players or good first graders however there are some such as Tyrell Sloan that have been dropped from lower end teams like the Dragons in recent times.
Big Ant, what are you doing? You’re only going to create frustration when a player like Tyrell Sloan starts playing like the second coming of Billy Slater. Nobody is going to enjoy that or think it makes sense.
If the NRL did indeed send those stats through then someone over there needs to be fired for taking the you know what…
The real problem though is the gameplay isn’t playing the way it should.
Defense in the game is a big problem from the warping tackles to the sliding defense not working as it should which is my biggest gripe with the game. The whole gameplay loop needs redoing so it plays more like real life footy.
First thing I’d do is and I’ve mentioned this already is use the L2 controlled defense to be compressed defense. Holding the button sucks players in either side of the selected player and opens gaps out wide. The longer you hold the more players slide in. Holding L2 and moving the left stick should not only compress your defense but be able to move your selected player around much like controlled movement works right now so you have not only controlled movement but compress as well.
Speed up the passing and the play the ball speed and have players run onto passes flatter at speed. This will allow better hole running out wide and allow for more defensive scramble and better chances to take advantage of overlaps while the defense has less time to reset.
Compress control is the key to opening up the defensive line much like real life.
The next thing is fatigue, fatigue should create slower players over time of game and when sliding on defense should make the defensive line open up gaps to take advantage of or noticeably slow tired players less effective at tackling is easier to line break.
The negative to compress is opening the outsides but the positives should be stopping right stick moves so there’s a good reason to use it for solid defense in the middle but at risk of wider attack.
Dpad sliding should be hold Left or Right to slide left or right, the longer held the more your defense slides left or right. This would create even more uncertainty over your defensive guesses and gaps created as to which side will be attacked so compress can drag more players from your weak side opening up overlaps for the centres and wingers.
It’s all about creating that flow you see in the real game where you battle up the middle, drag defenders in then quickly whip the ball out wide from a quick play the ball as the defense is resetting creating the need to use the slow down button to add risk of six again/penalty.
Its just finding that balance between play the ball speed, passing speed which should be faster and then the right compress speed, sliding defense speed and recovery speed for line reset.
I reckon these could be slider options so you can create the balance of play you want like maybe the AI could have a faster compress but a slower reset or slide so a lower difficulty could allow wingers and centres to be a bit more dominant out wide either side of the ruck as an example.
Has anyone got any tips for defence in general as well as defending your goal line. It’s borderline impossible to stop players barging over. My big forwards are getting run through by hookers and fullbacks close to the line.
Also how do you counter the side step. I have been trying to use controlled movement and not commit but as soon as a player hits a step my defender gets caught in that stupid animation where they get bamboozled and taken out of the game.
Yeah that wrong footed animation needs to go so you can try and stop it.
I’d even get rid of driving animations as well as they aren’t more easily countered and theres no tutorial explaining it better if there is a way to stop them.
Controlled defending is very weak as is when right stick moves are so good which is why I suggested the above defense ideas.
Hurry up and fix this game it is absolutely disgraceful, somehow you have managed to make it worse then rugby league live 4, how hard is it to atleast make a game better then the last, absolute rought of $100
Even if there was an option for the defender to also flick the stick to counter a step or ‘read’ it would be an improvement. The attacker can just bump and step and there isn’t anything you can do. It’s so unrewarding when you pin them on the 20 for 3 tackles and they just break the line with jammy mechanics
Wasn’t there the “Forecast” function (down on the D pad) in the game? I swear I used it once it and it’s appearing anymore.
They should get rid of the Right Stick sidestep all together. Be gone RS sidestep be gone! Player movement should only be governed by what you do on the Left Stick. RS step has killed the game its cheesy af and looks robotic. Imo oc.
The main problem with the step is the wrong foot animation you get locked in and because the defense doesn’t compress prior to the move it’s just a free run through the line. Just get rid of that animation and let compressed defense nulify right stick moves, the step itself is fine.
I reckon player movement should be sharper and way more responsive so you can change direction on a dime whether just left stick or sprinting. Left stick quick change of direction would be way better movement option. Would help for aiming at holes rather than steering through them. I know its a bit more arcadey but I reckon it’s better. Especially after playing games like Rugby 06 and Rugby 08 and even Rugby League Live 1 and 2.
Can we please get an adjustment to the defence and passing maybe something similar to Rugby League Live 3 L1 to change player left R1 to change player right and L2 closest to ball (controlled movement isn’t it!) the dive tackle should be the counter to the step as well it’s too op add a goosie animation to counter the dive and passing should feel fast and crisp like real life not slow and floaty
I think the step should remain, though the timing should be way tighter. To pull of an effective step timing window should be half of what it is currently. Then the movement stat should increase or decrease that window.

I’ve been browsing in the shadows for sometime and have seen some of the regulars here and it’s great to see Radman, Iverson, St Helens, Lionmaul and Valhalla return to the watering hole of rugbaah league gaming. This game has potential and Radman has nailed it, if the gameplay can’t be tweaked the stats need a complete overhaul. After all these years BA could have asked any of the RLL4 content streamers for some help all this could have been avoided.
Say for example we can’t change the gameplay mechanics too much, then we need to focus on the player attributes. We don’t care if the NRL sends the stats if they are also wrong too. This is about getting this game enjoyable first, then tweaking some more
Forwards: Speed - all of them for now, we can tweak some outlier speedsters later. All forwards should not be above 60
Stamina - reduce them to 60 also, we need to create a gap between the backs and forwards so when we make line breaks we can sometimes convert them to length of the field trys. I’ve never seen a length of the field try in this game yet. Support runners get mowed down instantly
Kicking - all forwards should have kicking below 50
Strength - 90+ forwards need to be alot stronger than backs
Backs: Speed - all of them for now make them 85+ wingers and centres 90+
Stamina make them 90+
I could go on forever, but don’t wanna crash this thread.

So much missed opportunity in 8yrs but there is hope and it’s in the academy and stats fixing.
Also some nice sounds in the pro team pack opening animation, some proper poker machine sounds for full dopamine effect, I don’t like the silence when packing sapphire. Maybe some immortal cards make them OPAL.
Let’s gooo boys the community wants this but the shell communication from BA is deafening, nobody likes to use X Twitter, it’s a toxic platform and I’ve seen Ross cop it so hard there, patch notes have to communicated here, it’s your forum.

Off of a step should be able flick down on the right stick to initiate.
Maybe alternatively introduce an ability to bring defenders into the tackle (say using triangle/Y button repeated pressing) that are at prescribed distance to the wrestle. Then depending on strength/attribute of attacker and average combined attributes of defenders determines probability of held up or try. Then incorporate a new animation for each areas along the try line ie; corner try attempts player can be put into touch/held up.
I’d rather be able to control my defensive line better and set defenders closer together before the hitup and say if I don’t compress and move forward or don’t compress and get the timing right for the hit then the attacking player should have the advantage and gain metres in the tackle or drive over the line. The driving tackles should all be able to be defended in some way and if they all are I would love to know how.
Anyone know if theres a way for PS5 players to play with ps4 players, can send and recieve invites but can’t join as me and my mates are playing on different editions of the game. Many games (Fifa, 2k) give you the option to download the old gen version of the game for free after purchasing the current gen version, but this doesnt seem to be the case for RL26. I also bought on disc if this is a factor, cheers

Totally agree, players are rated insanely compared to real life abilities. The new changes in the last patch have made some even worse, with a bunch of just “decent” players now in the 90’s!
Surely it shouldn’t be too hard for Big Ant to take the current ratings and make some global adjustments. Whether that bringing down Props Speed by 25 on average, 2nd Rowers Speed down by 20, both their agility levels down by 20, or whatever, but it needs to happen.
Relative speeds are the biggest issue, but as you say there are issues across the board with various skill categories.
Personally I’d love it if they gave us a global changer for skills, particularly for use in off-line play. Changing player by player would be incredibly tedious, I’m sure that’s something Big Ant need to work on themselves, but yes it needs to happen.
Also, great points on the one on one strip! (I’ve been testing buttons in case it’s still there somewhere ) Put it on triangle Big Ant!
Foresight mode seems to have disappeared.
The hold up button, wasn’t aware of that (or don’t remember - it’s been a long time since I’ve played League games), but it sounds like it’s urgently needed for the driving animation near the line!
