Rugby League 26 - Megathread

Played tonight after recent updates. Game has gotten a lot lot better. I am actually having as much fun now as I was the other night playing RLL 2.

Well done big ant and I hope you continue making this game what it should be. It’s not there yet. But it’s on its way. Not sure what happened at launch but it feels like something must have happened. This is obviously the game it was supposed to be at launch.

Small thing for the next update. Players having the wrong footedness.

Val Holmes, Munster, Chrichton, Ponga etc.

I like the recent update where the props were slowed down along with backrowers but unfortunately halves and backs are not significantly quicker than their forward counterparts and you can still have notable speedsters being chased down by forwards.

Also no idea if this has been fixed but a gamebreaking glitch occurs when you grubber at an opposing player, no matter where it hits the opposing player it is a knock on. I’ve had kicks aimed at the feet, head, torso all called as knock ons.

Also still the issue in coach mode where very few star players become available so you are left recruiting depth players or youth players but not genuine first graders.

Hey Lionmaul…using the tackle button rather than right stick for goal line tackles does indeed seem to give me more ‘held up’ tackles.
I’ve been keeping a mental note on the outcome ratio and I reckon it’s 6 out of 10 are held up tackles. Gives me more confidence to defend my goal line. :+1:

Why is it every time I enter the game the clubs change from NO on Alternative Numbering to YES when I spent 5 mins changing them to NO previously? And it makes a weird prompt noise when hover over the AN option. Also, McDonald Jones Stadium still has the sun being cast on thr wrong side. Cheers.

The best offload I’ve seen yet, nice animation…

BUT seriously BA when are you going to unleash the wingers in this game??!!

Wingers are always trailing the Centres and play by 10-20 metres let us have some fun in the corners and down the sidelines and capitalise on some champagne play

There’s a tackle button?? I didn’t see it listed in the controls, I’ve just been running into people

Hi. Long time Rugby video game fan but first time poster here. Great to see some names I remember fondly from the rugby forum back in the day ( Radman, Lionmaul)

Ok, I’m at odds with RL26. I love it AND hate it at the same time! So strange. I think it’s because the bad bits really ruin the flow of the game and if they could be tweaked this could be an absolute rugby video game masterpiece!

It’s a really playable game, but sometimes I actually feel I’m not in control at all. I can’t explain why either. Does anybody else feel this way?

Here’s the things I’d change to make it much better.

  1. Defence!
Defending on this game is quite simply a chore. The player change option just doesn’t work 90% of the time. Mostly you’ll be seeing tackle that you think you’ve done only to notice a player with a red circle under his feet wandering aimlessly or diving to the floor metres away from the ball carrier. Also, when there’s a break made you can NEVER change player to the chasers after the ball carrier. It’s so frustrating. If this was fixed the game would be improved 100 fold.

  2. Scripted Ai tries!
This game has almost as much scripting as fifa does. If the ai wants to score a try, it will and there’s nothing you can do about it. Normally it’s a kick on the last tackle which hits the feet of your player and it gives a knock on! From the resulting scrum a player will step a defender and go over. Every. Single. Time. This needs to be addressed

  3. Camera Angles
I only play on the “behind far” camera angle because it’s the best one to see all of your players and where your runners are. I’d love an inclusion of a camera angle in between behind & behind far. That’s be perfect. In Rugby 25 you had much more control over camera angles so I don’t see why it’s not implemented here.

Overall I think Rugby League 26 is a good game that’s let down by flaws which ruin the gameplay experience. If the defending & changing player could be sorted this would be my favourite Rugby game after the Original Jonah Lomu Rugby on the PlayStation in 1997

Same with me, won 25-0 and then result said lost and kicked me out of the ladder with only 3 matches left

Tackle button as in the left trigger ‘controlled movement’ option. I generally don’t use it while tackling opponents and generally just move my player into tackles with left stick. But for tackles within 5 metres from my try line (and more importantly tackles right on the try line) I input the controlled movement trigger but then don’t use the right stick drag player option.
Using controlled movement tackle and left stick only seems to pull the attacker over my try line but also turns him onto his back at the same time. Give it a go.

Tackle is A (XBox) & X (PS) face button, hold after tackle to hold down player.
Or
Right stick in any direction. You can still hold down the player with the face button.
Or
Hold LT/L2 and right stick direction for controlled movement tackle.
Or
Press (click in) right stick for attempted big hit.

Anyone have a list of these power House cards? I noticed there’s all new ones but no idea on who they are

I think the overall speed of the gameplay is really good now.
But the backs and support runners need more speed juice and less fatigue
We are lacking simple draw and pass mechanics which is critical
When I make a line break and have the FB always in front of me (he is always there in the same spot never tracking from anywhere else which is also wrong), I can’t draw in the FB and lay off a peach soft ball to my support runners who should be a speedy centre/wing/FB and then march off into the distance shut the gates, time or a taunt and try time.
This would make the experience so rewarding, please focus on support runners, make the backs faster so we can capitalize on line breaks. I make like 20 line breaks a game and score only 2 tries which also aren’t from the said line breaks.

Issue withthe controlled movement tackle is AI steps past it so easily. controlled tackles seem to get the player stuck in the mud.

Yep, I never use it.
I only use LT/L2 to get onside after a tackle.

The last paragraph is so true! 18-20 line breaks per match but hardly any result in tries unless you’re playing on rookie mode. Support runners are too far behind and there’s no draw and pass ability. It’s too clunky and you never feel fully in control.

Would be cool if there was a way to switch between holding your line and coming in off your line to jam attacking players. Have it like a risk reward being good to stop attack but bad for opening space for hole runners. This could technically be a more controlled draw and pass mechanic.

Would add a bit more depth to defense tactics and add more advantage for good attacking play.

Maybe tap up twice quickly to make the two players either side of the selected defender draw into the attacking player a bit quicker to shut down runs but open space in the line and draw in outside edge players for more open runs. Could also be dependent on which direction the attacking player is running as to which players come in off their side perhaps.

Thing I’ve noticed now field markings for thrusday night footy/friday/super Saturday/Sunday footy marking always the same even for finals series just all the same…would be great to have field markings for those events and days.
Also flags in crowd always see heaps of flags, none in this game.

Little details but hey im a passionate footy fan
