Rugby League 26 - Megathread

That’s my whole point of that idea and others is to give the player more control over every action on field without the need for AI assists.

There really needs to at the very least be options to turn off Assisted tackling and add a select nearest player to ball option so you are forced to engage.

My biggest pet peeve going back more than 25 years is being able to put your controller down when defending and the defense does it all for you. I won’t mind the ai running defense but the ultimate decision to make the tackle should be the players.

Only thing I can suggest now that I’ve figured out higher is better is turn up def OVR influence to anywhere from full to half way so you get a more realistic flow where you can hit the middle up for a few tackles then pass it wide late in the count. Having a more compressed defense leads to more scrambling out wide either side allowing more try scoring chances and less a feel like the whole field is covered. Just tweak till you find your balance.

I’d say keep it on amateur also so you also get the break tackle chance as extra way of breaking the line but that’s up to you.

There are other threads around, but basically from what i can work out, the custom difficulties basic settings do not equate to the default settings. So selecting all Amateur for Custom does not equal the Default Amateur.

I actually treat it as a totally different system. It does not actually seem to matter at all if you choose Rookie, Amateur etc.. it is all the same, you can just move a slider down to zero to or move it to 100, choosing Rookie or Legend, does not affect that slider anymore. I can not work out what it does affect apart from just using them as a default starting point on the sliders.

One of the worse things about the Custom settings is the set ball kicking speed, its all the same again, basically fast. so if you have trouble timing a kick using the default Amateur setting, then you will have issues using Custom.

With the DEF OVR slider, yes it compresses the defence the higher you go, until it looks like a bunch of school kids running after the ball - but It seems to also adjusts the aggression, so setting to max may not be the best setting.

Overall, I find setting all the Custom settings to the default Legend setting is actually easier than the default Pro setting.

Yes agree, starting to enjoy the game more. Would like to see more variations with the video judge, and would like to see some kind of twitch play were if there is a defender standing around at the try line, they would get more involved in helping to get the ball held up. My least favorite part of the game is those 1 on 1 struggle tackle try over the line(while the rest of the defense stands and watches the slow struggle to put the ball down) I hate this when I do it to the AI and I hate it when the AI does it to me, its the most non exciting try ever. In saying this, in the latest patch it does seem like it has been reduced some, but every game it happen at least once. At least if there was a chance on the 1 on 1 that the offensive player would drop the ball or the 1 on 1 defender knocks it loose or holds it up. Please improve thie Big Ant, this alone will greatly enhance the try experience on both sides of the ball. Maybe a special tackle to try and hold up the ball or a button if you press quick enough will help add another defender standing close by to help stop these un satisfying trys. And the AI needs to be able to stop my struggle 1 on 1 over the try line as well, (Atleast some of the time)because there is no fun in scoring these type of trys at the moment.

Just another point as it happened again last night for me on Xbox, though I believe it can affect PC and maybe PlayStation is that sometimes using a Custom settings does not work at all. For me, this is when using the Play Now option.

In game, you end up with a setting that is almost impossible to play against. I notice it somewhat straight away as you can not push forward either in attack or defence, its like running against a brick wall. Also the AI runners side step and pirouette to the max.

If I then fully quit the game and restart the Xbox, it goes back to normal the next time I start up a Play Now custom game.

I’ve found good enjoyment with def overall at about 4.6 and I’ve increased fatigue and dropped props overall stamina to about max 40-50 but kept backs and halves up toward 90+

That way fatigue gets in the game and when the forwards get tired and with defence compressed in, if opposition spread the ball the middle forwards are slower to get out wide and also works in attack to find gaps.

I really enjoy the game, I play with ai pretty maxed out with evades and fends to make it a bit of a challenge, one big request I’d like from big ant is ai contesting bombs.. it’s completely gone from the game and would make the ai attack a little more threatening. Also an option to go back to when the dummy half ai could scoot and get penalties would be great.

Yes, the most frustrating part of the game is the defense standing by and watching the 1 on 1 struggle try over the line. It there is a defender standing close by, we should be able to trigger him to get involved to help prevent the try. Or at the very least have more variations on what can happen on the 1 on 1 struggle over the line. Dropped ball, held up, ect, ect. Not a slow boring try every time. This also goes for me doing it against the AI, the most unsatisfying tries , is my 1 on 1 slow motion put down, while the AI defenders are just standing by watching. Have them get involved to help prevent the put down try.

Controlled movement added to all players both player and AI is the missing puzzle piece for defense.

Makes a lot of sense cos the AI assisted players just run non stop side to side so having that balance from running to the whole line in controlled movement sets the line like you would see defense do in a real game. Would make defense more realistic.

Then all I’d do is allow left or right slide defense cancel assisted player running so press left Dpad and line immediately runs left or press right and the line runs right and you can cancel into controlled movement at any time to set the line and by pressing up on the Dpad it immediately selects nearest player to ball carrier and your defensive line compresses to about 7 or 8 on the def OVR influence slider and you can cancel into controlled movement at any point.

Bare basics you should be able to cancel into slide defense and compressed defense at any point.

Hi there, defector from the Rugby 25 forum here. I own all of the RLL games, 1-4, but have been holding off paying full whack for RL 26 in the hope that there might be a sale (Rugby 25 has regularly been discounted since just a few months after release). As this doesn’t seem to be happening, I wanted to ask if you guys think it’s worth buying at this stage, or should I plod on with RLL 4? Also, is 9s still in the game? I used to love that mode! I’d appreciate any advice, cheers!

Rugby League 26 still needs a lot of work. While it has it’s good moments there’s too many issues that can make it a frustrating experience. RLL4 is arguably a lot better still. I’d wait for a sale. There’s also no 9’s.

At least it gets updated more regularly than R25… Looks to have a bit more depth to it in terms of game modes too.

Yes, it certainly does look like it plays a better game of League than Rugby 25 does Union. But having spent 60 big ones on the latter only to see it reduced a month or so later, I’m wary of doing the same again. I just know that if I shell out on RL26, they’ll drop the price a few days later.

Need the fix when you go up for a contest for the ball and knock it behind, it’s given as a knock on against you

Might be nice too, one day, if we can maybe have control of the players when we select them in defence. By that, I mean in the example of when your opposition put a kick downfield right near the sideline. You can select your fullback, but have zero control over him/her until they get the ball … and oftentimes you don’t want them getting the ball in that moment. I would love to take control of my fullback in that moment and just have him/her leave the ball alone.

In the old games you could press down on the right analog to not go after the ball close to the sideline, have not tried it yet in this game. But would be good if we can tackle, select the next defender close by and then tackle with 2nd and 3rd closest defender, particularly to help stop those boring try line one on one struggle tries,(while defenders stand and watch) annoying when it happens to me and I hate when I am able to do it to the AI. Worst part of the game, haven said that it does seem like it has been reduced some, and still enjoying the game:) Look forward to improvements on try line defense in particular.
