TIEBREAK - Megathread

Since last nights mini update i have only just got used to the changed timing to get power. i finally worked out that more so than ever we have to watch the players wind up to get power right as i normally look more at the power meter which was not helping me at all and i hated the change, now keeping an eye on the swing we can easily hit the overpowered red area with topspin and hit the ball out easily. I think the tuning changes are good but one day apart is a little much to get settled into the gameplay.

Maybe try turning all the screen assists off , it’s far more rewarding and immersive when you use your own judgement and not just looking at a meter. Plus it will make the game harder which I think the majority are desperate for.

Yes yes and yes just did this on ps5 with tiebreak movement and on expert

3 set 2-1 Federer vs Murray.

By having no markers or power bar you really need to think about when you power up and release your shot.

I’m not overpowering my opponent and really had to build my point

I got punished for dropping shots short and I was a bit more reserved in attacking until I really put myself in a good position in the rally.

I also turned serve timing off after the 2nd set and that added another element to the game

It’s always going to be better when you use your own judgement and not just looking at screen assists to make it very difficult to make a error . Glad you tried it and probably will never go back to the screen assists again. First thing I always do on game’s turn off all the screen assists etc. Looks arcadey and makes everything so easy.

Dear developers, if you want to make a real tennis simulation, here are some guidelines for it:

  • Rallies don’t need to be the same all the time, it’s constantly left right, right left, the AI almost never catches the player I’m controlling on the wrong foot. It doesn’t matter which players are involved, every rally is the same. No one does dropshots, no one does a slice from AI controlled players.
  • Serving. Serving is probably the worst part of this game, it’s totally arcade, it has nothing to do with real life. Add some playstyle big server or serve and volley. Have you ever watched how Pericard serves, how Shelton plays? How do Fritz, Zverev or Hurkacz serve?
  • The other playstyles are all exactly the same, no computer-controlled player plays differently. Everyone plays the same. (Mpetshi Pericard can’t play identically to Sebastian Baez lol)
  • Add players like Arthur Fils, Alexander Bublik, Alejandro Tabilo
  • In edit mode, add a reverse cap that has a slot, no one wears this reverse closed cap in real life.
  • Ratings of the players, many players have unrealistic ratings, go to tennis insights, see the statistics, what kind of forehand, backhand, serve, etc.
Maybe even add in offline mode that you can edit ratings for all players.
  • If someone has a bad backhand, they should play more slices, if someone is an attacker, they should send deeper balls and attack the net, if someone is defending, they should just return the ball, etc.
  • Expert level in game is to easy

These are some of the guidelines of a great tennis fan. The game has potential, but it needs a lot of work to turn that potential into something good.

Posted this on the discord channel but hopefully can get a response here too @MikeM @JNT_BA.

With the game’s AI being such a big topic of discussion lately, would you be able to provide some insight into whether the following mechanics are part of the game?

Hopefully if confirmed we can give more specific feedback, in relation to the systems in place.

AI Decision-Making, I’m confident this is part of the game but I’ll ask anyway.

  • Positioning: AI predicts the ball’s trajectory and moves accordingly to reach it on time. This involves calculating the optimal position on the court.

  • Shot Selection: The AI chooses between different types of shots (e.g., lob, slice, topspin) based on the current situation, such as the opponent’s distance from the net.

  • Risk Assessment: Balance between aggressive and defensive play. The AI evaluates the likelihood of winning a point with a certain shot and adjusts strategies based on in-game conditions. And I guess this can be tuned depending on which difficulty you are playing with

Learning and Adaptation: Would be cool if this is confirmed as part of the AI in the game

Reinforcement Learning: This would be great if lets say in career mode or during a tournament Is there a system in place for the AI to adapt over from learning over multiple matches played? During a game, is there a system for the AI to recognise successful plays and mistakes, thus refining its strategies?

Pattern Recognition and Adaptive AI: As players, I feel we all tend to fall into a pattern of play, we might find a certain way to rally and will continue to do so until we lose

Is there a system where the AI can analyse the player’s style (e.g., frequent cross-court shots) and adjust tactics accordingly?

For longer matches would be good to see the CPU change the way they play to counter your style

Again how fast they adapt and change could be determined by the difficulty level and player styles

so basically do you have AI systems in the game that recognises your pattern of play and makes adjustments to counter it. thrown in the way they counter you by incorporating their play styles and reckon that would be pretty neat.

And some light reading regarding adaptive AI in a very recent sports game. https://medium.com/@aifilmnews/college-football-25-embracing-the-future-with-adaptive-ai-ab2647977ca9

PLEASE FIX IT! I’m a beginner player in the first year tour, rate 49. I’m playing in expert and this is Roland Garros 4^ round against Medvedev. I’m beating him After De minaur and alcaraz…they didn’t hold a serve, no one turn. Medvedev just didn’t make a point in his serve. I always make a flat (Slice) return and then i won an easy pass…EVERY TIME. The AI players are not able to close a shot near the net, they are not able to close a simple volley on the net. And fot my (bad) player is too easy to return 196/200 km serve with a slice close to the net. PLEASE FIX IT cause the game is potentially a very great game. Thanks

yes, without addressing this fundamental flaw the game is unplayable. @JNT_BA. Of course, Tiebreak has big potential but it is being said almost whole time from the start of early access yet until now game didn’t reach it. But I still wish Tiebreak to become great tennis game.

What a ridiculous comment to say Tiebreak is unplayable, i play every day offline on Hard difficulty and have adjusted to each update even this last one which honestly is not as good as the 31st October and i would even say i hated it for the first half hour then adjusted to it. For the time being i am sure the devs will change the gameplay yet again but to tell people the game is unplayable is like those same handfull of trolls on the Steam forum who hate on the game no matter what, this is why in general these forums are not an indication on the vast majority of players who don’t even go on forums.

Sorry, but for me it’s unplayable in the current state. AI is really bad and win on expert 6:0, 6:0 against Djokovic without any challenge and demanding learning curve is not good at all. It is how it is.

I am playing with no assist meters on screen with World Tour Movement never using triggers for sprint on Hard difficulty and can win one set easily then can lose a set thinking i am going to win easily but i can make more errors with this latest update, the AI is more predictable with this last patch and it is good they now can double fault but are probably making too many unforced errors compared to the 31st Oct update,be patient i am sure it is not going to stay in its current state. I still don’t know why the devs cannot add higher difficulties like Pro,World Class and Legend to cater for all standard players and of course sliders would help everyone to play the game they are suited to.

I mean the post admitted that they are using a known exploit to easily win , so you know it’s there and you know by using it you will easily win ,so police yourself and don’t use it until it’s addressed and you will have harder matches. It’s needs fixing obviously but it can be avoided until then by simply not expiloitng it . The whole game needs to be harder and has needed it ever since release and they took a step in that direction on 31st update then backtracked unfortunately. They fighting a loosing battle trying to please everyone with difficulty and timing, better to just use the time to tune sliders and let people customise their own experience . Sliders make and save their last two releases and this one desperately needs the same features.

Agree with everything you just said, other players are just looking for any exploit they can find which for me not using the sprint makes the game better at the moment and also the visual assists turned off.

Glad you tried and sticking with the no screen assists, Obviously going to make the game easier having a timing meter telling you when to release to not make errors. This way using your own judgement is much more rewarding and challenging.

I think we need variety of shots and movement on the court from cpu and it could shoot off, 31th october patch was a good beginning…

add sampras & agassi simple

Hello Support-Team!
After 27 Updates, this game is not realy finish to fix the Problems.

After the last Update is one more Bug founded. The Pricing for Winning of Rounds is buggi. If i win a Tournament in Carriermod, it was ok, but if i lost the Tournament in halffinal or earlier i earn only 50 Euros. Thats not realy realistic.

The Trainingsmodus is to hard to make the Player better.
Why we have only 20 attemps vor each training? I think, its better to have unlimited attemps. With the current Modus i cant develop the Player.

Technically the game looks very good. At this moment the biggest problem is the tactics in the game.

In singles match I noticed that in defending position cpu hits the ball down the line all the time which causes the from left to right rallies. When cpu is in defending position they should hit more central or cross or hit a slice to win time to recover a good position. In this way we should get much more variety in the rallies.
Serve should get more dominant compared with return, especially at the faster courts.

In doubles match there is a lot of work to do. Net players are now dribbeling in a defensive position all the time. They should be more aggressive and closer to the net to be able to finish volleys. Also move along with the ball if the team mate hits it very cross or through the middle.
Just ask one doubles player how a doubles match should be played and they can easily fix that problems and make doubles matches incredibly fun.

I really hope we will see this changes and the game will almost be perfect. It’s the tennis game with the best potential I’ve ever seen. :+1:t3:

Hi, today I’ve tried to play without scramble (I always play without visual assist) and it is little bit better but still very easy on expert level.

On Hard difficulty since this last patch the CPU is hitting into the net way more in basic topspin rallies from baseline, the women seem to be the worst offenders yet seem to return flat shots no problem. The AI is not playing random enough returning serves the same all the time, lets hope we get a update this week to at least go back to the 31st October patch which was the best patch then ruined 24 hours later for the minority of complainers.
