AFL 23 - Megathread

I think you’re missing the point entirely, it’s a flagship game in terms of how pro team was developed and implemented. AFL is not going to be abandoned. Time will tell though

Let’s be real though, even if they did invest a lot of time and money into updating gameplay or management mode it wouldn’t make a return for them profit wise and for a lot of people the hype is dead for this game and even doing that won’t salvage it. (I’m sure many people would still find a way to complain lol)

I for one am a little disappointed with this recent update, I won’t shy away from saying that. I would’ve loved to have an update that was the same as the first one released last year (updated fixtures, rookies in but not scanned).

On the other hand I can understand why it’s like this, ProTeam takes a significant amount of time and resources and is clearly making a solid return for them. While I’m not a big fan of ProTeam and love management modes in sports games, I’m glad people are having a lot of fun in ProTeam.

There’s clearly a reason for every decision they make, whether we like it or not they’re actually trying really hard to make the most out of this game as it has come a VERY long way. Let’s hope they’ve got another one in the works and it can deliver. Also that in the near future the 2025 management mode does get an updated fixture, lists get updated and logos/guernseys get updated.:crossed_fingers:

If you haven’t twigged yet it’s not what you say it’s how you say it.

I would argue that people are enjoying the game if ProTeam is getting supported the way it is. Update after update because people are buying into it

I think there’s only two things we know for sure -

  1. BA care about AFL as a franchise. Even if you don’t like the game or the way they have gone about things, you can’t argue the game is abandonware. The servers would be offline and there would be no more updates just for starters.
  2. There will be another AFL game in the next couple of years. We’ve had one every 2 - 5 years for the past few decades, it’s not exactly a bold claim to make.

On the speculation front:-

  1. BA have started work on the next game - almost certain to be the case.
  2. BA will never be transparent again - 23 was one of the worst launches in Oz gaming history yet it’s probably the highest selling AFL game to date. Why would they ever go through that heartache again, including publish a launch date months out from the release.
  3. They took their time with PT and the approach worked - quite a few bugs sure but the quality between PT and the initial release has been night and day.
  4. Close to zero chance there is a new game this year - PT will have spent most of it’s time running during a single offseason otherwise.

After that I don’t think there’s too much more you can say that isn’t pure guess work.

Hey big ant i just realised Rhyan Mansell for richmond is number 7 not 31 please change this thanks

Is adding 60 generic players to teams really considered a “major” update? This game was promised to be comparable with FIFA and 2k yet can’t even keep team lists at 40+ players which is not reasonable/realistic at all.

I know there are much bigger issues as the Rugby/Tiebreak forums are in just as much disarray as this one, but this is a new low for BA. Shame because I have supported & defended this company for yearssss and now it just feels disappointing to realise every one else was right when making comments about BA. All love for everyone here and the staff putting in the hard work, but god forbid I hope BA never deal with an AFL game again if this how the community gets treated.

Hope everyone enjoys their 6 different versions of Trent Cotchin in Proteam :joy::skull:

Who said anything about a Major update?

Please add in all the new draft picks for all teams thats all we are asking

You literally said “There will be no major updates to management” in response to my questioning regarding rookies being added or a system where you at least give the community a chance to add them.

I’m just trying to possibly understand how adding generic looking rookies with 2025 draftees names to management mode could ever be consider a major update, I would assume that’s quite an easy fix considering it’s been happening on sports games for years (including BA games).

I appreciate you sitting on these forums and replying, it just doesn’t make sense how a decision not to add them has been made when the majority of questions are relating to adding rookies on all of BA’s socials. Just chuck the rookies in :joy:

More MetaBreaker Champions :eyes:
If you are new to Pro Team or haven’t played alot these are the objectives I’d aim towards, you may not have all required players but with the rewards for all variety of modes I think you’ll find you’ll earn them through packs or you can sell cards earnt and buy required ones on Auction house. Looks like you will have the rest of the season to get them done so combine your other objectives and you’ll find your level progression ticking over nicely as well. Happy gaming all :+1:

Is the auction house cards can only be purchased with coins you have to buy, or can you use the coins you earn from packs and playing games, I think it’s the FP ones you gain (could be mistaken)

Pro team coins (ptc) are the currency on the Auction House. You do not have to buy the coins if you don’t want to, as you can earn PTC from the players you sell on the auction house.
There is a lot of bargains as well, just got to keep an eye on Auction House.
Hope this helps :+1:

Almost certain is a stretch. There’s no guarantee they’ll have their license renewed.

Yep, whats that got to do with rookies? I didn’t mention anything about rookies but I said you are more than welcome to discuss it.

The second comment was to your comment about management mode, in which I said there would be no major updates to management.

Yeah I’m starting to feel this way also, this 2025 “update” is pretty disrespectful to the fan base and reeks of big ant doing the least amount of work possible so they can say they “technically” delivered an update for season 2025.

@JNT_BA Regarding the unscanned first year players, how is it any different to having unscanned VFL/WAFL/SANFL players etc in the game? Not criticising you personally as I know you’re not a decision maker, but hopefully there was a reason from higher up for this?
It may be inferior compared to how great the current scans that are currently in the game, but arguably would make the game itself superior due to being up to date.

Anyone else having issues with the new management update

It’s still coming up with last years fixture

Just going to put it out there that AFL Evolution 2 put out a season pack as DLC… costing $15 back in 2018…

Would people be happy to pay that again though? We did get the 2024 update for free.

Do you honestly think the AFL are beating off suitors for the license?

EA sell around just under 10m copies of Madden and FIFA each year, NBA 2K sells around 10m as well. AFL offers about 50k with 100k max on the table for the next ten years - we’re talking less than 1% of the revenue.

Further BA work for the AFL outside of the game itself and the Commission has repeatedly shown over the years that the franchise is a sundry interest at best. I think the persistent talk around their being competiton for the licence is dead set loopy.
