Hi Guys, wanted to drop my 2 cents in, because im not sure how long we have until EA6 and this thread gets locked. 100% stolen Val’s layout for the feedback because I like its cleaner look :joy:

Update overall is really great. Ive thouroughly enjoyed playing online. Fixed linouts, new animations, gameplay overall feeling much better. Lot of people mentioned being underwhelmed, but for a minor update I think this has been a great step for the game, and was worth the delay, so great job.

Added First Pass of Online Quick Match
Patch Note: “The first pass of EA Online quick match play with 5-minute halves utilizing any of the Early Access teams.”

Feedback:
PROS:
Have in total played 10-15 online matches now. And very happy to say I was blown away with the smoothness of the gameplay. I know with BigAnt being different dev’s from Rugby20/22 its not great to compare. But the online multiplayer in every rugby game has always been a laughably terrible experience. Rugby 22 is still barely playable online. So the fact that your 1st shot at online impletmentation has been so smooth and stable is a huge thumbs up.

  • I know a lot of people have mentioned crashes and thats now being tied to a Windows 11 update, and not actually a game fault on the face of it, but I personally havnt had a game crash in this update, ive had matches freeze, but its always been because my opponents game crashed, not my own.
    CONS:
Is the online perfect, no, but absolutely wasnt expecting it to be as good as it is, so overall happy but certainly a couple of areas to look at going forwards.
  • Tackling players after breaking the line can sometimes be impossible, and may not even allow you to select players, or activate either tackle.
  • Officials blend together at restarts and create a 3 headed monster, seems to spawn the touch judges on top of the refs position rather than sideline. (I remember in EA2 there was 1 spawn point for all players after a conversion and could see them all split apart on the replay camera, and I assume thats an easy enough fix)
  • Linouts dont always work 1st time, I think its more to do with calling the lineout steal correct. The ball gets thrown in and the animation plays, but then gets thrown a 2nd time to allow you to steal the linout.
    linout jump
  • Games on High MS, played a match with somone on 300+ ms, and was nearly impossible to land a tackle, it just became whoever caught kick off ran the length of the field to score, which lead to a 150 point game. Not sure if matchmaking should be limited to 200ms or if you guys are going to expand on it to fix the disparency in connection in the future. Especially when its out on console.
  • Incorrect passes - quite a few issues with target passing not hitting selected players at all, also had a number of passes go completely the wrong way. And also had 1 game where target passing was disabled completely for me, but not my opponent.

Added Camera Field of View Slider
Patch Note: “Adjustment of the field of view for the gameplay camera has been added to the settings menu, allowing the gameplay camera to be zoomed in or out from the default.”

Feedback: Really enjoy this being added. Gives a great level of customisation to each player to design the game they want to play. The extremes on the slider are pretty funny, especially the sideline camera being pitch height, im not sure I can see anyone playing that close up, but I love peope have the option if they like a challenge.
Something I would recommend would be to have a small example of what the FOV will be as you change it. Becuase just moving the slider doesnt mean anything on the settings menu, and you end up trial and error moving the slider. If you had an example window on the settings menu, the player can make changes in the settings menu and setup the match before playing. Example below.
Before

After

CON

  • I have an opinion that made a lot of people mad in comment sections, so ill say it again here to make more people mad :joy:
The FOV sliders from an online gameplay standpoint, can offer a huge advantage to one player over another. When using the side camera you have a small section of the field available on screen, it takes quite a bit of finesse to gauge kicking distances, and being able to realise if there is space in the back field or not, or whether the opponents Fullback is in position. Even on the highest FOV you can maybe get half the pitch on screen, and you cannot see the back field players. Example below, im france, I have no idea if someone is in bottom left corner on Australias side. So if i go fo a kick, unless I know the fullback is stuck in a ruck, my kick may bounce to touch, or i might be kicking it straight in the full backs bread basket.

However, when you play with the end on camera on highest FOV you can get a visual from your own try line all the way through to the opponents 22, so basically an extra 20-25% of the pitch on screen at 1 time. You also gain full view of the opponents back field, and as such you know exactly their position for their back 3 and can easily choose to kick to space to avoid the back field players.

So a player using a end on camera has FAR more useful information to be able to attack the space tactically. This has always been an issue in other rugby games with the 2 camera positions, and ive always considered playing end on to be playing a rugby game on easy because you have that extra information. But doesnt normally matter for playing single player against AI, play however you prefer.
From an online PvP experence though, theres a huge advantage to playing end on with max FOV. Having played with some of the guys on discord and seeing how everyone is playing, mixed with testing the camera angles myself, landing a 50:22 with end on camera on max FOV is a breeze, super high consistency, and collecting kicks over a defensive line is also easier. Mainly because you always know the position of the opponents back 3 at all times. As a player you cant currently position your back 3, nor manually cover the space easily on side camera, so knowing the opponents players posistions for one player and not the other is a very tricky to combat. And when testing, its not too difficult to create a cycle of (collect kick of - kick 50:22 - driving maul try - collect next kick off - repeat), which i would imagine would be rage enducing for an online match :joy:
Im not sure what the fix is, I mentioned in my video maybe the camera FOV’s being locked to a default in online matches only, but some people didnt like that idea. Another suggestion could be to add a toggle on/off small mini-map on to the side camera between player names showing you the position of players and which one one are playing as, and using the LB/RB combo to be able to select and move your fullback around offscreen, and just use the mini-map as a visual info tool.
Like I said people disagree with me on it, but from my testing, and also seeing how other people play, online games will probably be dominated by those using end on camera with full FOV settings. And people not using those settings rage quitting when 50-0 down at half time. :joy:
I also found the irony in people complaining about the Photogrammetry causing delays, and all the time spent on accurate kits, only to play the game a mile in the sky when using full FOV, so you cant even see the players face, and all the players are just 1cm tall guys in different coloured shirts.

Added Offside Line Options
Patch Note: “Added a setting to disable the display of the offside line or player indicators.”

Feedback: All brilliant, again great ability for players to customize their own games is great, lots of people asking for this feature! As a couple of other people have mentioned applying the same option to the ruck bar would also be great for a visual onscreen, unless the bar itself is going to be developed further in how vital it is for ruck winning.

Improved Lineouts
Patch Note: “Removed occurrences of a lineout ending with player tackles instead of a maul being formed.”

Feedback:

  • Lineouts all working great, no complaints against AI, only downside was contested lineouts in online matches doing the double throw thing. Really glad its all working properly now.
However following a linout, players still run away from mauls, which a few people have also mentioned. Been fixed before so im sure something will be fixed by EA6.

Improved Animation
Patch Note: “Further gameplay animation has been added, both for gameplay and various cut scenes.”

Feedback: New running animations look great, very subtle changes like the tilt in running really makes the movement look better. Had a few more tackle animations specifically in online mode that cant seem to do in solo play but also look good. New cinematics look nice.
Have seen a lot more issues with players phasing through other players when offloading or intercepting, seems that some annimations take priority over tackle animations and players can walk through each other. Offloading mid tackle can also result result in ball going through tackle, while tackled player does breakdancing on the floor trying to get to ruck animation but with no ball to play.

I would like to mention I think at the start of the match it would be better if players started from inside of the tunnel of each stadium and ran out on to the field. Can be kept exactly as it is now, but just add another 5-10 seconds before hand where they start at the tunnel and we see all th eplayers run on to the field. Because currently on a lot of maps they are lined up already on the pitch and then begin to disperse when already on. It was something that Rugby 22 did well.

Improved UI
Patch Note: “The flow of the UI has improved in some areas and changed to prepare for future features. Resolved issue with missing setting for sock height.”

Feedback: Took some time to grow on me but overall do like the shift. The backgrounds in the menu settings look better. And the team selection menu is more dramatic overall. A couple of the players do look shiny when selecting teams, which is what I think was bothering me whn I first saw it. It reminds me a little of lighting in Forza and how the light shines off the cars, as opposed to light landing on the skin of a person. But me being very picky, im sure there will be more tweaks as EA goes on.

Wallabies in particular jump out to me as having shiny skin, but the lighting does make the kits look much better.

General Stability Improvements
Patch Note: “A number of improvements to gameplay stability have been included in this update.”

Feedback: Personally havnt had a single issue on my end stability wise, I know its a different experience for a lot of other people. Had a few dropped frames, but nothing unplayable or any crashes. Only had the ball get stuck in a ruck online. Solo all working great.

Overall really enjoyed this patch. Online experience so much better than I expected, great foundation to build on, once rules, tactics and all the jazz are in. And online bugs and input delays are sorted. This will hands down be THE BEST online expierence of any rugby game ive played.

We’ve finally got a dev team making a rugby game that has an area to give feedback and they actually listen to it. Ill give as much feedback as I can to try and help when I have the time, had nothing to do in my lunch break today, so sat down and just smash out a response on the FAQ page.

The half time issue is still something we are looking into. So far there seems to be no consistency with it, device wise. One thing a few people have noted is it can tend to happen more often on 4k set-ups. For now I would suggest lowering it a resolution scale while we try to pinpoint exactly what it is. The handiest part is it seems for those being hit hit with it are getting it only half time which really helps us narrow down what it could be.

I did not know that this was added or when it was added, but got my first injury in a game. It said he got a concussion. That’s really cool, but I had no way of replacing him

Rucks, Rucks, Rucks, need work, has anything been said from the developers on this, and the future of the rucking system. Until the system is improved it feels like a League game. System is to simplistic and not enough control. There should be jackles, holding on, option to send 1-5 players, hands in ruck, coming in from the side, risk vs reward system, maybe an option to send in a closer back or a further away forward depending on the situation, quick bind vs heavy bind, as mentioned before the ruck is the heart of rugby and controls the pace of the game. Anticipating when to go all in the ruck or when to wait makes for a great rugby game. The rest of the game seems to be advancing at a nice pace. The rucking almost felt better during second or third major batch. Focus should be on a ruck overhaul. In rugby when you get a key turnover in a ruck, it almost as celebratory as scoring a try.

There has not been a word from them since day one so might just be how it will be because they seem to always ignore the question on Rucks so I think the system we have now is here to stay

Just wondering about photogrammetry. Some player models are really good (Ben Curry for example), but other teams such as the Stormers have the players, but its almost as if they were made in player creator and not with photogrammetry (Mannie Libbok and Damien Willemse for example). In comparison, the stormers players look dreadful in comparison to the sharks players who actually have some player likeness. Just wondering if this is a temporary face model for those who havent had full photogrammetry or if this is finalized.

Game is looking really good BA congratulations.
If possible could we maybe get zoomed in replays on high penalty tackles.
And possibly could we use the right analogue stick for goal kicks.
Your game looks impressive, well done.
