Rugby 25 Megathread

Scrums are broken no point.

Played some of the update yesterday and its desperately disappointing, turnovers are too easy now, positioning has not been fixed, and now kicking is ruined. I did notice wingers running onto cross field kicks, the offside tackler can tackle now and maybe some new catching mechanics which is nice but changing the kicking system is braindead behaviour. It was possibly the only aspect of this game which worked (despite others opinion, I found it actually easy to find 50/22’s etc) . Previously, it was possible to play a game of rugby in a player v player game through applying kick pressure etc so now that thats not possible. Offloads also so easy still, dont know why this is not tuned based on stats, props pulling off crazy offloads is so immersion breaking.

The patch still improves the game overall, even if there is still a lot of work to be done. But why add a new system for kicking? The old one was good, it was just necessary to increase the range of the kick. The game is becoming more fluid and it’s enjoyable. Besides, I encourage people to play several games because sometimes the improvements are seen over several games. The AI is progressing, it’s better, but it should play with the foot, and break the line less automatically. We need to improve the step and the 360 which don’t work often enough. On the sideline, often the 9 sends the ball into touch while I press the opposite button. Keep going and don’t give up, we will get there even if I repeat that there is still a lot of work to be done.

This update sucks!! Rucks is a mess i keep on losing it not knowing what to do to withold possesion. Most of the time i manage to get 4 players in then the opposite team only get’s one player in the ruck but they manage to steal the ball? I can’t even play more than 2 rucks without an turnover. There is no indication on if i am doing something right or wrong! Kicking is a step backwards. This game is a mess. I whised Big Ant never made a rugby game.

This update is very good especially in terms of AI Continue like that big Ant doesn’t listen to people who complain all the time. The game is of course perfectible, there are still flaws but you are on the right track. Now we should improve the foot, the offensive placement and the passes. Congratulations again for the recovery for a month and update and especially don’t go back for AI we need a very strong AI not to get bored and have fun during the games.

What’s “very good” about this update, genuinely curious

AI is really better, arrived in 1 week to give back pleasure to play against AI, it’s really curious as you say

The AI attack is definitely a little better. Are you saying that the kicking system changes actually work for you? You did say the update was “very good” with no exceptions.

No, I just want to say that since Wednesday I’m no longer bored playing against the AI, for me it’s the best advance but of course there’s still a lot of work to do includingj foot games, passes and defensive and offensive positioning, I’m much more optimistic than 1 month ago hoping that BIG ANT doesn’t go back on what’s good since the last 2 updates

Okay, so the update had some good things (AI attack) and some bad things (kicking has been ruined), not just a very good update. Okay I understand now.

Since Early Access and the official launch, the game has progressed. The AI, for example, is “better” than it was. But let’s be honest — we’re still nowhere near a realistic rugby union experience. It is pure nonsense.

There are still so many core elements that either don’t work properly, just feel off or which are not yet implemented:

  • Player positioning
  • Rules
  • still some bugs (passes etc)
  • Kicking
  • almost 0 difference between forwards and backs
  • Structured attacking and defensive phases
  • Useful mauls
  • meaningful set-piece strategies
  • missing photogrammetry
  • many more missing…

This game absolutely has potential, no question. But at this point — after three delays, several months of Early Access, over 20 post-launch patches — it still feels like the very beginning of Early Access. And for a game that’s supposed to be officially released, that’s frustrating for the community.

What’s even more discouraging is the lack of clear direction. We don’t know what’s being worked on, what’s planned, or what the dev team is prioritizing. Patches drop and I don’t even know how to react anymore. Honestly, the only thing left to say sometimes is to joke about Kelvin, “When Patch?”, or “Gripsocks” — because we’re not being given anything real to engage with imo.

I know JNT and Matt and all the team are doing their best, and I understand that communication is supposed to come from Nacon. But seriously — at this point, we just need a roadmap. Just some honest messaging like:

“we are currently trying to have this part perfectly implemented. It’s taking time. It’s not easy. But we believe in what we’re building. It will need X Patches. And after this phase, we will be able to add strategies etc…”

That kind of transparency would go a long way.

Once again, I truly believe the team at BA is doing their best. And I’m genuinely happy for the fans of cricket, AFL, tennis, and league who have solid games to enjoy. But as a lifelong rugby union fan… I can’t help but feel pretty let down right now.

When Patch? When GIFs?

lol haha

I am going be laughing at this post for long time

The kicking is probably one of the biggest patch related steps backwards I have yet seen in this game.

It is definitely the biggest one that Big Ant have ignored us all on and not spoken on at all.

Of course with us all being told that they have separate teams for separate games and departments you would think that they would apparently have people on this issue since it happened and JNT would have told us about it.

Is it a big coincidence that communication has faded to a small trickle since the release of AFL? Going at this rate once Rugby League releases we’ll hear nothing at all.

It’s already being looked at. It is not a new kicking system as some people have hypothesised. Unfortunately I’m all over the place at the moment on some other things. As soon as I saw it mentioned and some of you dm’ed me on here/discord about it. I got the team to jump on is asap. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to check in with them, I’ll check in with Matt if he has an update on it.
