Rugby 25 Megathread

Hello there

I’m hoping that the developers could change a few things in the game to make it slightly more realistic.

  1. Giving the option of a game plan (both on defence and attack). For example, defence, setting it to a rush defence or banana defence. On attack, choosing whether you wanna play a 1-3-3-1 system or 2-4-2 system or something like that.
  2. Having the AI make more realistic decisions. I have given away some penalties right in front of the post (where the AI was down with 2 points) and the AI decided to kick to touch.
  3. Also more realism with the game play. For example, there has to be more knock-ons from both my players and the AI and less successful offloads. With that the AI has to also commit more penalties. For example, I have played at least 25 games and probably only 2 games the AI committed a penalty.
  4. The kicking mechanics are also kind of bad. Why not slow the kick down like in “Challenge”. I sometimes try exiting and the player would catch the ball and take forever just to kick and when he kicks and weak and not where I was trying to aim. I would like to play the game as realistic as possible and running the ball out of your 22m is not that realistic.
  5. Then the fending off and bumping off is way over powered, on both the AI and my players. Why not lower the rate of successful bumps and fending.
  6. The kicking at posts are way to easy. Take the tragedy line away and bring back the Rugby 08 mechanics back. And have wind effect the ball path.
  7. When passing from a ruck, you need to choose our of 4 or 5 options and that sometimes slows my attack down after making a break and then the defense gets back into position. Instead of 4 or 5 options just have 2 options. Either to the pod to go close to the ruck (that would be part for selecting a game plan) or the a backline player out the back to make it easier to go wide. For example, R1 to the pod and R2 to the backline player at the back of the pod.

I have enjoyed the game and I thing the game has true potential. Some things still need to be sorted out and I understand that.
But when you play other sports game you are still looking for the realism of it and it’s slightly lacking in this part.

The things I have explained are in my head easy to fix, but I am not a programmer so I don’t really have a foot to stand on.

So please please could it be fixed.

Yep will still be tonight. I just haven’t pushed the Steam button quite yet.

Im new to the game. Decided to buy it as i couldnt wait any more and really wanted an up to date rugby game.

Im really struggling though. Im playing on easiest difficulty and losing by 40 points and with only 10% possession. in my last game i had over 60 missed tackles and 8 50/22s against me. is there any way i can change this or account for these.

Also would love an option to be able to fully edit the licensed teams.

Have you tried the tutorials? I know the ruck contests are random at the moment, do not commit all your players at rucks, but try to contest each ruck by first binding a player and then pressing the steal button, if you understand the general controls, you should be smashing the AI on easiest difficulty.

@JNT_BA Can we assume you are happy with the patch? Will we get the patch notes along with the Steam release or only later when it releases on consoles.

Definitely getting more enjoyable, the AI constant handoffs and perfect 50-22s are a bit much though

Regarding the new drive tackle feature, will that increase the possibility of that resulting in a high tackle and yellow cards as ma y suggested?
Can’t wait to try it once is out on ps5

Just played my first game on new patch! And enjoyed it. AI still killed me with the 50/22’s but what was really great to witness, was 2 dropgoals by the AI!!! Still playing, will give feedback on the rest later.

Still nothing from the creative team except women’s uniforms?

@JNT_BA any chance you could explain that 4th point in the patch notes? Really don’t understand it

Basically means you should not see messed up balls and things when the leagues are the same. Also set up for me to easy add something later I have planned without needing to change everything again.

@JNT_BA ok thanks for clarifying. So does that include things like the correct trophies being displayed for finals?

There should be a way of intentionally performing a foul play e.g. pushing down analogue stick will perform a high tackle / killing the ball in a ruck / collapsing a maul etc. These should be punishable around 80% of the time leaving a bit of a risk / reward for the defensive side.

2nd game in…I find the AI defense around the ruck area to be very exposed… Easy to run into the gap and with the offloads being as excessive its easy to exploid and score. Quick lineouts still broken unfortunately. And had the AI kick the ball into touch after 80 min with the AI trailing 28-14. Still no true contest under the high ball. Positive, when making subs it doesn’t seem to break anything anymore. Also feels like the support runners are better. Kicking also feels a lot smoother, will keep updating as I go!

So can you kick a bit further easier? And does the kicker still move forward when kicking and get tackled?

3rd game in…Lost the game lol. Which is a good thing. To add to everything I’ve mentioned so far. The game is getting a lot more enjoyable as we all know judging by the comment this last week. It’s making great progress but it’s the small things that’s still holding the game back… I’ll just add the positives and negatives as I keep playing and form a full feedback later. To answer @Nesreviac , kicking feels easier to do but still need a bit more distance(my personal feel) and yes the kicker still move forward when kicking and gets tackled, which sometimes is a bit anoying. but I think you can avoid that by rushing the kick more, which yes I know, isn’t really how it should be.

A crash seems to accure whenever substitution is beeing made while sub cutscene is played.

Happend to me couples of time.
I see the cutscene of the opponent substitution, so i remember to do it my self.
While the cutscene is still on i pause and do mine sub. After i unpause the game, it crash.

Thanks very much for the answer and yep it sounds like we’re both on the same page with what needs to be fixed there, but good to hear that its improved a bit.

So 50/22’s are still really frequent? Sad to hear if that’s the case. It’s painfully unrealistic right now.

Have they fixed the issue where if you try to push the score try button right on the line that it doesn’t register unless you’re before the line (1-2m out) or over the line?
