When you put a player in position to kick, he constantly run towards the ball, which is not logical. He should stay still, so he is away from the defens and have more time to kick.
If there was ever a contender for a hotfix, the general play and pocket punting is. It doesnât do what it says in the patch, the power from some of the best kickers in the world is still ridiculous!
Just take a look at Mad Dragonâs video. There is no way in this world that âPunt kick power better reflects player skillâ.
If there are going to be very few things fixed in a patch, at least actually fix them.
Also as in his video, pocket players are often wrong or donât actually move into position unless there are several repeated inputs!
Small funny mistake. The linesmans always randomly run to the middle of the pitch after a conversion or a penalty kick

Honestly Iâm starting to wonder whatâs going on with the last two updates. Stating things like:
(Last Week) âAdded Drive Tacklesâ
Tackles have been adjusted, allowing playout of drive tackle scenarios, resulting in greater ground gained".
That would have been interesting, if Iâd actually seen it happen in 10 games played. There was literally NOTHING different. And why âgreater ground gainedâ, wouldnât a drive tackle cause âgreater ground lostâ. Especially when the following is a description of a âDrive tackleâ.
âA drive tackle in rugby is a technique where the tackler aims to use their shoulder to make initial contact with the ball carrierâs abdomen or lower chest, then drive the ball carrier backwards, ideally finishing on top of themâ
This being added to last weeks patch was the one of the most vague and anonymous additions Iâve seen yet in this game. No explantion has come about from it at all.
This week we have:
âBalanced Punt Kicks
Punt kick power better reflects player skill.â
and
" Balanced 50:22
- AI now adjusts 50:22 plays proportionally by match difficulty; kick power better reflects player skill."
The 50:22âs have been toned down a bit which is good, but the kick power reflecting player skill???
The kicking game is ludicrously underpowered for the user and this patch did exactly nothing.
What is this incessant need for Big Ant to ruin the kicking game? Do they want the game to be more like Rugby League and have MORE Rugby League comparisons without the tactical kicking game that makes the sport Rugby Union, RUGBY UNION???
For goodness sake, get this message through
âMAKE TACTICAL KICKING EASY AND POWERFUL LIKE GOAL KICKING IS - MAKE GOAL KICKING MORE OF A CHALLENGE LIKE TACTICAL KICKING ISâ.
Preferrably using one of the kicking systems in AFL or Rugby League (which will probably be better).
PLEASE HOTFIX THE KICKING POWER TO ACTUALLY REFLECT YOUR PATCH NOTES.
Itâs not just me. I have not heard a single, solitary person say that the tactical kicking game is powerful enough. This has to be an easy fix, just make it more powerful!!!
While weâre at it, the pocket players need to actually be the 10 or 12 and have them get there quickly without needing repeated presses of the d-pad. I already know itâs asking too much for the pocket player not to jog into the opposition whilst kicking (which they NEVER do in real life).
If itâs hard to do this, then I really question the software this game is written on!
For goodness sake, actually deliver on your patch notes, thereâs not much there!!!
Doing some testing this evening with the punt kicks on xbox and noticing quite an obvious difference in the kicking potential between playing on end on and side camera.
When playing on side camera the circle jutters loads, and the time it takes to build power on the kicks feels like it takes so long to get to âmaximumâ (which feels underwhelming in this update) that the AI either tackle you and you either dont kick it, or you kick the ball mid animation of being tackled. OR you just about get the ball away but it makes no difference and the AI back 3 sweep it up like nothing.
Swapping to end on.
Jutter is still there but gets over it quickly. But the time it takes to get to maximum distance feels so much quicker. Not only can i have full power before being tackled, I have enough time to adjust the kick multiple times to pick the spot I want. Holding down the kick and maximum for longer also seems to increase the chance of end over end roll of the ball when you find grass.
The AI dont feel like they can rush your player in the pocket as easily so you have more time. BUT ALSO the AI wingers never seem to be in the back field so finding grass is easy as anything.
You can litterally swap between end on and side camera, and struggle to achieve any success on side camera, followed seconds later with breezily kicking a 30m kick to open grass that bounces end over end to award you a 50:22.
Ive also had more incidents on side camera when kicking the ball from hand with less power, the AI just catch it shortly after leaving your boot. But I havnt had that happen once on end camera, even when trying to get the AI to do it. I even had 1 where i litterally tapped the A button, barely kicked the ball, and the AI player ran over the ball kicking it towards his own try line and netted me 15 meters of territory for a lineout.
Im not sure what would cause the discrepancy, but thought its worth mentioning due to the consistency im finding it works. May also be just an xbox thing as not tried it on PC.
But as we know from previous updates the game can play out differently depending on side camera. And BigAnt prioritise End On. So might be a case with these kicking adjustments in the last month they have impacted side camera more negatively.
Even though seeing the response from most people on FAQ and comments is any of the punt changes in the last month or so havnt been enjoyed by the majority.
Oh also, numerous times tonight. Once you are in a maul, if you use the âForwardsâ target passing, using the trigger rather than the bumper. The scrum half will blast a 200mph pass in to the crowd, so i suggest only passing to the backs
Yeah, after talking to the team, there was some pushback on who will now be using what cameras for testing. So I found the person who hates it the most, and now itâs theirs to make better so they donât hate it. Watching the kick target go off-screen was a pretty bad experience.
Thank you very much to Mad Dragon as I think the camera view must be a big factor. Iâm on PS5 and on side-camera. We all play it on that here and thatâs about 6 players.
It IS indeed very jittery and juddery. It has very limited range (the best I can get is a 25m kick from Beauden Barrett for the All Blacks!). Though typically I gain about 15-20m downfield. International players at best can carve off 45-50m with their best long range punts.
Also on side-camera on PS5, most of the time the pocket player will not move into position or deep enough. Iâve just had players not move at all and theyâre playmakers and they AREâNT in the ruck!
And as always the meter bounces back if you do try for a powerful kick which then gives you a stupid looking 10m kick.
On this view, Iâm not even worried if the kick target goes to the edge of the screen as an indicator, as long as it would show me approximately what direction the ball is going that would be fine. I could still estimate kicking power if it was reliable.
Please, please, please fix this. This view might seem hard to use at first, but it actually gets better to the point that itâs very playable view-wise. Itâs also much better for 2 player local as the screen doesnât rotate.
I can only applaud the beautiful level of sadism to put the person who hates it most on the task, and force them to play it until they find it enjoyable.
That honestly sounds like a brilliant way for finding fixes internally. Even if it does feel like some modern version of a Greek tale, condemming a QA tester to forever test the thing they hate until they love it. Some Sisyphus parallels in there somewhere.
Suggestion im sure thats already been mentioned for kicking target going offscreen is when a player begins to apply kicking power, to have the camera zoom out slowly to reveal the end target distance up the field. Rugby 08/2011 did it well because the zoom in and out was slow enough you didnt really register that the camera was moving, and it was purely there to aid the gameplay.
Noticed a lot of kicks teavelling in the air too. I know you mentioned on FAQ this morning about building blocks for future updates, so im guessing this is the first instance of Wind effecting kicks midflight which is nice. But have noticed a tendency for the ball to act the opposite way depending which touchline you are on. So if you kick down left touch line, ball curls right and remains infield. If you then kick down the right touchline, if its the wind blowing, the ball should also go right and thus go straight out in the full. But instead it curls left and also remains infield, so the wind is going 2 different directions at the same time, rather than uniformally blowing one direction.
Unless you havnt done wind building blocks⌠in which case ignore that⌠and instead flag it as a new bug with kicks in this update

We need this ASAP. I am wanting to add the new persons chosen in the springbok team but because of the feature that prevents you from updating teams, I CANâT!!! Furthermore, the Springboks, the world champions have now got a new kit, and we canât even add it to the game.
It sucks because I also want to play as the British & Irish Lions as well as the BarBars but canât as I canât add the players of the teams.
This really does not do well for the game, makes me not want to play the game at all. Its such a shame as I really do like this game and think there is so much potential.
A small feature like this will do wonders for the game, I mean just look at cricket 24 and how we can add new players to teams, download from the community, update kits, refs etcâŚ
We havenât even gotten feedback as to when or if this feature is coming to Rugby 25, I would be surprised even we even get a reply to this.
At the moment, we donât have the ability to fully customise, edit, or change rosters and players to reflect a more realistic experience. This is a core feature that games like Cricket 24 already offer, and itâs something that should really be considered the bare minimum for a title aiming for realism and immersion.
In Career Mode, player transfers are currently very unrealistic. For example, seeing Carlos Brathwaite and Finn Russell joining teams in Poland and Bangladesh, respectively, simply doesnât make sense. These kinds of moves break immersion and take away from the credibility of the gameplay experience.
I wonât be continuing with the game until this is addressed. I hope this can be prioritised in an upcoming update.
I do agree with the players, with regards to General Kicking, it really sucks, and nothing about âBased of player skillsâ is reflecting that. How are we not able to kick 40+ metres out of hand with the likes of Handre Pollard/Damian Mckenzie etc and clear for touch? The trajectory for kicking should be further and easier. We really require a Hotfix on this no doubt.
Also what I want to know. With the software that you guys(BA) uses, can you not make the AI MORE INTELLIGENT OVERALL, this includes making right decisions, passing right times, kicking for space, or kicking for touch when under pressure, we honestly need INTELLIGENCE, because with the tweaking of âAI passing more, AI breaking tacklesâ it Still doesnt do the difficulties Justice, HARDEST is still weak to be honest When evenly matched teams.
We dont need AI âCheatingâ implementation, we need AI making INTELLIGENT and Best decisions especially on Hardest Difficulty.
And please reverse the fact that the AI plays on for long periods when its HALF-TIME, but when its FULL-TIME and they are behind, They kick out immediately. Doesnât make sense, no intelligent decision. I have other screenshots of issues as well, but I will wait for someone else to comment. At this point I play one game then I am done and put the console off sadly.
Hey @JNT_BA, another vote here for a hotfix to sort out the kicking. This really canât wait 3 weeks as itâs currently a game breaking issue. The general play punting use to be a real weapon however the change that was made about a month ago has really wrecked the ability to punt properly and consistently.
Iâd also argue that the AI kicking has been nerfed with this latest update. I donât think there was as big a problem with the amount the AI kicked more that they were super human with their distance and accuracy and only ever tried to do 50/22. On the small occasion they do kick now there is definitely better variety in the where the ball bounces and how it then rolls which is good however I just want to see the AI kick more regularly and with a variety of kicks. Now it feels like they are going back to hit ups and passing instead of kicking when they should. Can you also code the AI to drop the 10 to the pocket and kick when they are in their 22.
If we do get a hotfix this week please can you look at the bug where knock ons are not registering as a stop in play even when the ref blows his whistle

The knock-on thing (and the so-called âinjury stoppageâ) are extremely frustrating!
I also agree with the knock-on whistle and game going on. Needs to be fixed.

Everyone waited for a forward to come ruck, before they committed, so for that 1-2 seconds Kolbe just laid there
Also please look at the Ref, he was running in the stadium while needing to be in the game
What i still donât understand is how you can edit all international teams in Career mode, but you cannot outside of this. That still does not make sense to meâŚ
