Rugby 25 Megathread

Had a look at the conversion kicking today, just to wrap my head around what is actually happening. Why some games im going 10/10 and some im going 0/10.
Tested a lot of power and angles and understood it a bit more, so thought I would pass on some findings.
So in the tutorial zone, it feels like theres no wind, so the kick is just the kick itself. The power bar and the movement of the R analog stick is treated like the players leg.
So the power bar only builds up as you near the ball and you only have until the boot touches the ball to build up power.
Its not the same movement on the stick as it has been since the swap from the Y button. The biggest difference is final resting position of the R analog stick on the controller effects the resulting kick more than the trjectory of the back to front stick swing.
IF you think about it as the very top center of the stick placment is the ball, the final position of the stick is where your players boot hits the ball. So if you are using a right footed kicker. And you end up slightly left of center with the stick. You are effectively stricking the ball with the outside of your boot, and the ball goes right even though you went left.
And the exact opposite, if you end the stick right of center, its like you hit the ball with the inside of your boot and so it flies left.
Once you get to grips with what it wants from you, you can actually put the final white target line anywhere and miss on purpose in the correct direction and still score, such as the gif below.
kick
Filling the power bar up more obviously does add more power to the kick, but feel like it adds some sort of additional chance to the kick wildly missing. Ive noticed a better ratio of successful kicks, by pushing the stick forwards slower that the “immidiate flick” the tutorial suggests. Because the end resting place of the stick is more important than the trajectory or speed of the movement.

There are other outliers. In a match, there is also Wind arrows on the ground, which seems to play a part, theres still no way in the game to know how much wind speed there is, only direction of the arrows. And it feels like rather than the wind carrying the ball slowly mid air, its more like the wind impacts the ball the millisecond it leaves the kicking tee, and heads in that direction.

Ive also noticed something a lot more “off” when you play with Italy. I cant work out if maybe because Garbisi is left footed, something isnt registering correctly, maybe I just happen to have really bad luck or skill issue on my end with him. But for some reason I have got kicks from directly infront of the posts, being shanked 45 degrees in a direction and missing the posts completely. And can end a game 0/10 successful kicks. But in the same match, swap to the opposition France team and score 100% with Ramos from way out on the touchline.

Kicking ability isnt bad for Garbisi, hes rated 90. So i can only think the left footed thing is adding some additional element ending in odder outcomes.
Even in the training mode, I have had 1 or 2 just zoom off on a 45 degree angle, and cant think what was different between that 1, and the 10 successful kicks either side of it.

Also think it would be good in the tutorial bit, to have a “free placement” of the ball, anywhere on the field, so people can test harder kicks, rather than just always infront of the posts.

Sorry if anyone has already mentioned any of this. Theres been like 180 posts on this thread since I last checked, so might be some cross over.

When I saw the AFL kicking I really liked it. Thought it wouldve been great for a rugby game. Would feel more like the older rugby games with a QTE button tap.
I never minded the stick flick thing since I first had it in Rugby 20.
I have always just felt like you either suck at it, or never miss one once you are good enough. Whereas button inputs you can mess up on a bit by accident.
Still havent picjed up AFL to try put the kicking. But from what I saw of others videos I does look good to me.

Is it just me, or has the AI defense improved with the last patch? Cant remember whether it was mentioned in the notes and havent played since the update, but they seem to now have a solid defense with good line speed.

That does mean that AI vs AI has now become worse, since the defense is better, but the attacking AI is still pants. If you fixed the TMO/held-up issue, then it would be ok, but legitimate tries are being denied by the ref, AI has no lines/moves/strategy on attack to counter the good defense, and there is still no proper rules implementation, which means that there are not enough penalties awarded to advance down the field or grab points.

Those are 3 things I would ask you prioritise. I know lines and/or tactics is being worked on, and TMO should be a quick fix, as it was working before. Rules implementation will likely only come later as rucks get fixed, etc.

Edit - Also ZERO kicking game from the AI does not help. Kicks already exist, AI just need to be programmed to properly use them on attack (and defense for that matter), to use the grubber, chip kick and cross kick more often, when the situation demands, allowing them to get in behind the defense.

I wonder if Ross himself has had a crack at the current “dynamic” goal kicking system in the game (after 3 attempts to score a try with held ups)? Would be interesting if he did and had the same experience as the rest of us! Might suddenly see a patch out!

I doubt haha, he is currently in UK for… League.
Maybe some photogrammetry planned for SA and Argentina, as the game will be in Twickenham ?

When dirt like in RL26 ?

Meanwhile, in R25…

Evening guys, anyone able to do this logo for me. Many thanks

Ok I reckon I’ve been a bit harsh with the game lately.
Just played two games in Hardest, and I reckon I saw some “fun” again.
Bapean, don’t you dare believing in this game again you doof!

We all have been. Not saying it’s a great game but with some key updates, it could be half decent

Once again, Rugby 25 draws the short straw. Seeing how much better similar functions are implemented in the other two sports just adds to the frustration . I’m trying so hard to like this game (having paid €60 for it), but I rarely manage to finish a match because there are still so many issues. Improved place kicking would have been a huge boost, but instead it’s just become more annoying. Six months and counting, the wait goes on.

Completely agree, the lack of general play kicking distance kind of exposes the unfortunate lack of knowledge about real world club and international backs.

Mmmmh still a long road ahead to have a finished game, but since yesterday I actually have some fun again. Even if there are still a lot of pants things, there are some cool bits in this game.

Telea scoring a try at 78’. 20 - 21 fçr the ABs. Late win for Argentina thanks to a drop of Santi Carreras at the 83’.

The rucking animations of Rugby challenge series not good, except for the isolated tackle, stand and Jackle, that was done almost to perfection, but the mechanics of it were pretty good, when I would go out wide and get isolated I would quick bind follow up by heavy bind to help retain the ball, not to mention you could hold on until help arrived risking a holding the ball call,

Bapean: I like that Argentina 23 vs New Zealand 21 score line for Saturday. Looks like its going to be the last Rugby Championship in that format. Not happy about that. Lets go Pumas!!
