Rugby 25 Megathread

I have noticed this a bit with forwards running like wingers, but have noticed when passing along the backline that some players clearly faster and stronger than others. Have only played about 8 games and so still getting a feel for it.

The AI is so disciplined it never gives a way a penalty which makes the game so unrealistic

The players move like tanks, very hard to control them with any accuracy

Thank you for your feedback, and for amending your post to acknowledge that we did not develop Rugby 22. Despite what people may think, there’s much more to it than just “implementing” something from a game that is not ours. How would we credit someone for their hard work on this system, when we’re unsure who played a part in developing it 3-4 years ago?

To say that we’re not monitoring feedback and taking community feedback seriously is completely false. On this forum alone, there are a series of posts (including some from yourself) that come in at over 800 words. Keep in mind, that this is not the only place we’ve been collecting feedback from - there is extensive input from these channels too. Disseminating useful and actionable feedback from all of these sources does take time.

There has been a lot of insightful and useful feedback already gathered, but that doesn’t mean they all align on how to approach things. There may be 5-6 suggestions on how to approach a single element, and the development team then has to determine which of these results in the ideal outcome - and again testing these does take time.

Thank you Lachie, good to know
It feels like at the moment there are different version on different systems? The latest xbox-s version seems like it improved passing but the rucks took a step back V2451 vs V2479. On steam version seems like both passing and rucks were improved some? v2411 vs 2457.

You’re absolutely right here.

While we gathered as much feedback as possible during Early Access, some people like yourself engaged with the game - but didn’t always reach out with feedback. We also had people who engaged with the game and gave feedback, but it wasn’t always useful. Hearing things like “make ‘X’ & ‘Y’ element better”, doesn’t give us or the development team much to work with.

While Early Access was limited to Steam, the Full Release meant that the level of feedback, player insight, and overall number of players engaging with the game grew exponentially.

Constructive and Actionable feedback is why some of our other Early Access releases, have been able to get to a place where the community feels satisfied with the feel of the game, and regularly see improvements with each update.

PS5 online, 50/22 aren’t been given

Tom Bowen missing in Cardiff Rugbys Roster

In the 6N the Welsh home games aren’t been played in the principality stadium but a default stadium

Seem impossible to win a ruck with tired/low rated teams vs Ai

Being tackled over the try line with clear grounding doesn’t award a try

Offsides are still very inconsistent, can often tackle offsides and there is no offsides when kicking

Can only pick from a small selection of stadiums in the online custom games

I don’t want to sound disrespectful at all I own many big ant games afl , cricket, tiebreak and enjoy them all . But it shouldn’t take the community to tell you and the team that a rugby union game can’t and should not play like a rugby league game. The passing and ai is just rugby league live . And although you can’t implement rugby 22 system you can definitely watch some footage and see how that plays like union. A tactical kicking game, wing play , running lines, adding players to rucks , multiple different types of penalties. Even games on PS3 had this rugby challenge etc . Updates fixed tiebreak to a very impressive level and hopefully the same can happen here .

Played the latest Xbox series X update this morning, some quick thoughts on key aspects:

Rucks

  • players slow to join even if next to it and pressing the button
  • scrum half slow to react
  • turnovers shouldn’t always result in open play, should be a mixture of open play or turnover in ruck
  • need to have an button to hold on in the ruck, or to try to steal illegally to make it lifelike (source of a lot of penalties in real game)

Passing / Open Play

  • deep pass (double press) works quite well for moving ball down the line, but still feels a bit slow
  • trying to pass when running side on often results in ball to ground / touch (some instances are ok, especially with forwards, but high occurrence rate currently)
  • add some rotation to the ball when passing for more realistic touch
  • Runners pre determined line is hard to escape and often goes into defenders not open spaces as intended

Other

  • stamina goes down faster than it should when running a line break and defenders catch up very quickly
  • AI fends / hand offs have increased, which is good but needs a balance not to replicate earlier EA faults
  • AI not passing the ball still
  • rules need a closer look at, specifically knock ons, offside, high tackles (this needs a change, 50% of tackles look high but nothing ever called)
  • kick out on full rules don’t always get the correct referee decision
  • when referee calls a decision, shouldn’t be so quick to cut from the screen to referee, some players reaction would be a nice touch
  • tackling animations don’t always look natural, eg tackle on player running away sometimes ends up being a front on tackle. Or, getting tackled running to side of player and into a gap often has tackler hit backwards, when it would be more sideways and some minor territory gain
  • Add advertisements (real or fake) to grounds in play now, for example, Gallagher Prem looks great in career mode but quite bare in play now gameplay
  • Buttons to dive on loose ball needs work, or easier to select the players, often the players just look at it and AI picks up

Keep it up, enjoying the games and has potential for a lot more.

I dont have Steam but have been keeping up with the updates. What baffles me is that the console version is worse than many of the Early Access builds. Missing features like 50/22 and contesting lineouts. All the console versions have different version numbers. It’s like console version is starting from scratch rather than all the progress of the EA. Don’t get it but the progress in 5 days gives me some hope. Passing, kicking, lineouts and rucking need the most attention for now.

The new update is still unplayable. They’ve tidied up a few things but now the rucks don’t work lol. Once one thing gets fixed another problem comes up.

@Lachie_BA is there any plans to inplement 7’s and to unlock the licensed content for use in custom teams in the future?

Can anyone please tell me what button to press on the controller to get the “substitutions mini menu” box up on the screen while playing on the field ? This is for PS5 button layout. I have done this before but forget what I was pressing. Thanks

This is on hard difficulty. Manage to score brace of tries. Games seems free flowing when you master the controls. Just bought the game today. Really enjoyed playing it.

Respectfully, I hope today’s patch isn’t another empty promise like the day 1 patch

So far, not great.

I’ve played and owned every rugby game since Rugby 06. It’s crazy to think there’s been nothing that compares to Rugby 08 since.

I’ll start with what I like, or don’t mind. Player likeness, not perfect but a step up to anything we’ve had before. Licenses, great, again not something we’ve had as comprehensively before now. Although, I don’t see myself jumping at the chance to play as Brazilian club teams or Belgian teams etc… Some of the animations and cut scenes are okay.

What isn’t great/needs drastic improvement: Gameplay, simply not good enough. For those who like a fast paced exciting game of rugby using width and attacking runners, this is virtually impossible to achieve. I can’t get more than a pass/2 passes if I’m lucky befit being tackled. It feels stiff, not reactive enough, and not enough attacking options to allow you to play anything meaningful or in any resemblance to actual rugby. They really need to increase the sensitively as right now it feel heavy and not reactive enough.

Passing - passing isn’t great, even the animations for passing is poor. As mentioned, there’s no much sensitivity to it. So if you click pass, you will be tackled before you can get a pass away. The players run too hard off of 9 meaning there’s no chance you can get an extra pass in. Not fun for those who want to try to play the ball to space. Not enough options ie pass to back line or use forwards - just seems chaotic with backs/forwards just playing anywhere all the time. Also, passes often are really inaccurate and just go out of play even when there’s a player in position to pass to.

Rucking, I do t actually see what the point is - you add players to ruck and it doesn’t mean anything as you cannot turn the ball over - you just end up defending for what feels like 100 phases with the CPU AI just passing to one off runners off of 9 over and over again until maybe eventually they kick the ball back to you. They should create a window for as soon as the tackle is made in which you can try to steal the ball. If you mistime it then penalty etc… the add or remove players should work - I add 3 to a ruck and they only have 1, then I should be winning that ruck… it’s just stupidly meaningless at the minute and doesn’t impact the game or possession.

Kicking, box kicks are fine. It’s trying to kick in open play that’s difficult. Similar to the passing, the sensitivity it’s not great so you are tackled immediately before you are able to get a kick away. Realistically in real life you’re 10 would drop into the pocket to kick away. If they can turn down the sensitivity of tackling I allow you more time to pass/kick - add in dropping into the pocket then it will drastically improve things.

Tackling, they recycled most of the animations from RLL4. So it’s not great and there’s not that many variations. As mentioned, the tackling is frustrating if you are anywhere close to an opposition player you cannot pass or kick due to a tackle animation starting - they really need to fix this and de-sensitise this animation as it’s killing the game and preventing you from playing actual rugby.

The game will never be 10/10, but if they actually fix the above, then who knows, this may just about be playable and/or enjoyable. But there’s just so much that needs fixed, I have no hope for this game.

Hi there,

It’s currently a major Bug since the patch over the weekend. The players you add will disappear if you play any kind of casual match or any coach career even if the teams you play with are not related to the teams you added players into the squads.

  • Also if the game is switched off and then turned on again at a later time, all the teams and squads you added additional players into will remove them and go back to default squads.

I raised a Ticket on this over the weekend. I hope it gets fixed very soon as it’s quite annoying. Ticket #27999

Thanks Lachie the hard work out into the game is very much appreciated, must be so complex’s, think patience is the key :+1:
