Hi Team ,

I thought I should ask this question whether or not you are allowed to give a response I not sure ?

I was starting to undertake massive editing of the stats of everything single URC and Premiership rugby player.
If the game is updated in the future will these edited stats be changed to current player form stats ?

I was changing speeds of Props and Hookers particularly. Seeing many players in this category at 70/100 speeds. To me not realistic. Increasing Speeds of backline players too. Looking at various player skills and adjusting on what I think the attribute should be. I not sure if I wasting my time but thought I ask the question, maybe at this stage an answer can not be given which I understand.

I guess I trying put some life in the game and get the Ai to also play better as for me when I currently play this game I usually feel confident I can win every match.

  • There is not enough smart attacking rugby by the Ai and kicking distances lack power to do any proper tactical kicking as a user or Ai.
  • Flyhalfs are subdued due to a lack of kicking power.
  • Wind conditions also do not influence ball trajectory distances with general kicking / punting

@Rugbygamer40 obviously JNT will have the best answer but the way I understand it, when you edit a player it creates a copy, which is the one you use in game. The default player is still in the database in case you revert your edited player back to its default state. If BA update players then it only changes the default player in the database and not your edited player. @JNT_BA is this correct?

I’d be interested to know how you get on with changing the speed stats and what it does to gameplay. I’ve been thinking of doing the same using ChatGPT.

Good to hear your opinion on this issue.

Just to explain. The game currently on PS5 does not make a copy of edited players. For example. The Bulls i started editing stats this morning in URC, the top 20 players by rating. There is only one version of all these players. If there was a copy I pretty certain it would go into “my players” As you can see there is zero players in my players list with a Bulls and URC search filter to list them.

My players section is for your own created players. I have 1271 custom created players. I do have my own “Created” custom versions of most of these Bulls players but They are not the edited licensed or face scanned players.



@Rugbygamer40 I’ll have to check it out properly tomorrow but yeah it’s very strange that it doesn’t create a copy of the player in the My Players tab. I’m sure this is exactly how it is meant to work. Maybe I’m just thinking of Cricket 24. Hopefully it can be sorted out in a future update as it would suck to make loads of changes and then they be lost.

Yes. Great points. I probably spent around 60-70 mins in total just editing stats for 50 licensed players for the Bulls. Maybe a bit too much time but I was considering doing a future campaign with them if the game gets updated for Kits and new squads in URC.
I guess it depends on how much one cares about all player stats for various teams in a competition.

Currently all previous Rugby games published by Nacon are available(18 “install-to-play”, 20, and 22), and also from BA: AFL 26, Tiebreak, Cricket 24… It would be so great to add R25 to the list, thank you! Here is how to do it, but you know already :wink::

I understand you.
I want to edit all international player stats, but I haven’t done anything yet because I don’t want to waste my time editing such a mount of players for nothing.
Also, not being able to take licensed players off the team is really annoying. There are international rosters in R25 from 2022. A lot of players are not currently playing for national teams, but you can´t remove them, so it is impossible to have the squad up to date.

Oh, and I wish I could create a 32-team World Cup format, because I have a feeling if BA implements this it would only be for 24 teams.

So, please, please, I need a very big custom competition offer! (Even and odds teams, league and cup format with the possibility of 150 teams, and so on).

Gameplay…

For me the gameplay just still isn’t hitting the spot. It doesn’t scratch that itch I have for a good free flowing rugby game. It still feels too clunky.

A ruck should be won with 2 players… 3 at absolute max. Why do I have to put my whole forward pack in just to keep the ball? Then there are not enough attackers in open play. If you are passing to a pod of 3 forwards then the 2 supporting players should be enough to secure that ruck.

Speaking of pods… the forwards are not in any logical formation. I want to be able to hit a pod of forwards with my 9 with option to tip the ball to my supporting inside and outside forward, or pull it out the back to the backs behind the pods. Have forwards running off of 10 as well. Right now I can’t see any sort of shape or methodological system to play through.

Side steps - they are basically pointless, they slow you down so much that you are caught instantly. Watch any speedster in real games, when they side step they are quick and nimble and aren’t then just caught by the next defender - the animation and speed could do with a revamp.

Supporting player runs, AI should get them to run where the space is, too often when looking to pass through the hands or execute a 2 on 1 or find edge of defence my attacking players run too short off the man with the ball and the same defender I am trying to fix can just tackle them with ease - they are either too deep or too flat as well.

CPU players breaking tackles constantly without even using fends or steps. Yet my players NEVER break tackles without the use of a step or fend etc. it’s completely unbalanced. It is a nice feature as big ball carriers etc will break tackles but it just needs balanced better.

You need to add in more things that cause penalties or knock ons. I can go whole games with no penalties or scrums for either team on a regular basis. If you watch rugby, there are constant penalties- ruck infringements are the main one. Can there be a balance where too aggressive or going for turnover on a secure ball results in ruck? Something like that.

I probably do have more stuff that I could talk about that would drastically improve the games experience, but these are my main points, as for me gameplay is the most important thing. Don’t get me wrong some of the animations are good, and at times the game play feels okay, but it just doesn’t quite feel like a game of rugby, and therefore as I said, does not scratch that rugby itch.

Otherwise, decent points. Especially around the ruck numbers. Default should be up to 3, an additional method to pull in additional forwards outside that like JNT mentioned once. Holding down the button for 4 and 5 etc.

*expect reasoning as to why you can’t dislike 5 man rucks and you just need to learn how to play sort of comment soon from someone lol.

@Rugbygamer40 , Madcap2110 ,Keo great minds think alike - I’ve been holding off player stat editing as well in case I invest time in it and then a squad update comes out that wipes all my edits.

Out of interest - @Rugbygamer40:

-what stats are you editing to make the most difference? Likely the “mental” ones I’ll probably skip.
-Have you seen much of a gameplay difference yet?

  • I’m also thinking of drafting a “basic” stat template for each position, then adjusting from there based on player size/ability (are they an international, club journeyman, etc. are they obviously known for a particular play style, are they heavy/light vs most others in their position etc)

@JNT_BA I fourth a request if you could clear up whether edited player stats will revert if you guys ever do a roster update?

Speed, Acceleration, Agility, Strength

Focus, Determination, Discipline

Scrum , Break Tackle, Fend. Tackling

Kicking abilities

I haven’t seen any major changes yet because I have not done it extensively for every player in a competition yet.

I did some editing across Pro D2 but it was mostly wingers and centres to make them faster. I have seen them gain more ground and be a more attacking threat near the Try line with their quicker running.

I feel to really experiment and make this editing work it needs to be done extensively to all player positions across a competition.

Yes I like your approach to look at a players history with their abilities and to make some sort of template. I use “All Rugby” to look at player history and some stats.

It’s a long process to do this editing. I am trying to put “Life” into this game and trying to pick up / help the “Flat” Ai as Mad Dragon recently accurately described in his YouTube video.

I chose to put myself into semi retirement from work at a semi young age from last year to get more involved in this game in the hope to enjoy it , but it’s been challenging the last 18 months to really “enjoy” the game as it has struggled with so many issues particularly challenge/difficulty. But I appreciate the work being done by Jordan and his teams to fix the game with the resources he has. We can only help and try to figure out and experiment with more solutions.

I am really struggling in online quick matches to tackle with circle (on PS5), ping c. 50 however on defense it just does not tackle. Any method or something I am missing.

Any word on the women’s rugby world cup or did that boat sail and it’s a case of better luck next game release?
