Rugby 25 Megathread

Hi Team,

Feedback on patch.

  • Ai has only improved slightly in attack. I noticed passes now go to Fullback, Flyhalf, various players in backline aswell as Forwards. This is good but they still don’t do multiple passes or offloads. Not many long passes either to attack. Also Ai attack is slow. Hardly any break tackles. It’s too easy to defend against Ai. I playing on hardest difficulty. I haven’t even seen the Ai scoring a Try against me in many weeks. This is a major issue and it’s making the game pretty dull and not challenging. The Ai needs more opportunities to gain territory, tackle breaks, penalties, kicking 50/20, and the coding to be programmed to make them attack a lot more better.

  • Again I feel the problems with Ai attack issue is partly because generally stats are inaccurate because they are not individualised per player across the game. You basically got all licensed players all with similar attack and defence stats across all positions. Never have i seen a standardised stats/skills for players in a sport or rugby video game. What it’s creating is a “Deadlock” especially when Ai attacking and you defending.

  • I played as Wallabies Australia team yesterday. It was frustrating not being able to add additional players into the team. I wanted to put other Australian players in the team to play a match but I could not. Also injuries are starting to mount across all teams in real life in Super Rugby Pacific, we will see more players added to play in these teams in real life. Again , frustrating we can’t make our own squads and add players before we start a competition/ coach career we have created such as junior players or part time player reserves not in full time squads.

  • Ai does not use substitutions. Appears it’s not programmed in. I know it might be complex to programme when a substitution might be needed and depends on stamina ? I hope you can get this right in the future.

  • Injuries. It’s annoying seeing that Ai do not substitute injured players. Again this makes them less able to win a match. Seriously injured players stay on the field.

For me I love the graphics and presentation of the game. The coach career, Judiciary, injuries, Creation tools, Fan Hub, licensing.
But we are really struggling with Ai attack and a challenging difficulty. Freedom to edit licensed teams to add custom players or remove players and editing licensed player stats

Thanks team

I will always be the first to commend good work and progress made, but the new patch does nothing it promises.

The complete lack of substance in updates really erodes confidence that the team have a grasp on what the problems are and how to actually resolve.

Unfortunately it’s no longer a question of “will the game ever be fixed?” But rather “will the game remain in its current form or get worse?”

Such a pity as a significant amount of people wanted this game to succeed. It’s just hard to get behind something that is so far from what it should be as a minimum. I don’t agree with the ethics of charging full price for an early access build that either marginally improves or significantly worsens.

If it were only a dozen issues that were patch by patch getting fixed it would be easier to feel a sense of patience, but it’s dozens and dozens of issues and some are improving (player support is most of the way there) and others (passing itself) are going backwards with floaty, glitchy passing appearing in every game.

There are so many more issues though.

Side Cam angle height needing raised and skill moves not working properly on it.
Offside and Forward Pass rules are wrong.
Player positioning from set pieces is poor and 9-10 get smashed before getting the ball out.
9 and 10 are too sluggish and lacking in agility on reception of the ball.
Glitchy passes often after targetting with the passer glitching and teleporting back forward and back.
Floaty passes.
Targeted passes sometimes lagging so bad they sometimes go to no-one and roll along the ground.
Mauls being largely ineffectual.
The Maul on reception from a kick off, if you add with circle, attempting to add a third player will just grubber kick.
Scrums go on too long (can we choose to skip all the packing down?)
The AI still just one passes 95% of the time.
Rucks aren’t really an understandable game or contest. Results appear random mostly.
You can only add 3 players to a ruck.
Players bunch around the ruck in unhelpful, unrealistic positions.
Targetted passing often just targets a nearby pod of forwards rather than a near forward and the other ones being backs.
Player skills cannot be edited.
Custom players cannot be added to any team.
Custom Tournaments are limited to 8.
Custom Competitions cannot be created.
Goal kicking is bland, easy and doesn’t require timing like the better EA goal kicking of the past.
Player names do not appear after scoring tries, just player positions.
The commentary is often a mess with incorrect statements about very simple scenarios (if a player has kicked the ball out from a penalty for example).

These are just some, just what I can recall as issues. It’s hard to have faith when you have a list of common issues as long as that and then they work on one of those areas (passing) and it goes one step forward and another backwards. It makes you wonder, how will they ever in 6 months of patching get through the rest of it!!!

Still, there has been some improvements and there is still hope, there are good areas of the game. I really do think they owe us an extra good patch on the next update after some elements of this one! I’m hoping the Friday patch (NZ time) ends up being 2 steps forward for a change!

sideline detection needs attention. Unfortunately this was given as out

I am not seeing any noticeable improvements from the recent patches. The only mechanic that seems to be working consistently for me is the pocket kicker. Everything else feels pretty much the same as before, there might even be more issues with the passing honestly.

It’s frustrating that I have to stay glued to threads every day, hoping for fixes. I’m starting to feel like I have a second job as a QA tester for an unreleased game, instead of just enjoying it.

It looks like once they have the core game figured out. There will have to be sliders, because there are quite a few contradicting statements. Meaning, Users/players like different things. I like a real simulation like play, others more arcade, but that is ok, with sliders you can achieve this. Some like more quick set scrums, others like me like Scrums that have some importance and have a deep system that make a difference in game like real rugby. Honestly the Rucks which I have hammered the Big Ant team on, on and on, I believe has improved considerably, there is still a way to go but I can tell they are listening, must be difficult to satisfy everyone. I try to specialize in analyzing rucks, the rucks are starting to make sense, they have a long way to go , but I can see the system working. Once they have it fine-tuned, and if they can add up to 5 in the ruck, I can see it turning into a very good engaging system that is different from past games. Here is what we need from the rucks:

Allow up to 0-5 in the ruck : this allows for quick ball or slowing the play down so you have time to set up a play. The ability to add 0-5 players determines how quickly the ref will say use it. If you want more time, then add more to the ruck. But take in mind you are risking a push over if you do. Risk vs Reward system.

The timing of when steals happen on the 3/4/25 steam patch seems to be working good on hard with 2 evenly matched teams , the amount of turnovers is good, if you like simulation like play. Again, take into consideration AI is still playing very conservative mostly keeping the ball tight, which should allow for less ruck turn overs because they have lots of forward support, with no passing out wide, once the AI starts passing out wide, turnovers will be more often,(and most don’t want ping pong rucks)so it is good if ruck turnovers are low with the way the AI is playing now. In saying this if you spin the ball out wide with no support, you should get turned over. So what happens in ruck depends a lot on what players do. That is why it can vary so much and we need sliders. For me , if I play realistic type rugby, it feels the outcome of the rucks are fairly accurate now. Still need tuning but it is fairly accurate.

Contest Y tackle stand up and steal, is not working, and I am sure will be implemented at some point. This should be counter balanced by offense ability to hold on with chance of being penalized, Rugby Challenge 3 nailed this. Check it out. Also hands in the ruck, should be implemented. Also nailed down in Rugby Challenge 3.

Many say, why can you only add 3 every time, I hope people realize you can add anywhere from 0-3 (should be 0-5) but you can add 0-3 , I often just add 1-2 on offense and on defense only 0-1 when I know, I have no chance in the ruck. Rucking is a game of patience and striking at the right time. The game is starting to reflect that , just needs more variations in animations and implementation of penalties, and ability to add up to 5.

Scrums need a better reward system when you execute well. The system is good, the outcome is not. The AI needs to get penalized a swell in the scrums. But you should be able to gain ground or cause the other team to be penalized by collapsing the scrum, or other scrum infringement, there is no other way to do a good simulation scrum, without a mini game , because scrums are essentially a mini game, even in real life, just makes it more exciting when you are rewarded when executed well. If the scrums would be meaningful, then, I thinks more player would not mind the time it takes to play them. So I am all for turning them into a deep miny game, and for those that don’t like scrums a simple system of which graph goes higher is fine, option of simplified scrums vs deep scrums, hey they have done that with lineouts, in Rugby 08. 2 systems, one more sim one more arcade. But either way players want to see some good results come scrum time.

As mentioned by many, passing needs tuning , but I think this will be fixed, no doubt. Big Ant has lots of experience with this, so its only a matter of time.

Up and Under: have been playing many other Rugby games, the up and under is better in all of them. The ball needs a higher arch trajectory so that a good kicker has, at times, the possibility to chase his own kick, or time for his own team mates to get under the ball without being offside. It feels like a prop is doing the UP and Under every time.

So thank you Big Ant, (for listing to some things)
Look forward to more updates, and yes I think it is moving in the right direction, just wish it would be with greater leaps. Keeping the faith, while playing this and other Rugby games while this one continues to improve.

Hi BigAnt,

Just wondering when field markings and advertising will be coming to the game? At the moment it feels pretty bare playing Super Rugby on Career or Competition mode and there are no logos on the fields, no Super Rugby ball and the refs are wearing the basic BigAnt uniform

Is there plans to add these elements to the game along with the advertising in the stadium, on the filed and on the goal posts?

It would also be great if we had the option of changing the field markings and refs uniforms in custom games just like the we can change the ball type

Whomp whomp. Disappointing but not unexpected. 2 day turn around isn’t much to work with.

Would be interesting to see what they had worked on though.

This is today’s patch? What console you using please bud? How’s the bugs? Passes made better?

No mention of a patch today yet. Mmm wonder if we will be getting one. Would be nice if someone from BA confirm if we will be getting one today. Because as of now that game is gathering dust.

It’s already out on pc, nothing to get excited about

Would be good to get build numbers…what’s the latest for ps5?

I have the PC version and Ps5 version and if my memory is correct they don’t play 100% the same on latest patches. Maybe that has changed now but a few weeks back it was not the same.

V1.0.2710 for the PS5
Hope this helps

Might get deleted but hopefully not, @MattW is there a chance you can tell us or give JNT the info on what’s happening with game at the moment? Yes it’s great game gets updated but defeats the purpose if we get updates but the game doesn’t feel like it’s moving forward but actually just taking steps backwards,

For example: rucks yes it’s been changed but feels like it was just updated for the sake of it with no thought to it as now you don’t even know if did a turnover or not. Rather doing an updated for the sake off it make sure it works and players will understand what is happening.

Same goes with AI passing games I played I see them only doing to passes and it’s the same 2 passes everytime so why I add it when it does nothing so once again it feels the update was just made for the sake off it.

Might be just better to update the game when feature or gameplay has been properly worked on rather than this Tuesday and Thursday updates we getting that atm makes the game just feel worst each time

Hello Big Aunty !

thank you for the small patches this week, but honestly they are so useless.

Let’s be clear, this is not Early Access anymore. During EA, you could drop a small patch breaking a lot of stuff in the game because you kept saying “wait until full release, it will come together and be great”. Well, the game is fully released, lots of people paid full price, some patches break more stuff than they repair.

Let’s be honest, since the game fully released, we’re just hoping you will repair all the broken stuff, and create and integrate all that is missing. Seeing the few that’s been done in the latest month and the huge amount still missing or not working, I believe it would be fair from Big Ant to give us a roadmap.

Cheers !

Question for you, in the new patch does the AI still always choose scrums at penalty time?
