Nope, sorry, but you are ill informed, In the Rugby challenge series you can, change so many ways the AI reacts, if they pass more, if they run on to the ball more ect, ect . You have over all game play sliders, and then you have custom team sliders that changes the way each team plays in the individual slider section under each team. You can change many, many, many things with sliders. I use them a lot in both RLL3 with a customs slider system that a fan did, and in Rugby Challenge 2/3/4 there are endless amount of sliders, that can even effect the way an individual team plays. So sliders are bad bass.

Agreed, if they could combine Rugby Challenge’s 3 ruck logic with Rugby 25 animations like simple steal and 1, 2, or 3 man ruck pushover. Then it would be a great system. The push over contested ruck, is actually better than Rugby challenge’s multiple rucking player graph turnover. They just have to fix the Y contest (tackle, stand and steal animation) to happen faster like Rugby challenge 3/4/. The animation and idea are there in Rugby 25, they just have not implemented it yet. But have to add up to 5 in the ruck, for it to be fully functionable. To use as a stragtegy

Until today’s update, the game was running fine, there were no more bugs. Now after I made the new update, the old and most annoying problem has returned, the one where the player after being put down with the ball, nothing happens anymore, the player remains stuck with the ball on the ground while the other players from both teams sit and look at him without being able to do anything, time passes and all you have to do is exit the match and replay it in the hope that the same bug will not happen again when the player is put down on the ground. PLEASE RESOLVE THIS BIG AND VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL, I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES IT HAPPENS TO ME. THANK YOU!

Again cheers for the updates game is slowly getting more fluid but still requires a lot of work.

Positives

  • Continued updates
  • Graphics/player likenesses with scans
  • Licensed teams
  • New animations

Areas for improvement

Attack:

The biggest issue with gameplay is still the lack of depth on Attack. The support lines/angles, player movement and player positioning. It’s so unstructured, lacks strategy and currently meaningless positioning. Looks like a free for all out there with no intent or plan.

Support lines have improved a lot but still very inconsistent. Finding that when the first receiver gets the ball from the half back, the support line are too deep which leaves the ball carrier isolated and destroys your opportunity to get any momentum on attack. Sometimes the support runners are running weird angles, either back towards the ruck, or flat footed and not supporting the ball carrier at all. Finding if the first receiver runs, the two outside players next to him don’t keep up with him and it’s only the wing which creates a weird running line where two players get crammed in the middle and are left out of the attack, or if you pass the ball, it goes straight to those players standing deep rather then the wing who is keeping up with the ball carrier which kills any attacking momentum or flow.

Need to implement blocker and sliders, where you have the ball carrier, two players outside him with the outside player cutting on the inside angle to take the short ball off the ball carrier, and the middle player drifting/ sliding behind the player running the short ball line to give the ball carrier the option to pass out the back and feed outsides. That way the ball carrier has two options of support players running different lines/angles. This really needs to be added into the game to add some life to the attack.

Tactics - players aren’t positioning themselves correctly to the tactic you’ve selected. Players are still standing in the same position when I try change tactic. For example 1-3-3-1, forward pods don’t position themselves correctly and the 10/ playmaker Is standing too deep. 10 needs to be positioned behind outside the forward ball carriers outside shoulder so they can receive that tip pass out the back then have the option to either hit a gap or feed the outsides or next forward pod outside 10. That is the whole plan with that move. Suck in defenders with the forward pod then create that space out the back for the playmaker and outsides.

You need to have the ability to control where you have your forward pods running, e.g off 9, 10 or 12. Otherwise the default needs to be a correct backline formation 10,12,13 with your wingers on either side with the 15 joining the line if in the opposition half. 10 is hitting too many rucks, standing blind or out the back out of play. Get them involved in the attack. Make it realistic. Need the 10 steering the ship.

Hope you guys make this a priority as would add so much more depth, realism, strategy and enjoyment to your game!

Rucks- Players a binding too slow which kills any opportunity to get quick ball and attack. Half your backline keeps getting sucked in to the rucks to which again ties in with player positioning. A good solution would be quick bind which is whoever is closest to the ruck or strong bind which will suck in just forwards to the ruck and will increase your chances of securing the ruck and winning the ball.

General Kicking - Need to bring in bombs/up and unders with descent height and distance to allow you to put pressure on the opponent, put pressure on with your chase line and try force an error or win back possession with your chasers competing in the air, giving the team a better position to attack up the field. The Aerial battle is a big part of rugby so would be cool to see it implemented.

Box kicks - Need to allow for a bigger distance when box kicking

Goal Kicking - Enjoying how a lot of players have their own kicking style. Find that whenever I aim away from the post it goes over and when I aim at it I miss. Need to sort this mechanic out as makes no sense.

Pocket kicker - Need to make sure the 10 is not running on to the ball when kicking otherwise it defeats the purpose of putting them in the pocket.

AI decision making - Still putting 30-40 points on AI even at the hardest difficulty. Should implement sliders as some other players have mentioned.

Commentary - Still seeing commentary calls not matching with what’s happening on the field. E.g. Penalty kick for touch, commentator saying kicker has missed touch when the ball has gone out.

Player face scans - Will be awesome to see the South African teams and the European clubs have updated player face scans.

Teams lineups - Noticed a lot of the European club teams aren’t starting their best players. Assuming because of international duty with the six nations but would be good to get this sorted.

Please start addressing a lot of these important gameplay issues asap. Really stopping any major improvement of the game until these areas are addressed

Today’s patch automatically got off to a good start when I was tackled scoring a try and the try actually happened! The game was generally playing pretty well, but then something happened.

I kicked from a ruck positioned in my own 22 and got the ball out around the 10m line near halfway, only for the game to take the lineout back to where I kicked it. The ruck was positioned here.



You can see where the kick got to and where the lineout was.

Hopefully this is just the game mis-reading where the ruck started and is something that can be looked at for patching? There’s not enough reason to kick in the game as it is, without this happening.

Also, with tackling, the dive tackle is completely ineffectual in a chase to the line. I’m not saying that the Superman dives of Rugby '06 or '08 need to come back, but something halfway towards that needs to happen as the dive tackle takes you absolutely nowhere closer to a player when chasing them down.

Another thing, is the bump off ever going to be more usable, I’ve tried it a lot and can’t seem to find any real timing that works for it, I’m sure a lot of people just ignore it as an option now.

Anyhow, thanks for fixing the scoring with tackles situation, it appears good so far!

The game is just absolutely impossible cant even win on easy or regain possession. Dunno what im doing wrong buts so frustrating and not enjoyable lol

Just played a full match and only had possession twice throughout and that was due to opponents box kicks only. Not a single turnover

Dunno how ur lot can smash hardest difficulty with ease u must be proper pros :rofl::rofl::rofl: i celebrate getting in there 22

For online games, show teams being selected to avoid kit clashes.

One thing that’s frustrating is there doesn’t seem to be an end to when a ruck can be won. Sometimes I’ll be waiting for my players to get into position and possession will switch.

It’s probably placebo but with the ball I always add as many players to the ruck as I can.

Love it people here getting excited for the score animation when getting tackled but forgot that it was in early access so nothing new or ground breaking

The game as definitely come a long way in the past month, and I very much appreciate the work that’s been put in.

Now that I am enjoying the gameplay more, I am really missing the cosmetic element of kits getting dirt and grass stains, and field degradation. The game looks too sanitized for rugby. As if everyone is playing on artifical turf. Hopefully there are plans to add these details at some point.

Please fix the AI as a top priority. That means, significantly enhance:

  1. Attacking capabilities and decision making
  2. Tactical kicking
  3. Penalty decision making (as mentioned, taking the scrum is very rare, it is either kicking for touch or when in position and you are looking for easy points, kick for goal)
  4. Substitutions (Tactical & Injury enforced)

Currently AI is too easy and AI vs AI is 0-0 snooze fests. This needs urgent addressing

Regarding positioning and passing - Currently there are too many instances where the scrum half passes to the guy directly behind him, which is 1) pointless and 2) rarely happens. You only see this when the 10 is in the pocket to make a kick, so fix it that this pass does not happen. Scrum half will either pass flat to 10 on attack, or close to forward pods, or deep behind to 10 if setting up a kick.

Support players need to be much flatter on attack, to receive the ball at speed and momentum. This is represented by the Yellow arrows in the image below, where the Red line is their current depth. The red depth is fine at the start of the move, but they then need to move into position to receive the pass, which is the Yellow depth.

Then the support runners also often choose to run towards the ball carrier, closing up the attacking angle, which is not realistic. This is represented by the Red arrows in the image below. Instead, the support runners should be running for the gaps in defense, represented by the Green arrows. The attack is constantly looking for gaps, or where none exist, they try to create a gap by sucking in defenders, whether that be with crash balls or in open play. This is where you then have loop runners or close runners to exploit the outside gap once it has been created by sucking in the defense. Attackers always target the gap, unless they are trying to suck in defenders, in which case they try to hit the defense, to either setup the next quick ruck, or a quick, short offload.

Also, Ai attack should occasionally put in a grubber kick to the wide players, as represented by the Blue arrow, where they see an existing gap behind the wide defense and a grubber would yield better results than passing.

As seen in this image, in this instance, there are significant gaps out wide for the AI to exploit, yet they are unable to make use of the opportunity. Please fix urgently. BIG AI update next Thursday plx

As you can see from the above GIF from a scrum my 10 gets the ball and my backs are still behind the 22m line. It’s crazy that when I try and pass then it goes so far back you don’t make any gains whatsoever and this is so unrealistic and affects game play.

Why are players so bunched at rucks, there’s no organisation at all, if anything let us press the dpad and choose what play or where we want our backs to go?

Player catches from kick off and passes, somehow my 12 runs the length of the field and scores…good try right? Nope gets brought back to the 22m line for a SCRUM lol.
I’m guessing this can be an easy fix for the developers.

Rugby World Cup Final in career mode: Played the final and as the players walked out it said the Top 14 Finale and the Top 14 Trophy? Do you guys not have the rights for the Web Ellis Cup?

Some recommendations for the team

  • Scrum penalties: when you collapse a scrum the AI automatically chooses another scrum and won’t choose anything else like kick to touch, tap and run, kick for goal, even when AI is on their own try line and I collapse a scrum they will choose a scrum.

  • I’d like to see career mode improved,
    Staff support points, how do you get them after every season? I think if you win something you should be given points for the staff to improve

  • Maybe a new player mode where you start off at youth level and then make your way up through clubs, to international level and then if it’s a British or Irish player then play for the B&I Lions?

Overall I’m enjoying the game but I think a fox for the support runners is a must next week as the flow of the game would improve 100% of the time.

Thanks to @Lachie_BA and the team for the continued hard work, you guys are onto a winner here just need to get the important things like real game play fixed and then it will be much more enjoyable for us.

We DESPERATELY need a cursor displaying a user controlled player’s position out of screen ( on defense ). this makes chasing after kicks more precise.

Mini map for player position on attack would be a nice addition too, makes cross kicking a more viable option. Enjoying the challenge of placing cross kicks, feels highly rewarding when successful.

How do you pull them off? I agree on the mini map, I have thought the same when paying. When I try a cross kick, my winger is never really in position. Would be cool to have an option to call a cross kick.
