Rugby League 26 - Megathread

Anyone have a clue what the update was about

Since the update i feel like im finding it harder to get my players onside after the tackle and the AI really like spamming a straight run through the ruck with the dummy half.

So, if my marker is square/onside he automaticslly moves OUT of the way.

If hes offside and If i still have him selected then he gets targeted and initiates a tackle. Or the dummy half makes a break down the middle.

How do you a) defend that and b) speed up your play the balls to catch opposition offside? I sware after every tackle my team waits for the opposition to get onside first (yes i hold sprint but there has to be more than that, i haven’t caugh an ai player offside in a couple dozen games now)

The marker area needs fixing for sure it’s a bit messy at the moment.

No definitely not sarcasm. I’m a bit old skool and just want good old fashioned rugbah laaag.
Also things like shoulder charge, deliberate hip drop tackles, canon ball tackles, spear tackle… the list goes on. These are fundamental elements of the game we love. How many times a week do we see these things played out in the real game race week? I just feel that big ant could incorporate the things as an option in the game.
Like, a sofa Solomona is a heaps damaging runner, but because of his aggression, he lets you down by trying to spear tackle the ball carrier and spends 6 weeks on the sideline. Or Jack whiton can’t help himself and canon balls the halfbacks knees out of place while he’s already held by 4 blokes.

Continuing the discussion from Rugby League 26 - Megathread:

Big Ant good job on the game, enjoying it, but I few things that need fixing gameplay wise.

After the last update, game is playing fairly good, fun game, playing on Pro (have you seen the new spin animation?) not sure how I did it, but pulled it of 2 times in a game. I think it may be double tap in one side direction.

Still, does anyone know if you can pull off a long grubber kick?

How many agree the grubber kick needs more power and distance with skilled players?

Also on the bombs, is there some kind of system to improve your chances of recovery Rugby 25 was going to implement some new up and under recovery system. I liked the meters they used in previous game; the momentum is better in this game, but there should be some kind of timing meter to time the jump for the catch that improves your chances, with players that are skilled at this, have a meter this is easier to time.

This, works on pro difficulty too, actually better being in the line rather than marker anyway as you have more time to react to their attacking movement.

In terms of when in attack, I hold sprint and push up on the right and left sticks, not sure if it actually does anything but I find along with this and forward runs play 1, 2 and sometimes 3, I’m able to open up the field and find the odd bit of space or occasionally get a penalty.

The above is working really well for me most days (do have the odd off game though) playing the game like a proper match of rugby league - Possession, safe play in own half, drives / hitups early in the set plays 1 and 2 minimum, not forcing the play and avoiding errors, trying to open up space plays 3 sometimes but always play 4 (if away from my defensive line), then kick on the 5th and try and keep the opposition as close to their own line as possible, if not managed to score a try in the set.

Im on pro, but if i switch away they find their way through and get 20-30m break or score

Do you hold down in the tackle (with x / r stick on ps5) to try and control the speed of the opposition and allow your defensive line to get set? I do this all of the time but it’s a risk as occasionally gives the opposition a penalty for holding down… But believe this game is all about control and momentum, both in and out of possession, so that’s the only way to do it… i.e. control and slow down the opposition when you’re defending and then control and speed up the play when you’re attacking. Also, I don’t use sprint in defence or move until I see where the opposition are going, I only sprint if they’ve broke the line.

I generally prefer to highlight/play as one of my markers at the oppos play the ball. But I’m getting called for lots of offsides as marker. Dunno why this is happening but I’m going to revert to a player in the line just to stop giving offside penners.

Pro plays very good with latest update, forces you to play more realistic, using hit ups , and kicking on 4th/5th. Amateur you can sidestep and fend your way to victory.

Big Ant please fix the lack of power and distance on the grubber kicks, particularly with players that are skilled at it. Right now they are very weak and its like an 8 year old kicking it.

I’ve had the game nearly a week and I’m enjoying the single player v comp and watching comp v comp games. Pro Team is a bit of a mystery to me but I’m sure I’ll work out what it’s all about eventually.

Please could we have a button or something so we can do a quick play the ball. Could the AI drop over the line when tackled on goal line be more randomised. I’ve managed to turn a player on his back once (dunno how…probably coded) and held up out of all of these goal line animations. Bomb kicks and punt kicks are great…but could the grubbers be booted a bit further?

To try and hold players up over the line, I’m continuously pushing my right stick side to one side- in my head I saw it as trying to roll the ball carrier over onto their back. I seem to get a reasonable number held up. No idea if it’s random or what I’m doing is working,

The drives near the line are annoying though, especially when you see Jayden Campbell push two front rowers backwards and crash over for a try.

Last night’s 1GB patch nerfed the attack and support runners. The next patch needs to put this back in, we had great attack for 1 day only now amateur is back on the grind. Pro and upwards should be a grind amateur and rookie a we wanna play like the Raiders :glass_of_milk:
Other things worth improving. A button to speed up the play the ball in RLL3 we toggled right stick for this
A strip the ball button, and works in all tackles and results in a penalty if there is more than 1 tackler
A held up button
Grubber power hold down for more power, and even a kicking line for aiming and the length of line is the power
Slo Mo for kicking and change of possession.
Slow down the BIG Hit animation
More coaches battles and objectives in pro team
Insight mode
Keep up the good work with updates BA

Does anybody know how promotion works in England, won the finals with Bradford but still in Championship for 2nd season, is it possible to get promotion since the whole IMG grading system came in

Found this myself. Would be good to put those particular changes back.

To be fair the amateur difficulty is marginally too hard at the moment (not as hard for me personally, but others and family I’m showing how to play this).

I’m a very long term player of Big Ant games and even I’m having moments on Amateur in which I’m struggling. This should be how hard Pro is. The Rookie-Amateur gap is huge when teaching people the game. Would be nice if current Amateur went up to Pro and there was something else between Rookie and it. They can always make a new difficulty at the top!

Did the remove selecting difficulty on the username team matches in coach battles? I would always scale it up and down in game depending on how the team was rated. Or I’d put it on rookie for my 6yo. But now the option to select difficulty in game seems to have disappeared since the update

Some will have the option for a difficulty and some will have a set difficulty if its a specific event and type.

There’s no pro team match I can put on rookie for my kids. And I can’t change the difficulty in game like I could previously. Young one won’t be able to play pro teams anymore :frowning: thanks for the updates though. Game is constantly getting better!

Line speed and the ruck are still my two biggest bugbears.

  • The opposition defensive line quite often retreats when an offload happens so it’s an easy free 15m. Realistically, the line should be retreating and then move forward again once the offload happens.
  • My defensive line don’t start retreating once the tackle is being completed. They seem to wait until the player is almost playing the ball.
  • Quicker play the balls to get momentum still seem impossible. I’ve had one instance in the last 3 games where the two markers threw their arms up offside. I tried to run straight through them but my player seemed to magnetize to an onside defender a few metres away.
  • The defensive line should be bunched up when a team is playing the ball inside 5m of the try line, and the passes should be going deeper. In real life you can’t just throw a flat pass 2m out from the line to another player 10m away who’s also standing 2m out. It’ll get intercepted every single time. Usually it’s either a crash play that gets held up by 3 defenders or three passes later the attacking team is back on the 15 so the defence have a chance.
  • I don’t know if I’ve ever received an offside penalty, high tackle, or 6 again for holding down. Clearly it’s randomly programmed because I can’t control those things, so they should be happening far more often.

Hey man, I have really changed the way I play try line defense and hold them up on pro probably 7 out of 10 times, flipping them over on there back. It seems if you use the left shoulder button and the tackle button, not the right analog , I am having better success at a 2nd and 3rd defender helping in the hold up.
