Rugby League 26 - Megathread

Hey iv been playing play now with friends for the past couple weeks . And we have been getting a glitch on the challenges , where the refs calls a challenge and the game is pretty much stuck on that screen , which forces us to quit game and restart . Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but we have the past couple weeks .

I can not find any vids out there of actual game play. I found some guy on youtube recording his screen in game just for the pregame screens haha. Looks like frame rate will be an issue and the graphics are balls. I have no idea what TB are thinking making it a switch title. May look at picking it up after xmas.

The problem with turning down the defense AI is that there is even less chance of multi-player involved in the tackle, and seem to have more defenders standing around instead of engaging the tackle, particularly on the try line, this is very frustrating. The 1 player drive over try , while defenders stand around really is for me the most annoying least satisfying part of the game. On both sides of the ball, I hate when I do it do the AI and I hate when the AI does it to me. Playing around with the sliders it seemed turning up the defense aggressiveness helped some with this, although you have to counter it by makeing sidesteps, fends, and shoulder barges more efffective. So you are making it harder on defense, were the defense gets more involved when 1 on 1 struggle tackle (hit up happens) but you are giving the offense more skill by increasing the offensive set of skills. Seems to help, but need the find the correct balance to all of it , which takes time. I had started another topic, that would be cool if users started posting there slider settings and what they were able to achieve with them. Take note though, some like more arcadey play some like more simulation type play. None is superior just different likes. So if you post your sliders reference to what you are trying to achieve with them. I will post mine once I tune them better, but I have been leaning towards the above mentioned settings.
***********Big Ant please let us know if one of the settings increases the chances of 2 and 3 player defensive involvement in a (one on one drive or hit up) and is there a particular button combination or defensive button press that would help more defenders getting involved, particularly on the try line, to stop those ridiculous 1 on 1 drive over tries.

Just wanted to compliment Big Ant on their update from yesterday. I’m playing a game for the first time now and the backs now race up in support on a break, very refreshing for my second rower to break a tackle and have both his centre and winger coming up in support alongside him, great job!

The only thing in relation to this that I think could be fixed is kick support. What I mean by that is that when you kick into open space the wingers and centres don’t sprint after the ball but instead they jog for it. If I kick into a corner and the fullback isn’t there the winger should be chasing hard to create pressure or even try to score.

Overall very happy with the update though.

Things that need improvement

Multiplayer tackles (this was working better in past patches about) most annoying thing about the game, the 1 on 1 struggle tackle over the line for the try while the defense stands around, this was working good early on. Most unsatisfying try for both the AI and User. Hate this animation, defenders should get involved, not stand around. (is there a defensive button that helps multiplayer defensive tackles?

Please add a slider that will increase multiplayer engagement in the tackle. Or is there a slider that effects this?

As mentioned in previous builds of Rugby league 26 like 20 patches ago, this part of the game played really good? More defenders engaged the offensive player, particularly on the try line to hold up the try. This needs to be added back in please. Or add sliders for it.

I never said the game is perfect but Thursday’s update was a step in the right direction. Backs now feel valuable when they didn’t before, there is now many more options for playmaking because the halves can now effectively use backs also.

The game still definitely has parts that are broken but when they do good with something I’ll praise them. It is more fun now and feels more like footy now with the backs imitating real life.

how are we supposed to do these objectives if there isn’t any of that card on the auction house?

Still need Kane Bradley, Nick Tsougranis obj done :man_facepalming:t2:

Any one figured out what the secret objective is ?

Thanks for the latest update regarding the support players..definitly a step in the right direction..
with the set plays can you please add a slider or switch where we can alter the randomisation of the plays every tackle even to the point where they are not random at all they stay where we leave them? I feel it’s so random to the point where all the players are running around all over the shop. a simple fix of lessening or completely ridding the random changes of the plays would completely change the offence and be a simple but major change

I have only had a chance to play one or two games but it seemed to be a massive improvement for RL26. If they can improve on a couple more things and really dial in this game it will be the best league game ever. Keep it up BA.

I also used my Him card to buy the switch game. The graphics are indeed terrible, very choppy and frame rate is all over the shop. But in the three games I played I had a good deal of fun. I would say to support it if you can just in the hope having a competitor makes everyone push to do better. Out of the box there is sliders to change how the game plays, teams/players comps can be overhauled. The running game is actually good, draw and pass works, support play works, passing from hooker is restrictive as it seems only the first receiver ever gets the pill. kicking is slow mow which I prefer in league games. To be honest the game looks and feels like Rugby challenge, Rugby League 3 wii and Rugby League live 1 had a Frankenstein baby. What has really surprised me is the AI commentary is not bad at all and I think is potentially better than RL26 which actually sounds like AI. There is no set play at all, only tactics like depth and width of the line.

I think the biggest mistake made by the opposition was putting on Switch as it’s too under powered in my opinion. Maybe PS4, PC and Switch with some optimisation would have gone a long way because the biggest issue is the absolutely terrible graphics, anything up close is dreadful, general play is passable but the frame rate drops are a bit of a killer. So final verdict is buy if you have a gift card you don’t really know what to do with, on sale or if you have some doe you don’t need but leave it on the shelf in a cost of living crisis because you might get home and vomit at the presentation between some fun you manage to have.

Thanks for your review on raw, really appreciate it

I am struggling to add downloaded players to become free agents in career mode. I have been trying to add female players from smaller nations and possible players to be signed as converts to add more player depth. Does anyone know how to do this? I know I can add them into career mode by adding them to a team, but I don’t want that.

I’ve been using oddxone (think that’s his YouTube name) sliders and with the updates it plays a lot better! I’ve tweaked it abit so the AI commits more 6 again hold downs, and vice versa I give them away too to balance it out lol. Feels more realistic. The games feeling a lot more like a normal rugby league game (as best as it can)

not sure how much the admins will take on board requests / suggestions. But was hoping for @JNT_BA to just give some yes/no/whys etc for the following:

Will competition mode ever get a better interface for the stats? This way I’d probably play this mode more as I do enjoy using every team in the NRL.

Will there be a possibility to control the non selected teams in career? I’m really keen to be able to play some games in season with the opposition teams otherwise I’m stuck just going full noise with one club for like 27 rounds lol

Are there any plans to improve Career mode? Better options on signing players, potentially even signing players already under contract etc? Have updated stats in game (example Metcalf’s current points for the season as he’s attempting a conversion etc, or AJ about to break the Ken Irvine record etc..)

thanks!

Mods, is it ok to post Rugby League Raw footage here?.

The game is awesome.

It would make for a good Rugby Union game as well haha!.

As an Ex-Mod… I’ll allow it.

Don’t think they really care… just don’t say ####, ####, ######, ###### or ######. Although you Radman, have earned the right to use one of those words.

Go for it… they’ll delete if they don’t like it… if they see it.

I suggest reading the rules. Probably the one that says specified games only. I left the ā€œreviewā€ cause eh. Videos, no

I see everything.

Thanks for letting me know.

With respect I will leave the chat for that game elsewhere.

My bad.. thought you were talking about Raw footage for this game… didn’t know about a game on the Switch… thanks for the heads up. :+1:

RL26 has been a disappointment from start to finish. I genuinely hoped Big Ant could deliver, especially given what they’ve achieved in the past (RLL2 IMO still the most realistic RL Video Game), but this game has struggled to compete from the opening kickoff. I’ve already outlined the major flaws in the player attribute/skill system (which has still yet to be addressed, sadly not looking likely), yet that is only one part of a much bigger issue it seems. I’m honestly at a loss for words. While I don’t know how the game is viewed internally at Big Ant, public perception has clearly been poor. That said, let’s start 2026 with a positive mindset! Is there anything we, as the Rugby League community, can do to help improve and reshape the Rugby League gaming ecosystem?

I know the nrl season is over for now, and cricket 16 is out, but it gives them no excuse to keep the game the state it is in. Broken logo creator, busted ball strip’s and dummy half scoot cheese, broken captain’s challenges and bugs galore. The fact that there is a setting in making your own difficulty ā€œ% of correct callsā€ is disgusting. The game was in a better state 3 mths ago than what it is now and it makes me sad. Worst of all, you cant even play woth custom players/teams with an offlone guest account, as the game cant ā€œverify your ageā€. Big ant please just show us you care.

I still have hope… i mean we have a new game… hopefully Big Ants spirit lives on and we will see a remarkable improvement if they get a second shot…

BUT Answers would be good…

THIS Rugby League Raw reignites my questions…

Did Big Ant start over with a new crew and no assets from the previous franchise… did Tru Blu control assets and is that where Raw was born from?

Because where i see progession,i also see regression.

And my favourite lad Jimmy is no longer with Big Ant (noticed his absence from day one), who else is missing from the old crew? Mike / HBK… are they still there?

Now i could probably answer this questions by looking at the credits… but i got obsessed and then disenfranchised by the creation side of things. Which was great until it wasn’t.

Anyway, if it’s a new blend of staff… teething problems are to be expected and tolerated to a point… if we have Le Tru Blu version 2.. that’s of greater concern.

And maybe they’re just spreading themselves a bit thin…

Big part of getting things right is COMMUNITY… Which i think this game is lacking. And I’m biased… but the OLD Forums were better.
