AFL 23 - Megathread

I have given the information I can on what is being worked on previously. I personally do not make those announcements.

This makes no sense considering we can’t use custom teams in Management mode.
Why not just go with a similar system to Evo 2 ?
I’ll never understand why AFL video game developers don’t take inspiration from other studios, rather than tear them down and take 1 step forward, 2 steps back

While I did play the Evos, team modification was not something I dabbled with so I won’t speak on knowledge I don’t have. But I’m up for the education.

Everyone takes inspiration from lots of games when making new ones.

So because you can’t use custom teams in management mode we should change it for everyone and everything else? Either way, modifications wouldn’t matter in that mode anyway as you mentioned.

But let’s get back to your original point. Let’s use Buddy as an example. Say I want to use Buddy in my Hawthorn team recreating that from when he was there cause that’s where I liked him, but I want him to use the same art as the current one

Then say I play with a family member locally and they’re young and are pretty new to AFL and they are a Swans fan and they want to play with this year’s team or maybe last year’s team. Who should get Buddy? Why take it away from either of us when we can’t both use someone we may like?

While I see your viewpoint on it and can understand where it comes from, including the number. When people design these things they have to take lots of things into consideration. Going back if you want to remove them from the team when you play to not have conflicts for how you want to play, you can do that. If someone wants to have a team of all-stars and still have them in their normal team, they can do that as well, the options are there to be used by each person on how they want to have their teams.

Ok but when can we change the ai tactics so they don’t all play the same brand of footy.

Hi @JNT_BA you raise some good points, although not sure where you were going with the Buddy for everyone conversation, as right now in the game I can edit buddy to be a ruckman without any consideration of others…so putting buddy back in the Hawks or to North Melbourne shouldn’t really factor in as I own my copy of the game and would be great to shape it to my play style.

However, given you guys are probably snowed under with your other new titles, it still would be great to throw a bone to us AFL23 community members who bought the game and lived through the horror days.

How about this for next patch - keeping in mind maybe simple gameplay features might be enough to keep us going and alive especially through the dead period of the off-season and that there are no new features for months now with AFL23.

  • Have injuries occur in the normal gameplau especially in management mode, if I sim the game I get injuries however if I play every match for the whole season I get no injuries so there is no sense of urgency to improve my list as who needs depth when all my star players are fit and healthy every week?

  • Ability to delist players at end of season - pretty simple one

  • Ability to change teams as the user at end of season, if I won the grand final with North (one day) then might be good to go to another team and rebuild them to keep the dynasty going

  • Ability to edit team list in management mode, as considering it will take a while for the list updates to come though I would love to see Grundy finally get his chance at the ruck mantle in Sydney without having to clone the poor guy.

  • Ability to change player position type during the season, because maybe I want to switch Jy Simpkin to an outside mid or forward because I am going to trade the number 1 pick for Clarry and he will be my new center bounce powerhouse.

  • Ability to do multi team trades up to 4 teams - as they do this in real life and I might want to broker a deal where I can get Jack Macrae get out of the Bulldogs and to West Coast while getting some pick swaps for North.

  • A help guide or more options for player improvement, as I got George Wardlaw to dominate the center clearances for North, smashed his way to a rising star and his player rating was still dismal. Give the guy some credit for the hard work he put in!

Hopefully these improvements are doable as it would go a long way to keep us engaged until the next big list updates come out.

I’d like to tag onto the list management point.

  • Have simulated stats for reserve players in the VFL that I can see.
I can then decide who deserves a chance in the firsts.

Any word whatsoever regarding expecting an update after trades/ draft?

I would assume that the list changes would occur within an update before next season…thats the way Big Ant have always done it.

@JNT_BA Not sure if you aware but Multiple WAFLW teams are not avalible to filter when trying to bring up rosters to update rosters in Club Manager. E.g. Trying to give Carlton Chloe Wrigley from Peel Thunder is NOT able. As Peel Thunder when as editing as Carlton is not avaliable. Yet she in the game if I go and select edit as Peel Thunder. As said at the moment it seems only Claremont and East Fremantle are only teams you can view from the WAFLW when trying to slect players to join other clubs via Academy and Club Manager. A fix to this would be helpful as trying to update the AFLW teams custom wise with out changing the base teams.

Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face::sunglasses:

@JNT_BA have there been any more patches/improvements since this one a couple of months ago??

something i think would be pretty awesome would be the ability to play on the same team whilst playing online, especially if youve got a friend on a different console etc.

I’ve updated the PAFC player list which I’ll upload the 2k24 team very soon. I’ve heard Port will be getting a new home guernsey design for 2024

Crazy to think the gameplay still has so many issues and we’re not getting an update until the 2024 lists are finalised.
No Pro Team, no training mode, Management mode is still broken and this game is most certainly not ā€˜the deepest AFL game’ to date.
Last BigAnt game I’ll ever purchase

Either this is a long term afl game or the chances of them making another afl game are incredibly low.
